January? January is one of the deadest months for any type of media to be release at. January and February is the month slot where studios dump their movies if they feel like they have no hope for the movie or have no where to release it during the summer. Besides Cloverfield, Rambo 4, Star Wars: Special Editions and The Green Hornet, movies in January are never blockbusters. I thought Lionsgate wanted this movie to be a big movie franchise similar to the likes of Marvel, Transformers, Star Trek and Ninja Turtles?
|
BAD sign.
January is usually considered "dumping grounds" for properties the studios dont' really care about. |
I saw this coming. 2016 is coming up to fast & there still working out to many things. I hope this is a new team of MMPR Rangers & Not a Reboot.
|
Yeah, this is good news. I'd rather wait a little longer, than get a rushed movie.
|
No reason why a April release date couldn't work since nothing big comes out in April 2017 besides F&F8. A week after Ghost in the Shell would have worked.
|
Choosing January is odd, but I like the delay. The summer of 2016 is crowded with competing blockbuster movies like Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad, Captain America 3 & TMNT 2. The weaker year of 2017 will give them a better chance at box office success.
|
Every year is "weak" when you release your movie in january.
The Summer of 2017 is equally as crowded as next year. You got Transformers 5, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Toy Story 4, Spider-Man and Pacific Rim 2. |
I'll roll with it. I already don't have high hopes for the movie as is. Guess the producers agree with me~
|
I'm still not convinced this movie will even be made.

Plus, I mean... I dunno, how do you do a Power Rangers movie? It's way too silly and dumb to be taken super seriously, you can't make it too light-hearted without making it a parody, and while yeah we like it's goofy, childlike charm and cheeziness, what is acceptable for a fun kid's show is not exactly transmittable to the big screen.
It just seems like a doomed project. |
If they can turn kids shows like Transformers into a serious movie franchise without being too light-heated then anything is possible. It's not like the G1 seasons where not dark and gritty or anything besides the movie have some swearing.

Called it!

In fact, the "direction" the Transformers movies took seems to be exactly what people don't want this movie to be. From the mention of 'dark and gritty' and the assumption that swearing equals maturity you just described everything wrong with the mentality of these adaptations. |
Welp. This movie had something for it, now it's just a thing that will be forgotten. "Hey remember that PR movie by Lionsgate?" " Kinda, it wasn't that great."
Now I don't think this movie will reach as wide of an audience as the TF films have. I just don't see that happening, what would kids want to see more? TF, because of the action and robot fights. Now I'm not saying that the new movie can't be enjoyable, but I can't help and feel that it's gonna be half-assed. |
Just crossing my fingers that this will still succeed.

I'd much rather they delay the movie by a few months to ensure that the product is solid, rather than them rushing it to theaters and us ending up with Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie 2: Electric Boogaloo.
|
I don't think they're delaying it for extra work. I think they're delaying it due to lack of interest.
|
I hope that isn't the case. There might still be some reason for optimism, it was said by the news people that Lionsgate execs were wowed by what director Dean Israelite showed them.
|
But seeing as how little word we have on cast, crew, and script beyond a director, it doesn't sound like many others share that enthusiasm in the project.
|
Agreed. Not that I'm really surprised at all. Rather than attempting to do something cool with all the potential the franchise has to offer (MCU) they're treating it as another series from the past that they can reboot to make a quick cash-grab (Transformers, TMNT, etc.). What boggles my mind is that by taking the time & care needed to make this movie something special they can have a much larger profit. A nurtured, planned-out piece of media is more likely to gain & keep attention rather than a "throw-stuff-at-the-wall-&-hope-it-sticks" piece of media, which will be forgotten about almost as quickly as it debuted.

It could very well be that they haven't really had a sense of how the direction of this movie will go until now. Remember, Roberto Orci was supposed to produce it, but he left the project early (my guess is that he went to work on Star Trek). It could have been directionless since then (explaining the delay), until the director pitched his ideas.
Now that they've got that key element down, the rest of the production could flow a lot smoother. Optimistically, this may also explain why they've only announced a delay date now: they finally have a clear vision of where this movie will go, and how long it will take to produce. So I suppose it won't be long before casting begins. They've also been working on the script this whole time, so that should be progressing better now, too. |
I get it.
They're afraid a movie based on Power Rangers, even a reboot won't hold enough muscle to go up against: Batman v Superman: Custody Fight X-Men: The Reboot with the fight everyone wanted Part 2 Kung Fu Jack Black Needs More Money Panda 3 Finding Dory and my crying tissues Captain America: Civil Servant 3 Doctor Strange For The Hardcore Fanboys Of Obscure Marvel Characters Ghostbusters III Less Slime, more estrogen So yes, a B grade movie should be slated for a winter month 2017. Because then they'll only have to be concerned with going up against other B grade movies. Who needs a good script to compete against that kind of high level competition? |

Next it took so many months just to get Isrealite on the film. Being a younger & less experienced talent I doubt he was busy working on other things. They didn't pick any other big-name to help out because it's likely no one else wanted to work on the movie. They didn't wanna compete with all the sure-fire money grabbers like Civil War. If they really wanted to get Isrealite from the start & had complete faith in him then why did it take this long to get him? Then the whole date movement occurred. Would it have happened if they got their act together for the film in the first place? If they really thought Power Rangers could hang with the Marvel & Disney movies of that year then this wouldn't be happening & none of us would be discussing this right now. I hate to be all cynical & negative but I think this is the truth. Hopefully I'm wrong & they just went through a series of unfortunate events. However I still believe that they see this as nothing more than a quick business venture rather than a potentially good business venture. |
It's actually not Stark Trek guys. Orci was slated to direct Trek 3 but left that project entirely to take on Power Rangers. And his replacement was Justin Lynn from the Fast & Furious franchise. Then subsequently Orci bailed on the Power Rangers film as well. He's not working on Trek anymore.

Teaming up with Michael Bay for another "HUMANS! ...Guest starring a crazy Optimus Prime, annoying Bumblebee, and some other guys of no concern." |

Probably because Orci is legit fucking crazy in real life. He believes the US used an Earthquake ray on Mexico and stuff. |

He left Power Rangers around September:http://deadline.com/2014/09/power-ra...trek-3-837131/ He left Star Trek around December: https://deadline.com/2014/12/star-tr...ci-1201311255/ Quote:
So in that case, it does not necessarily mean he left because of a lack of interest in Power Rangers. |

Its interesting that dinozords have a flight mode. I like that there is a ramp for the rangers to get into their zords instead of jumping in it because its more realistic. I'm staring closely at the pink ranger outfit to see how the ranger suits look like. |
I get that these are just rough concepts if anything, but man I do not care for what I'm seeing.

It looks alright. |
Very very cool looking. Here's hoping the movie gets made.
|
I'm not even sure of what I'm seeing, but as long as they combine into a half-competent robot, it'll do.
|
I'm getting a Bayformers feeling out of these images :(
|
I am really liking the pink Zord a lot. Interesting that they're "triple-changers" to use the Transformers term.
The Red one, there's just not much to see yet. But I hope it's good. |
It would be kind of funny if this team is some sort of military team like the original Sentai
