Caught up with Walking Dead just in time to see the season 4 finale and... damn.
But where the hell is Beth? :( Besides that... started out quite gruesome and dark and ended predictably, albeit it did leave me wondering what those in Terminus wanted. Also kept it on for the Talking Dead aftershow thing while I resume my web browsing and I had no idea Rick's actor was British. |
I didn't watch The Walking Dead, but I did watch Comic Book Men. Friends is on now

Oh, Agents of SHIELD, you silly television people. Pensacola has no horse racing tracks. Research, people, research.
Other than that, not bad. It's still far from a great show, but it's a worthwhile way to kill 45 minutes or so. It's still better than the crapfest representation that was Pensacola: Wings of Gold, where Florida had mountains. :lol |
Although none of the ideas are all that original, for a TV series Almost Human is really high concept. It's absolutely gorgeous, even if the CGI is nowhere near modern movie standard. Blade Runner is my favourite movie, so it was especially nice that it seemed to take so much from Blade Runner, from the Replicant like Dorian, to the obsession with memories and the pounding rain.
Karl Urban is doing his best Keanu Reeves impression but half way through he gets partnered with the synthetic series DRN - or Dorian - and the show really comes to life. If you weren't blown away by the visuals, their relationship should keep you hooked all the same. Can't wait to watch the second episode. |
I enjoyed Almost Human immensely. It's a shame that Fox aired the episodes out of order here and stuck in a lot of breaks between them. I really hope it gets a second season pick-up. The dynamic of the show reminded a lot of the Alien Nation series.

Watched first episode of Shinigami-kun today and was pleasantly surprised to see Watanabe Shu in it. He was only the guy the main character for the episode had a crush on but it was still great seeing him outside of Kamen Rider.
Based on a manga of the same name that shares it's name, Shinigami-kun follows Shinigami #413(aka Shinigami-kun) as he preforms his duties of informing humans of their time of death with a cheerful 'Congratulations' and watch over them until it is there time. The first episode has already made me cry, I mean any plot about a high school girl dying is obviously sad but Fukuko's devotion to her friend in the hospital despite having only three days to live was really touching. Ohno's Shinigami-kun manages to add much needed humor with his inexperience as a rookie. Like appearing on her bookshelf in her room trying to eat the raw crab(shell and all) he had sent to her asking why she liked such tough food. Or when he drops his Shinigami notebook in the human world in the end obviously leading up to a Death Note Parody next episode. Which I can't wait to watch. |

Been waiting for a new episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit after the GIANT epicness that aired a few weeks ago, hoping this coming Wednesday brings about the return of new episodes.

Almost Human Episode 8/2 :lol Tatyana Forrest is one pretty lady, and she looks badass shooting a machine gun.
This episode was a lot less Blade Runnery than the first episode, but I'm assuming from this that memories will stay as the central mass the rest of the series will gravitate around. Honestly I'm just glad to see the pilot wasn't just a trap to lead you into a subpar series like I find with so many modern tv pilots. Kennex is problematic. I get what they're trying to do with his character but he never feels fully cohesive. He's hurting, and he's angry and this makes him project a front, that part of his character works really well but he turns into Keanu Reeves in pretty much every scene he doesn't have some snappy one liner to play with. I know for a fact that Urban is a great actor, so this must be how the writers and the directors intended the character to be played but I just don't really understand the intention. Is it to show that the only person Kennex can open up to is a machine? SYMBOLISM! Because if so, then why do we have that horribly forced relationship with the female cop whose name I don't even remember as she just exists to be the ticked box love interest? Not only does it clash with the narrative - I mean he's literally being driven by his girlfriend in the last episode, finds out she betrayed him...and now he's trying to get into the tightest pair of ladies jeans in the office? Stay classy. Considering how great the connection is between Kennex and Dorian it feels misguided to try and shoehorn in a second relationship with so little chemistry. Dorian is the star of this show. Plus we can't forget those high concept production qualities, this show has a LOT of fun with the freedom of its setting and apparently huge budget, it's a treat. Especially after watching so much toku. |
Well, things looked good for a bit, but Fox (the king of killing good shows) officially gave the axe to Almost Human. :cry
|
Does the series actually have an ending? Because if it doesn't I may as well stop watching now then.
|
Watched the recent episode of Agents of Shield and damn it, that show has become good. The Cliffhanger was brilliant and I really loved the action this episode. The only thing I want now is for Deathlock to lose one half of his face :lol
|
NCIS LA's newest episode had one hell of a twist same with the NCIS & Person of Interest episodes that were new & aired last night, I wanna pull an M. Night Shamalamadingdong & shout "What A Twist!" so badly right now :lol.

I was listening to the Preorder 66 Podcast, and they mentioned the G.I. Joe episode of Community, and aside from the pacing being a bit too fast. It was cool, and a lot of the jokes were funny.

Started watching Penny Dreadful, it's a very intriguing, supernatural/horror show. It's on Showtime, and just started with Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, and Josh Hartnett.

Drake and Josh
Just happened to catch the back half of an episode on tv. It was the Drake wrestles his current girlfriend episode. This show is super cheesy but I live that. Though there's a lot more sexual subtext then I remember. |
We spent the day watching the first 10 episodes to the second season of Arrow today. All I can say is DAMN!!!

Finally caught up to the current episode of Bitter Blood, Sato Takeru's current drama and am now impatient for the next episode XP. A story about rookie detective Sahara Natsuki(Sato) who is assigned to the Ginza police department first division where his father, who left his family, works and they are forced to become partners.
Lot's of action and suspense, Cop dramas' are my favorite entertainment and there are only a few that have held me at the edge of my seat like this show. The cast is great, story is great, and it does a great job of mixing drama with laugh out loud humor. Watabe and Sato really have great chemistry as the father/son partners who have trouble communicating and seem to be complete opposites but in the end are so similar they end up being great partners on the field. When I heard Sato Takeru's agency was strongly against him reprising his role as Ryotaro in anything Kamen Rider related I was disappointed but watching him here I have to admit the agency made the right decision. I love Den-O, loved him as Ryotaro, but let's face it the Den-O movies after he left weren't masterpieces and perusing a serious acting career was a better choice. |
I finished Kamisama mousukoshi dake A.K.A. God, Please Give Me More Time the other day. And while flawed, it's a really damn good show. It's probably my favorite J-Drama I've seen so far.
P.S. I didn't cry at the end. Just thought I'd share that. I did NOT cry. *sniffle* |
Well, since the Flash pilot seems to be out in the wild, I decided to give it a go. I won't get into spoilers.
Was it great? No. There were a number of things that could turn into major flaws in the long run: the SFX was iffy, some of the dialogue was worse, and a few of the actors probably shouldn't quit their day jobs. All in all, though, it was mostly fun. I'll probably give it a watch when the series starts. |
Are the effects in the pilot even finished? It seems to me that anything that is available to watch four months before it actually comes out is going to be unfinished. Is the pilot you watched even in HD?
|
Yes it's the finished product (or a very close approximation of it). It's a promotional rip of the pilot, not a work in progress leak.
It looks like any standard TVrip. The only difference is it has "PROMOTIONAL COPY ONLY: NOT FOR REVIEW, RESALE OR RENTAL" watermarked at the bottom of it. |

Edit: To further clarify, the effects are on par with what they use in Arrow, it's just there are a crap-ton more of them so it's easier for them to stand out. |
Been slowly watching Penny Dreadful and it's weird. Mostly on purpose, seemingly, but I also find it a largely alienating experience with how wildly the show shifts gears and tones. I guess it isn't a bad thing, but I've watched four hour long episodes and don't even feel like I get the show a little more than I did when I started watching episode one.

Not sure how to feel about Girl Meets World after the premiere... The Shawn substitute felt too forced, as well as the Minkus substitute (well, technically he is a Minkus, but still). Seeing Feeny was great, though.
|
What is Girl Meets World?
Anyway, I've been spending this past week watching Gargoyles. I just finished the Avalon World Tour arc and this show puts nearly everything in the history of cartoons to shame in terms of story telling and characters. Batman The ANimated Series is the only toon that is better, and even that is not by much. Gargoyles is even superior to most of anime out there too. |

Drugs Inc
My parents randomly had National Geographic on and I learned quite a lot about Ecstasy and how its made. |
So it looks like we're two for three on DC pilots this year. Constantine has leaked, leaving only Gotham to trickle out to cover all our bases.
As always, no spoilers. The rip itself had some audio issues, a strange reverb/echo that made it a little difficult to watch, but it was definitely worth a look. As with The Flash, the SFX are TV budget and tend to not hold up to much scrutiny. It was a pretty good show. Thankfully, there was only one horrible southern accent in the entire thing. There were a couple of plot holes big enough to drive a truck through, but it wasn't too distracting. It's a good start, though a little exposition heavy (understandable in a pilot). Sadly, although it sets a good atmosphere, it may be a bit of risk for network TV and the fundamentalists will probably rise up against the show. If it gets more than one series, I'll be surprised (happy, but surprised). Judging by the pilot, methinks whatever we get should be interesting. |
Ridiculousness. Many reruns of Ridiculousness.
|
I've decided to hold off on watching these leaked pilots. As amazing as it would be, I already hate the week long wait between episodes, so watching one episode now and then waiting another 3-4 months for the next episode would be killer.

We spent the day watching Asylum (American Horror Story Season 2). The first five episodes were rough to sit through, but the show did get better afterwards. Unfortunately, it felt like they were just cramming every single Sci-Fi and horror concept into this thing to pad out the timing rather than focus on one point. The alien and demon plots were so convoluted and took away from the Bloody Face storyline, especially because they served no purpose to that plot, which was obviously supposed to be the purpose of the season. It also lacked some of the great cinematography that made Murder House so great and the interesting characters of Coven. I thought Ian MacShane's character was going to be as memorable as Coven's Axe Man, but he wasn't. Overall, I give it a 6/10. It is by far the weakest of the three seasons.

Been watching Party of Five, despite every episode being a drama explosion it never gets annoying, and it's so incredibly engaging and easy to jump into.
Loving it. |
Just caught a preview of the game show that Craig Ferguson will apparently be hosting after he leaves the best show on late night. Craig is delightful as always, but I can't help but feel it's quite a step down. Still, the guy's got to pay the bills.
