These may appeal to some people but overall this doesn't look like it does it for me. But if you love it, awesome, I'm happy that you have something to look forward to :)

Well while reading the posts my mom was channel surfing and guess what idea I came up with?
Jyuden Sentai Kyoryuger X Reshaa Sentai Tokyuger! Dinosaur Train!! Anyways all else aside, after looking at the suits for a while the suits look pretty cool. At first I was a bit surprised but then I was like if they swap colors then it actually makes sense why they did the simple design. The mecha at first looked disappointing but then I started thinking, how would this look in the show? And I started really liking the mech. The gimmick figures look cool and would probably get them. The morpher looks cool considering the theme and I like of how the trains an fit into it. The weapons I don't think a lot of people care for them. |

We know nothing about the cast & crew of Tokkyuger yet. That can make or break a show too.

But not just half-heartedly slapped together with actual attempt at transforming each component into a robotic form. Yeah, sentai robo innovation is long dead. |

Can I be a car attendant?

I wish we knew the release dates and prices for these.

I'll be the coal shoveler!

Omg trains!!!!!!!! I need them like now!!!!!!.
And yay the pink train is actually pink again!!!!!!!! Sorry about shouting i'm just bloody well excited. |
Definitely not digging anything here. The suits feel very retro, but really aren't my cup of tea. As for the mecha... It needs hands. Sure it works every now and then but there's no real excuse here. I also think it'd look better if only the front carriage of each train was the hero colour. It's just plain and too colourful and meh.. I definitely think they're targeting the train collectors more than the Big robot fans.
Granted I didn't like Kyoryujin at first, but it's gimmick and the in show personality of the dinos sold me. I can't see the same happening with trains. Unless there's some awesome second mech/cool combo, then I don't think I'll even bother with the minipla. |

Some quick thoughts:
-The suits are growing on me. -The mecha, yuck. -I love the combined weapon, very Super Highway Buster. -The gun sword is very clunky, I hope the show prop looks better. -Glad to see gimmick toys on par with those Rider gets. |
To be honest its all up to Bandai. They only care if the toys sell a lot like Kyoryuger did. Kyoryuger did bad in ratings but the toys sold well. Gobusters did bad in both departments so Bandai called that a failure.

Easiest skip ever...

*Sees female Yellow*...All is right in the world again.
|
I wonder if Haim Saban is going to try and get Toei to lift the "no skip" thing for this.
And while I don't live in Japan, I sympathize with the disgust toward "Local heroes." Because my city has a guy who for at least the past 15 years has been dressing up as Superman and standing on a busy street corner next to a Dairy Queen for God knows what reason. *shudder* |
Don't know why it took me so long to realize that the Renketsu Bazooka looks like a train crossing over a bridge on its way into a mountain tunnel...
|
After looking at the suits a couple of more times it has started to grow on me.
I just hope the fight choreography and the casting helps out mitigate the initial responses being bombarded so far. |
You guys are much more polite than on the other boards, who are screaming and cursing. :lol Now, what are my impressions? When I first saw these, I was a bit dumbfounded, then I laughed at the sheer ridiculousness of them all, then they grew on me.
-The suits are definitely very simple, but they're not offensive. I like the helmets already and the bodysuit looks better on some of the Rangers, like Pink.So yeah, it's not terrific, but I can see myself liking them. I am very impressed that you guys mostly kept calm and respectable, Tokunation really shows how nice it is again. If everyone hates the mecha, perhaps this time it won't sell out so quick so I can grab one. :D |

The only thing that bothers me is the main body of the Robo, but I have a solution

Or maybe not, I have no idea. The only train toys I know of are Thomas and Chuggington. Quote:

At least we're getting another solid Pink Zord again.

I really don't like non-pink Pink Zords. |

Though I'm just as confused as you are on Gaoranger. That's like the best performing series to this date. |
So I keep going back to these pictures hoping I'm going to suddenly like them or find something to like about them, but I cannot. They just aren't working for me at all.

GaoRanger was also immensely popular. I don't know if fans liked it or not, but it sold well with the target demographic, and most importantly, toys sold well. Go-onger was similarly a strong seller. We mustn't get fan perspectives as an indicator of the success of a series, as Toei/Bandai seem to focus more on toy sales. That was why Go-busters was actually a worry for them, because toys did not sell well that season. They don't care that much for ratings, just toy sales. Here's a helpful post on the toy sales up to Goseiger: http://henshingrid.blogspot.com.au/2...toy-sales.html As you can see, Ohranger is the highest-selling Sentai, followed by Gaoranger. Go-onger was a solid performer too, especially after Gekiranger. http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/353/tdvo.jpg |
Well, this has been a rollercoaster (gasp! next sentai theme?).
When I woke up this morning and saw the pics, my immediate reaction was: "Damn, this is a disaster! The only think I like is the rail-visor." Once I got to work, I gave the images another look. And I realized what the Robo was going for: "Oh, it's supposed to look like a RAINBOW! And they're protecting the Rainbow Line. Clever. And, huh, the way they combine -- that's gonna be real weird and unlike any sentai Robot I've seen. I... I think I like these Robots! But those damn costumes... fuck, if they aren't the worst, possibly in franchise history. Simplistic crap." After lunch, I looked at things again and thought: "You know what? These suits kinda remind me of Megaranger. And wait, Carranger too. Huh, those are pretty simplistic suits, and I love both of those. Maybe these will grow on me too." Now, it's the end of the day. I'm about to go home from work. And my current impression? Weird, cool robot. Decent suits, but never gonna be my favorite. Cool helmets. I think I'm ready for Tokkyuger. |

And like Goseiger, Ohranger's theme is really subtle and could be used for any plot with ease. Yes Ohranger's and Zeo both had a similar plot setup: heroes use ancient crystal powers to fight off robotic space invaders, but they still deviate on the finer points quite a bit. RPM handled Go-Onger's wackiness well because of 2 things: The Space Ranger Setup and the Engines being cars. The later helped because kids love cars and even if they look like weird deisel-powered animals, we all can name SOME work of fiction where the cars had faces and we didn't hate it. The former is because, as we all know, RPM and in Space have similar productions. Both seasons were slated to be the last ever PR season so the writers just said screw it and worked to go out with a bang and be awesome final conflicts. |
