My favorite Toku moment was the PR Samurai/RPM crossover. I'm a sucker for crossovers, including Rangers from different shows teaming up!
|
Favourite Toku moment:
Final Hissatsu 8. Momotaros. Dude don't know how to count. |
I would defiantly have to say my favorite moment was the Final Battle between Basco and GokaiRed in Gokaiger. It's defiantly one of the best Final Rival Fights I have seen in a while in the world of Sentai mostly because how brutal it is and because it does something that I feel every good fight scene should do, its tells a story in just the fight alone, I truly think that if you showed someone that fight scene out of context they would really get it regardless of not knowing who the characters are.
|
I can't believe I overlooked this! Congratz to Tokunation on the anniversary, & thanks for running this!
I guess my top toku moment in 2012 is the release of my favorite S.H. Monsterarts figure Space Godzilla. Arguably the best figure in the line! Second, would be the opening sequence of the Ultraman Saga movie. Earthtron attacks a desolate Tokyo with only a few remaining fighters to stop. Ultraman Dyna arrives, and easily dispatches Earthtron. The best part of this sequence was the amazing amount of miniatures used. Very retro! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps9f1ae62c.jpg |
my Fave Toku Moment leaarning that Saban pulled a Dairanger on us and we are getting know gokiager suits. also the Gaven Cross over with Go-busters.
|
Its probably a cliche response by now, but the entire first episode of Akibaranger was by far my favorite Toku moment of the year. I haven't laughed harder at anything all year.
That episode alone made me pre-order all 3 Akibaranger figuarts figs (and glad I did at that). |
The return of Gavan. That's my favorite moment. Very nostalgic.
|
Many people have probably had the same thought as me this year, but my favorite moment was Akibaranger. I thought it was amazing, going from not knowing what the hell that show was going to be about, to the just side busting funny episodes. From that very first episode I was hooked, and easily my favorite show of the past year.

When I was first starting to make the transition into the super sentai and larger tokusatsu scene for realsies, the series that most caught my eye was DaiRanger, and I ended up getting a bootlegged copy of the whole series on DVD, raw.
I watched the entire thing. DaiRanger remains my favorite sentai for a great many reasons, not the least of which was how there were many side story arcs tied in with the main one. My favorite moment comes from one of these side arcs, namely the introduction of one Matoba Jin. After Jin has just completed another job, this one free of charge because of his personal vendetta against the high and mighty "masters" of martial arts schools, an angered Ryou accosts him and challenges the hitman to a battle. Jin accepts, and proceeds to casually trounce the young man, and Ryou's attempts to fight back only amuse him. However, it's clear that Jin has no intent of actually killing Ryou, he's merely toying with him, giving the boy a harsh lesson in humility. But then, just as Jin is getting ready to finish the fight and leave his foe a battered but wiser man, Ryou snaps and attacks Jin from behind with the Chi powers he gained when he became RyuuRanger. BIG mistake. Because now Jin is angry. This young whelp had retaliated with a power he had been given, not one he had earned. He saw Ryou's weakness, relying on his powers as a crutch, and it made his blood boil. What had been a fair contest between two men had been besmirched. In Jin's eyes, it was as bad as drawing a gun. Now the enfuriated assassin did not hold back, pummeling Ryou mercilessly with superhuman power of his own, power that he had gained through years of discipline, not a costume and a wrist-mounted gadget. After a ferocious beating, Jin was satisfied that his opponent had been sufficiently humiliated, and departed, leaving Ryou bleeding beside a tree. As he struggled to maintain consciousness, Ryou had to deal with the fact that despite all the powers his Dai heritage had brought him, and all the challenges he had faced thus far, he had been utterly beaten by an ordinary man with a prosthetic arm. This humbling defeat is what sets Ryou off on his journey from an amateur karateka with superpowers into a true martial artist, a path that would take him through the depths of darkness and the light of true understanding, a light so bright that it could redeem even Jin's troubled soul. And that, for those folks who've been kind (and dedicated) enough to read this far, is my favorite tokusatsu moment. |
Best moment of Tokusatsu in 2012: The first appearance of Kamen Rider Wizard Flame Dragon Style. One of the most awesome things that I have ever seen in my life.
|
I would have to say the whole season of Gokaiger was a moment for me..... One of the episodes that really stood out for me was Episode 41. It made you really feel for Ahim, the hatred she had for Zatsurigu, the quest for revenge, becoming a pirate, and other things. The second half of the fight (not the zord fight) was one of the best fight scenes I've seen. The real icing on the cake, for me, was seeing both male and female Shinken Reds. I love Shinkenger, so seeing those two fight together was something we didn't see during Shinkenger's run.

For this year, I'd have to go with Wizard's giant dragon foot rider kick.
Of all time? I'd have to go with another Kamen Rider moment. Kabuto was my very first rider series (excluding Masked Rider.) So either Tsurugi being revealed as a worm, or Kagami getting the Gatack Zector. It's a tough call. |
To me, my favourite moment was from the GoKaiger Vs Gavan movie, that scene when Marvelous realises who Gavan is. Then we got everything going in slow motion (including the others morphing behind him) as Marvelous was oblivious to the world around him and just couldn't stop watching Gavan fight.
It's the one scene from that brilliant movie that still sticks in my mind. |
Ahh I gotta say Gokaiger opening scene of episode 1!! Gokaiger is the first super sentai series I have watched since switching from PR. That opening fight scene really threw me back into the oldschool feel of choreography and action and its really what made me fall in love with SS and PR all over again <3
|
I really like the W episode where Philip says goodbye to Shotaro... It was a tear jerker of an episode.
|
on the same day my daughter was born, they released info on the SH Figuarts Zyurangers/MMPR items
|
My favorite moment from the year has to be when Kamen Rider Wizard premiered. This is my first Kamen Rider series that I'm watching as the episodes air, and it's exciting to finally see what this franchise is all about. I'm hoping to get started working my way through W, OOO, and Fourze as well.
|
It's a hard choice between that W ending, The Dr. Maki storyarc in OOOs, or watching all of Kabuto on my phone during work hours :lol
|
when we found out Megaforce would be Goseiger
|
There's so many moments to pick from it's hard to choose...
The first thing that comes to mind though is the opening to Gokaiger with the legend war. When I saw all those rangers formed up in that big triangle... my inner five-year-old exploded in glee. ^_^ For all time favorites... hmm... I think the endings to OOO's, W, and Blade are pretty nice. But I also though the female Shinken Red was a nice change. |
My favorite Toku moment this year was the Graduation ceremony of the Kamen Rider club. I was really sad seeing these character I loved through the entire year go away for the last time and making epic speeches about how they have all grown to be better people then when they started out thanks to this school. Also doesn't help that Gentaro was really kicking Sagittario ass in one of the best unmorphed fight scenes of the year
|
Sentai- All of Gokaiger. I love the idea of using the past heroes keys.
Power Rangers- The Megaforce zords are neat. Got most of them already and formed the giant pile of heads! |
It's hard to pick a favorite moment, so many good memories this year. The tail end of Gokaiger, Fourze reaching is climax and having a great finale, Go-Busters superb giant battles, the LWW of Jetman, and me bringing to close my days of marathoning Kamen Rider series at college by finally watching their movies. Of all that has happened in 2012, I have to say my high points came in May and October, because that is when Figuarts Zolda and Magnugiga joined my collection respectively. Ever since I marathoned Ryuki in my closing days of college in Fall of 09, I wanted these two in my collection so bad, and now I have them. Many thanks to Sentai Tamashii for making the latter happen because of him allowing to pay as you go instead of needing all of the money upfront.

Well, all in all it was a pretty big year for me. I have a friend whose went on, and on about Kamen Rider for as long as I can remember. I assumed it would just be one of those silly Japanese programs that was super-hokey and I wouldn't care for.
Well, I finally broke down and watched W. And I really liked it. So, then I watched Kabuto. Next thing I know, I had marathoned through all of OOO in a week, and just recently finished Den-O. As it stands, my current watchlist consists of Amazon, Stronger, Kuuga, Kiva, and Decade, along with plans for watching Fourze in the near future. $207 later, I've burned my wallet on Figurarts. But the thing that sticks out this year for me has to be Wizard's first episode. Of all the series i've watched, it's one of the two (the other being OOO) that's had me hooked and interested from the very start, and hasn't suffered from the slump of first few episodes that have to set up the main plot. The only thing that could have made this year better for me, is if we had news of a Figurarts for the Black Satan Soldiers. |
Long time lurker love the site and the amount if info on it...Favorite moments thus far was the announcement of Megaforce and the entire Gokaiger series.

For me the best toku moments of the year was from akibaranger. Seeing the Akagi transform and fight in reality for the first time was so brilliant. I think it’s the most dramatic sentai scene I’ve seen and I think that largely thanks to the fact the show is largely a parody it’s shocking to see such seriousness from the show you almost can't help but be swept up by it.
outside of that though this has been a kind of meh year for toku for me, I still need to finish gokaiger and fourze but near the end of this year I’ve been watching Godzilla films, so far I’ve only seen 1954, Godzilla returns and vs. biolante since I'm excited for the monsterarts coming now. I'm planning on marathoning the rest of the heisei films over the New Year night with some friends. |
I usually lurk around HJU but hello Tokunation!
So I gotta agree with the above poster on that one http://imageshack.us/a/img259/1138/akibaranger.jpg It was a really great scene because it's pretty much the embodiment of not only Sentai, but Tokusatsu in general. In a way it's sort of a trope within itself since the way it works is, if you have the good will, the universe (or morphing grid) will reward you. It's a comedy but not without its badass moments; who didn't cheer when this fanboy achieved our ultimate dream? I do have another moment though, it's a small one but it's a reminder: http://imageshack.us/a/img248/3365/fourze.jpg Fourze wasn't my favourite season but I had fun with it and I always love moments like this. It's not a new idea but it's refreshing to see it back; it's an idea that I feel was lost through the Heisei era. The name and association with the title "Kamen Rider" being a hero of justice came back strong with W and it's just really nice to see it being established again. It was also great that Tomoko called out the secondary rider very early in his debut haha. |
For me, it was catching all of Akibaranger. It was just so refreshing and hilarious. Specifically I really enjoyed the episode where Yumeria's mother came to visit. A very heartwarming episode with some great over-the-top sexual comedy.
|
The end of Gokaiger with them using the combined power of the other Super Sentai teams. Epic.
|
My favourite moment is from Shinkenger... A great series all round, but I absolutely loved ShinkenRed's final battle with Juuzou. It had been building up since his first appearance, and didn't disappoint, especially when Uramasa betrayed Juuzou right at the moment he had been waiting all his life for.

Gekiranger.
Looking back on it, the entire series was my favorite moment (And because it's no longer limited to moments in 2012, I can now gush more :p). Very rarely does a series enthrall me so well that I can't stop marathoning it. The character of Jan began as the stereotypical jungle boy in modern day, but he grows, and while his "Nikiniki wazawaza" doesn't quite disappear, his demeanor and attitude grow for the better, but he also never loses that million dollar smile. Ran and Retsu didn't have much to do, both being the straight man to the rest of the cast, but they both had enough to them that made them memorable characters (Ran's being the leader, Retsu just being one of the best characters to watch whenever he gets focus), Gou is the definition of badass. And Ken. Yeah, he was there too. I could gush on and on about Rio and Mele, so I'll try to be brief. Rio and Mele are the kinds of villains I want to see more of. The villains who are actual characters in and of themselves. They have story arcs, they have emotions beyond "GRRAR MY MONSTER DIED LET ME SCREAM FOR THE NEXT 5 MINUTES!", they were absolutely perfect (Though Mele's fangirling over Rio did get a little old 40 episodes in), and I long to see Sentai create villains and characters like them again. The suits did take some time for them to grow on me, but after they did, I loved them. Slim and sleek to invoke fluidity, exactly what a martial arts series should do. GekiTouja wasn't the best mecha, but I grew to enjoy the commentated fights, too. Gekiranger managed to do everything right, in my eyes. Placing emphasis on story, while keeping the fights stylish and enjoyable to watch, making the villains actual characters, and just being a great experience. Too many Sentai recommendations are based almost entirely on "The suits and mecha look cool." And it too Gekiranger to show me that not all Sentai are Style over Substance. |
For me the greatest moment of the year was sitting down and watching the Super Hero Taisen sub with my nephews (5 and 7). They've been curious about Kamen Rider and look forward to watching episodes of OOOs and Fourze with me when I visit. They already love Power Rangers Samurai, so it's a treat for them to see the Gokai Rangers and Go-Busters-who are brand new in their eyes. On top of that, subs are a great reading exercise :thumb:

It's random for me in a way. I've always been interested in the stuff, and I have bought various items from the stores over the years just because of how cool I thought it looked. Recently I was captivated by the Samurai line, and I had gotten in on the tail end of it. It started simply with me buying what I thought was a really cool figure. The Red Super Mega Samurai Ranger. Then I purchased the Yellow Ranger. I thought I would stop there, and for a while I just had them doing battle with Godzilla and company.
It didn't stop there though. I was so fascinated with them that I got online and started looking up things, and I became more and more entranced. Then I made my way to Youtube and as random as this is, it made me a full on fan... http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrn8_cWjMoM Now I'm ruined. |
The end of Gokaiger of course :)
|
My favorite moment this year had to be when Akagi transformed into Akibared in real life to save Sayaka. It was hard not to cheer him on as he proceeded to kick ass.
Though Gokaiger's final battle, Go Buster's "final" battle against Messiah, the beginning of KR Wizard, and the concept of Super Hero Taisen were pretty sweet as well. |
My best moment had to be when the Gokaigers turned into the various forms of Kamen Rider OOO.
My favourite Sentai and favourite Rider series to date!! |
mine would be fom Decade in Den-O world. Just seeing the finisher attack with Kuuga Goram given Momotaros's comedic style had me busting a gut
|
hmmm of ALL TIME?!?! Well I haven't been in the Toku fandom that long, but I'd have to say W... all of it. Best Rider show ever, most of the movies were amazing (sorry, Eternal) and just a great cast who totally loved what they were doing. Having Shotaro's actor being a Rider fan himself also helped a little lol
