I'll try reinstalling MPC tonight, I don't think i had to download any separate codecs before.

If you download CCCP, everything you need will be in there including the MPC player itself :)

Yeah, there was a time when I decided to watch an episode in MPC format but I discovered that it doesn't work, so I got the latest Codec from CCCP and the problem was solved right away. Sometimes it is just that simple.

just to round off my Shinkenger kick, watched Goseiger vs. Shinkenger movie recently... Not a bad film, obviously more to do with Goseiger but nice to have some continuation. Now I'm kinda on the fence on if I should watch Goseiger or not... Anyone recommend it?

Alot of people will tell you not to watch Goseiger. I'm not one of them. I really loved that show. More so than Shinkenger actually, I always found it to be kind of flat personally. If nothing else Goseiger does interesting things by using 3 sets of villains, a ranger that never really was with Gosei Green who has some brief but awesome cameos, and then Gosei Knight being a complete badass. Those alone are reason enough for me to reccomend it to you.

While I can't honestly say I loved Goseiger I have to agree with you on all these points. If anything for me it was the acting that let it down, the story structure was completely solid and Buredoran/Brajira is an incredible villain. All the aesthetic choices are what make me really want to see it as a Power Rangers series, perhaps more so than Gokaiger.

The rangers themselves come off excellently in their vs. movies though, I have to say.

They always seem to come off very strong for their crossovers. They kicked serious ass in the Shinkenger crossover. And your right Buredoran/Brajira was fantastic as a villain. Loved seeing him return in 199 Heroes.

While I hate Goseiger with a passion, and do like to flame people for liking it just to be a dick, give it a try and see if it works for you. If you enjoy it, cool. If you don't, cool, but at least you tried it for yourself.

After episode 6, I've called it quits on Go-Busters. I just lost interest in it.

At least Akibaranger has me busy for this year.

Why? Sure, Gobusters is starting to get a little too repetitive, but not enough to just stop watching it.

As for AkibaRanger, how do we know it will not get bad? I mean, the first half of episode 1 was pretty bad, while the second half was great. How do we know the show is not going to be bad like the first half?

I never thought of Go-Busters being repetitive; it's just being pretty bland at the moment. Yoko is already my least favorite female Super Sentai character due to Arisa Komiya's bad acting. Maybe if someone else played Yoko, the character would've been better than what we have now.

Miho-chan is really kawaii, but she's forever stuck behind her desk as a background character.

I really expected Akibaranger to be bad, but Toei rolled with the concept and it actually worked. You can't fault them for anything in this show, as it was meant to be cheap.

im finally making my way through dekaranger. I dont see why so many people call it one of the best Sentais, its pretty meh imo

once I finish that im gonna make my way through magiranger and finish up Liveman

It was very meh for me, as far as I got. Episode 13 (I think) was really bad, I think it was the next episode was pretty good, but then the very ending made me mad, and I quit another episode or two after that, because I just didn't care about any of the characters. I do kinda like the mecha, but not a ton (the SRC figure is pretty great though).
I started Shinkenger and I liked it much better, so I dumped Dekaranger for the foreseeable future.

That's my problem to. I found it to be average. It had a cool concept, but they did nothing with it. Every episode was almost the same as the previous. I mean, Sentai has a formula, but with this show, it never felt like anything was happening.

I thought the best episode in the series was the DekaMaster apperance episode, and then episodes 3 and 4. The introduction of SWAT mode is pretty cool though, but yeah, the rest after that are bland. Plus, Ban is super annoying and started the whole screaming red phase.

MagiRanger is better than Deka, but the ranger cast is retarded. This is one show that the villians are what make the show good.

Eh..each to their own I guess. I felt exactly the same way about Dairanger.

I loved Dekaranger because it didn't have some sort of evil empire looking to take over the world or whatever. Each monster was in it for themselves, and then Agent Abrella stayed in the shadows for as long as he could gathering intel before taking the team on. For me it was a far more enjoyable approach than the usual Sentai formula, even if it was made up of mostly standalone episodes (which I don't think is a bad thing). The cast were great and so were the mecha, which is why its one of my favourite Sentai series.

Magiranger is better though, everything about that show was just brilliant.

I like the idea of an overarching enemy for the entire show, that's something that interests me about Gokaiger, but the execution that instance is stupid.

Why do they only send one commander each week? Other than so the GOkaigers can kick their ass? There's NO REASON why the entire armada, that's just sitting out in space, doesn't beam everyone down and kill everybody. They have overwhelming numbers, and no reason why they couldn't actually defeat the Gokiagers, other than being pants-on-head retarded (to quote Yahtzee).

On the other hand, I'm really enjoying GoBusters, precisely for the reason that they have set up and explained that are limitations in how big a force can be sent to attack at once. Enter even suggests in the third episode that they wait a bit, until they have sufficient energy to send 5 or 6 of the giant robots because the GoBusters couldn't stand up to that many, but his crazy boss doesn't have the patience for that yet (I also love that Messiah is the Red Skull).

It seems like Shinkenger is trying to tell me there's some reason why only one major demon can attack at once, but I haven't really understood it yet.

Well, at least in Gokaiger, at the early parts, a lot of that is because of Walz Gil. Him being so naive and egotistical, it makes sense that he would send down one Commander at a time to conquer the Earth.

I'm enjoying Go-Busters and Akibaranger. Go-Busters does seem like it's in a phase where it's not really interesting, but a lot of Sentai start out this way. Akibaranger was just hilarious right off the bat. I have all of Dairanger, so I need to get around to that. I actually rewatched some of the henshins and PR morphs. Makes me want to re-watch Gekiranger and Go-Onger, my 2 favorites(other than Gokaiger)

I've come to like all of the Sentai. Even if I didn't like it, or I started to lose interest, I kept going because things have a tendency to grow on me. Lo and behold, after the last episode, I really end up enjoying it. Dekranger and Goseiger were both like this. And after completion, I came to appreciate the episodes I didn't like so much even more. But that's just me.

Well, I enjoyed Dekaranger, because it is basically a detective series with aliens as criminals, and it's not a particularly deep series just one with alot of humor and action. Besides, it also has one of the hottest babe around, Jasmine/Deka Yellow (Ayumi Kinoshita). Seriously, she was one of the biggest reasons why I watched the series and she could make any bored scenes interesting with her presence. :)

I also like Magiranger as well, due to its family dynamic and its zord MagiKing has got to be one of the best in Super Sentai I've ever seen.

Jasmine is the main reason I started that series, but as attractive as she is, she hasn't been enough to keep me interested.
Shinken Pink, is also super hot, but at least her show is interesting.

I like both Dekaranger and Shinkenger, although I like the latter series more due to storyline and characters. Also, Shinkenger tends to be more serious in writing and style and I'm usually gravitate toward series like that, but I still managed to enjoy both Dekaranger and Magiranger anyway.

I hope I'll have the free time to watch Gaoranger one of those days.

Honestly, your reasons for liking Deka are my reasons for hating it. I do not like the lack of an evil empire. They could have had a Mafia family in there somewhere, they could have had them going to different planets throughout the series to take on aliens, etc.

We need a series where the rangers are bounty hunters.

I love the mecha designs in Deka but the characters are just boring as hell imho. none of them are the slightest bit interesting except for Tetsu

I did like Dairanger, I just think its massively overrated.

Power Rangers SPD brought a main villain into the Dekaranger format and it killed it for me. Granted Grumm isn't the best example and could have been a million times better but I still preferred the way it was done in Deka. I liked that Abrella was simply an arms dealer who had a group of police constantly getting in his way. After watching so many shows where the team have known exactly who they were fighting and what their goals were from the get-go, it was refreshing to see something where each episode had bad guys with often very different goals.

But yes a bounty hunter series is definitely needed. I was disappointed when all the Western-themed rumours for the 36th series turned out to be false because I was hoping for space cowboys :(

I thought Timeranger already tried the mafia angle so I like how Dekaranger did it, with an arms dealer as the big baddie and monsters who are more like intergalactic criminals and not just fodders with no purpose except to kill the rangers or harass innocent civilians.

Honestly, I think my love for DaiRanger comes frong it being the second Sentai I ever watched and fell in love with everything about it.

Out of curiosity, what was the first Sentai you saw then?

GaoRanger. I bought the Hong Kong DVDs of the series back in Jan 2003 and loved the show. Then I discovered OtakuHellFansubs who had "ripped from VHS tapes" DVD-R raws available of a ton of series and bought both ZyuRanger and DaiRanger from him. When I got them, the first series I watched was Dai since MMPR Season 2 featured my favorite Megazords out of every PR series that was out at that time. I ended up going though the first 24 episodes in one sitting (oh, 17-20 were subbed).

After Zyu and Dai I picked up the HK DVDs to Hurricanger and AbaRanger, but then shortly after is where I just started buying the official Region 2 DVDs and I got into Kamen Rider through Ryuki.

Few minutes ago I watched last episode of Timeranger. This is VERY great series - with big emotions, dramatism. I wanna watch next Sentai in Timeranger's type.

TimeRanger is quite good, but sometimes, the cast was a little too serious, especially Pink. It had great battles though, cool effects, but the music could have been better. I think it might be the music though that makes the cast feel less energetic though. Nevertheless, it is a graet series, especially towards the end, and Gien is awesome.

I cannot say there is something like it in terms of execution since it is the only series to use a time travel theme.

However, for Sentai from the 2000s, AbaRanger, GekiRanger, and Gokaiger are by far the best.

Timeranger is another one of those series I really want to watch yet only a handful of episodes have been subbed :(

Maybe one day I'll just bite the bullet and start watching stuff raw.

After some reading around, they were done by someone/a group called RRR. But they also fall into the category of "wildly inaccurate guess subs based off of episode synopses".

Okay, I got kind of busy for awhile so my toku viewing time suffered for much of spring, but I finally finished Dairanger. It was really, really, really good. That final story arc was amazing and had so many epic moments (as did some of the lead-in episodes that wrapped up the various side characters - Jin's finale, guys. Jin's finale). This makes Dairanger only the second Sentai series I've sat through all the way (Gokaiger being the first). I want more now, but I'm not sure where to go next. What (preferably fully subbed) show would you guys recommend next? I'm thinking either Gekiranger, Liveman, or maybe Dekaranger. Any one of these better than the others? Anything else I may want to try?

Of those 3 you mentioned I'd take on Liveman next. That's a really soilid series. I know plenty of people who love Gekiranger and Dekaranger but neither of them is really my flavor. I could recommend Boukenger pretty highly as it's one of my favorite series. And floating around out there are some pretty bland subs of Jetman. It's a great show it's just that the translations weren't all that great. I think it was by CS International? Maybe? Like I said good show, just with subs that almost certainly are based on episode sumaries instead of actual translations :lol

All three you have listed there are solid choices, you can't really go wrong with any of them.
