Just watched Nightmare in Silver. I didn't like most the episode, so I'll be keeping my comments to what I did like.
The Upgraded Cybermen are nice. Though I think Moffat was watching Iron Man 3 when he came up with that one. And Willow. It was nice seeing him again. That was about all I liked. And for the record, that older kid was a bit of a spoiled bitch. And I kind of wished she died. |

I'm just exaggerating though, I don't find these to be really that prominent issues, but I do admit Moffat does slip into these sometimes. Haven't watched Nightmare in Silver as it's due tonight. Can't wait! :D |
My feelings about Nightmare in Silver largely mirror those of Moffat Who in general. It is an episode with brief, but utterly spectacular moments broken up by long moments of utter drivel. Do those spectacular moments save the episode? Not exactly but they do remind me why Doctor Who is always worth the price of admission, even in its weaker moments.

There are some Moffat ideas I liked. Bringing back the Ice Warriors of Mars, until he ruined the illusion and took them out of the armor. And as much as I think Marvel could sue over the new Cyberman design.. I did like them. Then I love Iron Man, so that could be bleeding into it. I like the new Daleks. Clara though makes me miss Amy, and I didn't like Amy.
I am glad the Intelegence stayed. I like that for some reason. |

ok last night episode to me was ok i did enjoy some of it like the fact the cyberman are offically not the parraelle universe cyberman and are in the main universe with the darleks cyberman. the fact the cybermates are now the new cybermites. but for this i did enjoy this new introduction of the cyberman. but dreading next weeks due to i kind of feel its going to ruin the doctor.

Don't know about you guys, but I LOVED this episode. The Cybermen are the best they've been ALL New Series, and are actually genuinely threatening for once. The Cyberplanner has to be the most fun thing in all things Cybermen in a long time, Matt Smith really outdid himself with those scenes.
The older girl was annoying but the younger boy was okay. Besides that, the Emperor was a great character and a twist I did not see coming. Overall, this was a very "feel-good" kind of episode and I think it has to be my favorite episode this season. |

I also have no idea why they had an ending like everyone had been on some nice family holiday, considering the events that transpired over the episode. That ending felt completely disconnected from everything else. |

So, Nightmare in Silver. It was....iffy. The Cybermites were pretty neat, and it was nice to see a Cyberplanner again. Only this one was much more interesting than weird tubey thing in "The Invasion". It was interesting to see the Doctor play off of himself for once. But liking the new look, I thought the new Cybermen were pretty awful. Between the phasing style movement, the horrid new voice and the ability to pick random body parts off of themselves at will I seriously wasn't impressed. The episode also reminded me how much I hate puppet Cybermen too. Millions of Cybermen and all they were here were fancy henchmen. This was certainly one of the better episodes of the half-season but I think Gatiss' offerings were superior. I expected more from Gaiman doing a Cybermen story than an evil Doctor and an amusement park. Oh and Locke hit the nail on the head about the ending. It did seem pretty out of place. Can't wait to be disappointed by next week's! :lol |

Also, I have found Gatiss' episodes the weakest of the season, as do most of the kiddies I have spoken too. (wow that sounds creepier than planned, I mean my cousins and siblings okay :lol). I guess it just shows what a disconnect there are between the critics and the intended audience and what a stupid move it was on Moffat's part to try and make adult and children's entertainment the same thing. |

A cyberman appears in the doorway, you blink and everyone in the room is dead already. That is so cool! |

You know what I hate the MOST about the new Cybermen though that I didn't mention? The fact it can't ever properly join my "Cybermen through the ages" display because the figures are moving to the lame 3.75" scale  |

The problem with the Cybermen is that they're going for "strong metal man/Iron Man" look now rather than "prosthetic human". Like I say it's inkeeping with the "upgrade" mindset they're clearly keeping in the new show, but makes it feel a lot less chilling by feeling less real. That's how I look at it anyway.

It also doesn't help that Moffat is basically a massive Who fanboy and seems to pick stories that basically jack off Classic Who's ego rather than trying to do anything new or well...interesting. Quote:

Then again I try to avoid as much behind the scenes stuff as I can as it can often impact your opinion on a show unnecessarily. |

Oh great... The Name of the Doctor was accidentally leaked by being released on Blu-Ray too early in the US. >_<
Time to avoid any and all Doctor Who threads on forums and image sharing sites... |

The new designs are really nice for me. They're more futuristic, but their blank faces are probably my favorite feature. Even if they aren't as good as Classic Cybermen, they're leagues ahead of RTD's Cybermen, who, forgive me, are simply pathetic. |
Being better than the RTD ones isn't a difficult task though :lol
I have no problem with their looks, I like the way they look. I just think every power they demonstrated in the episode took away the little bit of humanity they're supposed to have left. Anyone who watched that episode and didn't know what Cybermen were could easily mistake them for being purely robotic. |

I guess they felt the need to make them OP given how much of a joke they've been since the relaunch. There were certainly better ways to go about it though.
We also seem to have come full circle. The Borg from Star Trek clearly took some cues from the original Cybermen but now the Cybermen feel like a knock off Borg :( |

So, finally back up. Yay! On Nightmare, it was a good episode that went downhill quickly. The plot was strong, and it would have worked with another monster, but with Cybermen it doesn't feel right. They feel too Overpowered, and as if they have strayed away from what they were. I liked the Golden ticket weakness, but they even changed the explanation of that! I know this could sound whiney, but I feel like I have to say it. The Cybermen were always Humans in Suits. This episode removes both those aspects, with the Doctor being taken over, despite his biology being completely new and incompatible, even though Mr Clever was the best part of the episode, and the Cybers are just too powerful. I can see software problems being fixed, yes, but not that quickly and that's without coming on to how they somehow insulated themselves. That's metal they're changing. Add that to the fact that they can now remove parts of their HUMAN body and it really bugs me.

In Nightmare in Silver. The bigger man, who said he's been raised all his life to fight Cybermen? There's a meme that might explain who that is.
His name is Stormageddon. And he is the Ruler of you All. |

Out of all the interesting little theories about Who side characters that float about, I certainly think its one of the better ones. |
any one else heard of this http://www.tv3.ie/entertainment_arti...article=103035
|
Yep, and I think it's an utterly ridiculous rumour (which should be obvious since its coming out of the Sun). Do people really think they're going to just throw in an extra regeneration and call it canon?
A more plausible theory I've heard is that he's playing an amalgamation of the three "modern" Doctors, which is why he is apparently wearing Eccleston's coat. Not really sure whether I buy that either, but it sounds more likely that what the Sun is reporting. |
Wow Moffat can't get an actor on board so he just makes up a whole new character and chucks it in there?
|
And this is why I said the scale change for Doctor Who figures was a bad thing :(
http://i.imgur.com/AUosP5O.jpg A half decent company could pull figures off this small yeah, but not Character Options. Ice Warrior looks pretty good though, and I'll probably get the Cyberman. And of course the Dalek for obvious reasons :D |
Wow the Doctor and Clara look awful. :lol

I think the monsters/villains look good but the Doctor is terrible. Clara is... okay. Looks chubby.
I wish they'd revised the scale UP to 1/12 so we partner the Doctor up with Den-O etc. |
