Downloading the sub now. Can't wait to check it out.
*prays it's better than Kyoryuger* There's gotta be a sentai premier I can watch and not be let down by. If this fails me I'll have to go watch an older season or something. Edit: Alright, so just finished the episode and..yeah, that was quite fun. It didn't annoy me nearly as bad as Kyoryuger did, though there was still quite a bit of noise throughout the episode, I wish their bracers would shut up every now and then. Also, ToQ 5 is like..adorable. "Boop boop". I really really like the designs for the shadow line too, mostly. Gretta is kinda...ugh. The crows are pretty cool mooks. Madame Noir isn't too bad. The general dude (not the MotW one) seemed kinda badass too. The "IMAGINATION" thing just made me think of Spongebob..and South Park. ToQ-Oh is awesome. I've been pretty sold on the design from the get-go, and seeing it in action was great. The train motif is really well implemented, it kinda reminds me of Den-O a lot. I haven't seen much of Den-O, just an episode or two, but I liked what I saw of that and this seems to be the Sentai equivalent (hell, isn't there going to be a Denliner Ressha?). As for the color swapping gimmick. I wasn't really feeling it. I mean, it was cool seeing unusual situations like a male pink for example, but beyond that..it was just too busy and I honestly don't see much of the point in it beyond being, well, a gimmick. Especially having just watched the premier for Super Megaforce not that long ago where they just toss their weapons back and forth, that seemed to work much better for them than going through the trouble (and noise) of shuffling their colors/trains around. I did like how Right was just running around swapping with everyone though, to the point that Conductor, who I really really like as a character so far, told him to knock it the **** off. The fight was really enjoyable though. Just some great action. So yeah, that was a really enjoyable start to the series. In a way it reminded me of Fourze, just really fun and feel good. Not necessarily of the same quality, I do prefer the more "intended for a larger audience" feeling I get from Kamen Rider than the "mostly meant for kids" feeling I've had from my experiences with Super Sentai (save for Akibaranger), but yeah...so much better than Kyoryuger was to me. ToQger was FUN, Kyoryuger was just silly, and not in a way I appreciated at all. I mean yeah, there were some oddball, weird, silly moments, but I dunno something like seeing ToQ 2 rolling around for no real reason, or the crows waiting at the line/scrambling back over it when the ToQgers henshined works for me a helluva lot more than closing the show with samba dancing dinosaurs. I liked how it poked fun at how absurd things were, especially with the villains just being like "what the **** is this?". The humor here really really worked, Kyoryuger was just..stupid. This also ends my comparison between the two seasons. Oh, and yeah...calling it that the ToQgers are like, dead or something. I mean it's pretty heavily hinted what with the "as good as dead" line and having seen Right falling out of the tree as a kid. Why they're suddenly grown up, and how long the others were ToQgers before Right showed up..yeah no idea. Could explain why they act so childish though. They died as kids or like went into comas or something and never got to properly grow up and mature. Oh, and I've not read the thread, I'm kinda assuming that there's hate for the way ToQ 5 acts or whatever, since I recall a lot of people hating the whole "super girly" pink thing from back when the cast was revealed and she had the pig tails. But I liked the way she was portrayed, it was..kinda annoying, but in a cute way. I dunno. So yeah, consider me on board this train ride. Oh, quick side note. Really glad this was a one-shot sub deal and that someone else will be doing the rest. The subs were really hard to read at times, that font choice was AWFUL. |
That was... fucking...awful... Ugh. =/

Watched the sub and still love it.
There was nothing said I didnt already knew from the RAW so I dont have alot to add to my previous posts. The Cliffhanger is really interesting though. So our Heroes are dead or about to die and thats why they are able to be ToQger. I am really eager to see how that plays out in the next Episode. |
I just thought of something that could be really dark.Everyone is mentioning how the main theory right now is that the team died as children and became superheroes in the afterlife
But,now just stick with me here, what if The team never existed, even as kids? What if the team is just the Conductor's imagination come to life? It would explain the imagination sub-plot and would explain why they can take kicks from monsters, fly through the air,and land getting up perfectly fine. |
But if they would be just results of Conductors Imagination wouldnt that deminish them as actual characters? Whats stopping him to just imagine completely new heroes once they Start losing a fight?

I just caught the first episode. It was a blast! The show reminds me a ton of Go-onger in how fun and energetic it is. It was just so much fun. I hope it only gets better from here. |
Good thing I never played Kingdom Hearts then :lol
What Interests me is how much they can interact with the "real world" since this Episode heavily implied that only Kids can see the Shadow Line for example. |

Yep Kobayashi will undoubtly go some weird places with this.
Even Den-O her most lighthearted show to date went pretty "mindfucky" when Zeronos was introduced :lol |
I'm sure it's been said in this thread already, but the miniature and puppet work with the trains was gorgeous. Glad to see they're carrying on what they developed in Go-busters and Kyoryuger.

But why wasnt Right with them from the start? If Conductor used his Imagination Power to imagine all five of them into existence why would he let Right run around like that and then be captured by the Shadow Express without him being a ToQger already.

They're just there on the train.Anything involving them as kids is a flashback. What if those flashbacks are the Conductor's memories? |
I never said that Conductor would control him either :lol
Neither am I questioning Rights personality. All I´m saying is if Conductor imagined the five ToQger why have one of them not be part of the Team from the very beginning? |
Quote:
Or worse, he imagined the other 4! |
The thing that makes me think that the ToQger are Kids that died or are on the verge of dying is that its heavily implied only Kids can use imagination power and or have the potential to unlock it.
Thats why the Shadow Express only kidnapped Children and Right since he would still be a Kid even though he has the body of a grown Man. |

Maybe the Rainbow Line allows imagination to become reality, which is why whenever a member of the team imagines something it becomes reality.Maybe it has to do with their passes.Wasn't there something mentioned about the passes needing to be "charged" or else they couldn't use the gear? Also it's implied that everyone can use imagination as long as they believe in it,which is why I think they're the conductor's imagination become reality. |

I just know that imagination is a really strong point in the series.I just personally think they're imaginations of the conductor because we never see where they came from, and the flashbacks are vague. They could be from the Conductor's point of view. |
One more thing I noticed, I really loved the music in the first episode, especially during the henshin sequence:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LbU8P2OfpU It really complements and adds that oomph to the transformation. Also, i think this is one of the more recent times in Toku where the changer sounds do not conflict with the background music. |
The whole Henshin sequence feels very big and grandious especially with the camera shaking a bit at times.
|
Unless of course the Conductor imagined them, and the power of his creations imagination in turn gave them life and independently which allowed them to turn into full fledged people. And that is why they could be Toqgers.
|
I forgot to mention last night: this show's theme song is like something Power Rangers would do if it just got lazy: 30 seconds of the word "Go!" :lol

I love the theme song!
Am I the only one who didn't really care for any of the characters? I'm not trying to deliberately shit on it, as people think I do on things, but it's just we got so little about anyone. Five is "the girl", one is "the leader", two is the "gag one", three is "the other girl" and then four is the "cool one". I'm not saying they can't grow into great characters but I feel with how little we actually got we can't really say anything right now. |
Thats usually how Sentai does it. You get the most basic informations about the characters to know what their deal is. The following Episodes is going to develop them more.

I´m really liking Rights hotheaded personality. Rushing in before thinking about it and making up his plans as he goes along :lol

Watching the subbed version, I find Pink to be even more obnoxious. Her whining about being scared or weak to set up an imagination boost doesn't really endear her to me. It's too much. The writing seems like it's trying too hard to make her childlike, I think. Mind you, I'll have to eat crow if it turns out they're all still actually children who were just imaginaged to fight the bad guys.
I find Yellow and Green to be the least annoying so far with, surprisingly, Red not too far behind. Despite my complaining, I actually mostly enjoyed the episode although Not-Owner makes me long for the real Owner. (Den-O crossover soon, please.) It doesn't grate on my nerves like Kyoryuger did, although I'm a little worried about Red's 'specialness'. Hopefully he won't be a big ol' Mary Sue. |

Thought I'd add a note about Pink. She actually looks somewhat older than her actress actually is. That may be where the disconnect comes from, her more mature appearance seems to clash with her personality. |

I love the opening theme. They say "Go!" for the first 20 seconds repeatedly and it's still leagues better then anything we've recently got over here.lol
I am anxious to see how 2 and 5 grow mostly because no one likes them.I think 2 will grow and have his voice heard. He's the brains yet no one respects him.I bet he gets an episode where he earns that respect. As for 5,she's got a long way to come.I bet her whole story will revolve around why she is scared and why it's harder for her to fight. 1 and 4 are the obligatory hero's.I will admit this is turning out to be a red on the level of Ban and Jan energy wise, which is always a good thing.4 is just...I don't know.It seems like his story was already finished, like there was no way for him to grow because he is already a competent fighter. I do like 3.She comes across as tough but not too tough.I love how she ordered around the goons in the first fight, and I love how she uses an actual fighting style (kendo) when using her sword. I'm pumped for the next episode, and I can't wait to see the other ressha. |

warning, nerd/nitpicking ahead...
The fact the mecha seems to just ride on train tracks gets me...bad monster should just step two feet to the left or right to get away...The final attack...if two sets of gates went down TRAPPING the monster between them as tracks deployed underneath him, that would make sense... ok...I'm cool...I think lol... |
So can we talk about how great this first episode was? Because I loved every second of it :lol
This is just so gloriously silly :lol I mean Kyoryuger had its silly moments too but here it just feels so much better with the cast fully embracing it too, with the obvious slapstick and fourth wall breaking. That being said, the plot is still genuinely interesting and took quite a dark turn right at the end - I'm with you guys thinking they might be dead or near-death, but my other theory is that with the memories of them lost (not just to each other, but to the world too perhaps?) it makes them "as good as dead" and therefore perfect to operate as ToQgers full-time. But best of all, this show is just BEAUTIFUL. I was sold on all the designs from the get-go anyway, but there wasn't a single suit, model or shot in this episode I didn't like. The miniature work has always been one my favourite aspects of tokusatsu so I'm overjoyed to see how much its being used here. I could watch the Rainbow Line and ToQOh all day :D The colour gimmick was handled wonderfully too, its nice to have a moment of the heroes just completely messing around with their powers :lol ToQ #5 is definitely going to be the fun one to watch in battle I think. And to top it off, real trains in the credits! :D Not that I wasn't already, but I'm 100% sold on this show. It is going to be one brilliant year. |
