If only they made a more updated looking animation for the G1 era, like a reboot of sorts but same designs and with updated art.

I know people love the new stuff and I respect that but personally I feel like they are butchering Transformers with this RiD stuff. I know I'm just biased to G1 and 2 but its just how I feel.

I think people just don't get it.
G1 is very episodic and gets very stale quite quickly. You may laugh at how silly some plots are, but the fact that they play them completely serious is not a testament to any sense of timelessness, and shows how badly we need to change.
RID isn't the best series to spawn out of the franchise, but I like the path it's taking. The humor is hit or miss a lot, but I find it enjoyable. The characters are all likable, the decepticons are interesting, and they're taking the same path that every TF series should take: A small cast.

But here's the thing. Is the Galvatron in AoE really Megatron revived and reformatted? Or is it just somebody using the name of Galvatron? Also, I saw some shots of the other robots. Horrible!! Simply HORRIBLE!!

And other than the stupid as hell transformation thing, Galvatron is the only remotely salvageable thing in that train wreck of a film.

Neither have I, but possibly the only good thing in this movie is that Frank Welker speaks Galvatron. It's still dialogues from the kindergarten, but at least performed with an epic voice.

Also, since GPR started the whole "modern Dinobots"-thing:

RiD2015 Grimlock is possibly my favorite version of the character. Simple-minded yet not a complete caveman, makes good use of both of his modes, and is generally funny. Khary Payton's voice fits him perfectly. Also a really awesome design that isn't just another G1 ripoff.

The show is decent, but RiD's Grimlock is fantastic.

I honestly didn't have a problem with Galvatron's transformation in the movie. It makes sense given the context that he's some kind of smart metal and shit.
What I did have a problem with was how everyone looked. They all looked like garbage. Detailed faces through large lips and an overabundance of folds and joint cuts look like shit and everyone suffered for it (Except Hound, I guess, since his "Rough and grizzled" look fit it). The robot modes went for a more smooth looking design, and as a result, they all looked nothing like what they transformed into (Sans Bee), and they just didn't do a good job in designing the bots overall.

Dinobots suffered from a lack of color, especially.

As for RID Grimlock, I love the guy. He's so silly but super vital to the team. I love when he's on screen.

I love the old-school G1/2 Transformers because they didn't look like they changed into what they did. That was the glory of it. Truly Robots in disguise. The newer movies were cool in the sense that did make them look like they actually transformed. They weren't seamless, they were rough and showed what was supposed to be exposed. But G1/2 was so smooth and awesome, I'll never get over them.

Well, they did look like what they changed into. I'm thinking of the wrong words here. They had a different aesthetic compared to todays.

I want to agree, but Transformium and splitting into freaking blocks to transform still ruins him entirely for me. The fact that they did that at all just bothers me. It's cheap from a writing and design standpoint, because now the robots don't have to resemble any sort of alternate form at all. His first appearance and when he talked, though... Great.

Optimus Prime being a murderous psychopath? Not great.

Dinobots having no character, just appearing for a single fight, just haphazardly being let loose in China after said fight, and ultimately not really mattering? Even less great.

Transformers being widespread public knowledge with the Autobots being public figures so surely everyone could know who they are... yet still incompetent scientists believed they were melting Decepticons and never questioned the numbers the mercs were pulling in "by themselves"... Ugh. Less important but still annoying.

It's not that weird, TMNT is a much better film.

I get this guy for about 25€ on HLJ, that's much cheaper than buying a Voyager-class toy in stores. Yes, shipping and handling fees, but since I ship all my monthly orders together this isn't too bad.

I can just go to Wal-Mart and buy a Grimlock. Which is where I might go tomorrow after school... >__>

The raising costs was what forced me out of collecting if I'm honest. That and not getting the last bunch of Transformers Animated toys in the UK.

If you like the Warrior-toy or one of those 3-step changers than yeah, do that. I would do so too but I want a Voyager RiD Grimlock, Takara is offering one, Takara gets the money.

With Transformers I have almost no other choice than import. Germany isn’t getting everything, which is especially laughable with Combiner Wars where they skip a complete wave with bots you need to form a complete Combiner, and they are so damn expensive.

I made the calculation with CW Megatron. Buying him from Takara, with shipping and custom fees included, was just barely as expensive as buying one in a store. If you could find one that is, because I never find these things in my area.

And since Takara usually offers better painted figures and I have SHF's and stuff I buy from Japan anyways... yeah, might as well order some Transformers too. And of course, the exclusive stuff Takara is doing, like giving me the RiD Grimlock I want and releasing the only freaking BW-toy in the whole year.

I hate these new "simple" or "3 step" transformers. When I was a kid (dear Goddess I can't believe I just said that) you had to figure the shit out. Twist here, rotate there, flip here. The only instructions you got were vague images on the back of the box. Or in some of he older cases you got a folded piece of paper, still vague images!!

That really is just a fantastic remold. Wonderfully captures the RID Grimlock. A part of me thinks of how awesome the whole line could be if they were all to that level in engineering and detail, but do have to remind myself that the toys aren't meant for "us" but for kids first. (Fully aware of how criticized FoC Grimlock was for his poor engineering and totally agreeing on parts, but compared to RID figures was still IMO better.)

Yeah it's the same here. Haven't followed Combiner Wars all that closely (I really wanted Cyclonus until I saw it in person and then realised I didn't like it at all), but I know that all the mainline AOE stuff was exclusive and most toyshops only got the 1-step lines. Now that I find laughable.

Yeah, I never cared for these 3-step TFS myself. Seems like a waste of plastic but gotta keep the stupid kids happy I guess.

In the end Hasbro is a corporation and while we should be glad we still get stuff like CHUG (Classics, Universe, Henkei and Generations) and MP kids are the target audience and some kids sadly don't have the brainpower to go past "flip the switch and you're done" Personally I think it's overcompensating for how complex the first two movie lines were but hell if I know.

I've basically fallen out of collecting them entirely. The quote-unquote good figures tend to be G1 fanwank that doesn't interest me anymore, while RID figures just cut far too many corners for me to warrant picking them up. Smaller sizes, very basic transformations, and very weak paint apps, all wrapped up in a raised price point. Yeah. I'm not dropping $20 for a glorified legend class or $30 for what would be a deluxe not even 5 years ago.

I'm not into the x-step changers myself but I would've loved those as a kid. I' don't particularly like overly complicated transformations, but I love creative ones that are fun to do. And I think kids can enjoy these step changers before they eventually want more.

I agree. I also love how this mold is the FOC-Grimlock – which is supposed to be the same character in Hasbro's aligned continuity. You know, the one that they don't care about anymore.

The only thing I bought so far are repainted older molds from the TAV-line. I love how Takara uses this line to bring back molds from past shows in new colors. Battle Grimlock will be the first design from the show I own, but still a non-original mold :lol

It's that and Takara doing an overall better job at pleasing me which makes me drop the import money.

With combined wars.going takara route I don't follow the comics and I.just want my G1 Style combiners I got united warriors superion at auto assembly this year and I love it. Plus sold mh SDCC first edition classic prime for £40

It's kind of a shame since they've been getting above average reviews and they do look cool, combiner ports in chests aside.

Rook and Alpha Bravo look to me like the most fun members of their teams (can't say for sure, though, I don't own either of them). As for Offroad... well, I really wish the backpack collapsed more.
