In the previously seen group shot, Adam (Johnny Young) looks like he's wearing something akin to S.P.D., and I'm not the first to notice this! The origins of Robo-Rita are also curious. Created off-screen by Zedd? An old duplicate made by the Machine Empire? Gasket and Archerina? Scrozzle using Ryjack's Reanimizer which was last seen being used to create Goldar Maximus? The dark background as the Megazord wields the Power Sword also makes me wonder. Are they going to supplement the special with Sentai footage, perhaps using Ultimate Dai-Satan from the Strongest Battle? I'm probably reaching, but they did adapt Satan Minosaur as Lothorn, Lokar's nephew. I also find it odd if we have Zedd back and he DOESN'T interact with a robotic duplicate of his wife! Also, isn't Rita supposed to be the Mystic Mother (or generally accepted as such thanks to Udonna's "known as Rita in the dark days" line)? Possible reference to Thrax? Appearance by the Sentinel Knight, who killed Thrax? Cameo by the Dino Fury Rangers? By the Morphin' Masters? Lot of variables left in play. |
They got Barbara Goodson and Richard Steven Horvitz back!
I'm really not sure how I feel about them killing Trini off like that (and then just up and having her new daughter take over as the Yellow Ranger). So was there just some location benefit to summoning Rocky and Kat because they needed a Red and Pink? Because thematically Jason and Kimberly would've made more sense even if I get they couldn't get the actors back. I wonder who the Green Ranger is (unless that's actually Tommy and that's the entire original lineup together because of the time travel). Holy crud, the Zords! The Megazord! I wasn't sure we'd get that at all! Are those suits or CG though? Quote:

What I do mind is how they killed her off. Having her die at the hands of a new, more powerful enemy none of us ever heard of prior to her appearance (Robo Rita IS a new character, she's not the same person in a new body), by being blasted off a cliff. |
(Let me preface this with everyone is entitled to their own opinions and has the right to express them. Having said that, in coming rant.)
Most of the comments I've seen throughout the web are people complaining about Trini dying or how she dies. Some people are complaining that it should have been done off screen, but I can guarantee those same people would complain about her dying off screen and/or it not being done "properly". Let me say this. THERE IS NO PROPER WAY OF DOING THIS. People are going to bitch and gripe regardless of how it was done. I'm just glad that we have some form of closure to Trini and her story. Personally, I would have killed her off too. Thuy has been gone for over 20 years. Simply saying that Trini retired and never gets active again is fine, but it still eludes to the possibility that we could still see her in some capacity, be it cameo or something. This is a universe where the world is constantly under some kind of threat. So her never making an appearance again of any kind is absurd, she could be approached for guidance/advice. Killing her off (regardless of the method) ends her story and puts an end to the hope of seeing her again. As much as it hurts me, because I loved Thuy and Trini, I'm glad they killed her off. And part of me is glad that it was Rita in some form or fashion. Because Robo Rita is Rita. (At least in my opinion she's Rita's evil essence housed in a new body. But that's a theory for another time.) |
Respectfully, I have to disagree with the above post. If we were being generous, I'd be fine with her dying in some great last stand, maybe if she had shielded Billy from Robo Rita's blast. That'd be a great way to honour the character's legacy, while still telling the same basic story.
However, there's just one snafu. The Green Ranger is present. Even though JDF, prior to his death, outright told Hasbro that he did not want to be involved with the Reunion Special. |

I'm not saying it's morally right or wrong, all I'm pointing out is that there's a certain expectation when it comes to anything MMPR related, like it or not. |

First, S.P.D. and Adam. Second, Robo-Rita and time travel. Third, J.J. is clearly meant to be young in "Dimensions in Danger". Fourth, J.J. becomes S.P.D. "B-Squad" Green with the Dragon Shield in "Soul of the Dragon". Could Robo-Rita's time travel agenda be hijacked and used to bring an older J.J. from the future into the present, thanks to Adam, which allows him to morph into Mighty Morphin' Green!? It's just one possibility. |
People are JUST NOW noticing Adam's SPA uniform? This ain't news and it was seen MONTHS ago

In fairness, I've heard there are some leaks regarding the Special's script that were floating about....and were debunked anyway.
Leaks that I've never even heard of, let alone read. |
