Metroid is the name of a franchise and a singular species from the games, not the protagonist. So Samus can be completely absent and the games can still fit in the timeline.

If this had been in the 90s, fine, but Metroid is nearly 30 years old and always has been about Samus. You can't just decide to change that now.

There was no Metroid on N64 either and that gave Nintendo enough time to figure out how to do a new one and give us a brilliant game with Metroid Prime on Gamecube.

With this E3 Nintendo pretty much already showed that the WiiU as a platform is probably not something they are going to invest any further. They are now focusing all of their resources on the NX. Waiting a year or two longer for a new proper Metroid wont kill you and it feels like your just bitching for bitchings sake at this point.

On an unrelated note I saw a hands on with Sonys new Project Morpheus and damn this looks like tons of fun to play around with.

It's a matter of perspective. For months, the Nintendo community was expecting to be royally treated with a ton of new game announcements this year for the Wii u to be its last hurrah, much like the Wii in 2010. Last year was excellent for them at E3 as well. I mean, they've given us all of their best franchises on a struggling system before (Gamecube) so why expect no different of the Wii U this year?

But nope. No new traditional Metroid, no proper Animal Crossing, no 3D Mario, no Retro Studios game, no Punch-out or Mario Strikers. All we get is Mario Tennis and Nintendo shoving Mario Maker down everyone's throats. A lot of premiere Nintendo games they want and Nintendo has not delivered it on this system.

Square-Enix, not Sony. Sony gave them a big bag of money to get the annoucement on their own conference and a temporary exclusivity.

Why invest your money in doing gigantic games like those for a dead system. And thats what the WiiU is at this point. Its selling like crap and Nintendo moved pretty much all their development over to the NX. They wouldnt sell enough of those games to warrant a development for WiiU.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised now if the next Zelda update is that it's not going to be Zelda "U" anymore...

If they followed that policy they would never make any games as each Nintendo system has had worse sales then the last (save the Wii) and they would just keep delaying the games to new systems.

The WiiU is dead. Its over, done. It wont sell any better no matter what they do. Relasing those games for the WiiU changes nothing for them except wasting money.
And releasing a bunch of games just to make some fanboys happy wont help them as a company.

At this point I'm anticipating it being another Twilight Princess. It will probably still be released on the Wii U, but they'll release an "enhanced" version for the NX like they did with Twilight Princess on the Wii.

Which, knowing how that and Rainbow Six went, the finished Wildlands will likely bear very little resemblance to the version teased and it'll be a couple of years before it actually sees the light of day. Still, an open-world military shooter is an interesting prospect, and this is coming from someone who's bored to death of the the MS genre.

I don't think "stagnant" is quite the right word here. F-Zero's a vegetable at this point.

I just hope Nintendo has finally learned it's lesson about releasing sub-par hardware that relies on gimmicks*Wii* or gimping otherwise great hardware with an outdated or weak software medium*N64 and Gamecube*.

I hope Nintendo will drop the gimmicks with the NX and do a normal gaming console again. With the Wii U, they try to repeat the same gimmick in 2006 with the motion control gimmick. By 2012, no one give a shit about motion controls. I do miss the days when Nintendo was still view on the same rank as Sony and MS during the Gamecube era. They where still big in the mid-late 90's since the N64 was the second most popular console next to the PS1 from 1995 - 2000 at that time.

My guess is that E3 2016 will be about the NX and Nintendo will try to release it sometime in 2017. It won't surprise me if the PS5 and X4 will be out by 2018. We normally get two console generations in the same decade.

I think it would be smart to release the NX the same year it is announced. Pretty much like Microsoft and Sony did it in 2013. Depends on how long they are working on that thing though.

I seriously wish there was more support for the Wii-U. It could do pretty well with some big name stuff. I guess they are saving up for the NX, but it would be nice...

I personally feel like the Wii U would have sold better if they market it better. I remember the Wii was sold out almost everywhere when it first came out in 2006. While the Wii U hardly sold out when it was first release in 2012. It also took a long time for people to buy a Wii U. Last year, we had Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors. It took two years to have games that people wanted.

What was wrong with the GameCube? The Microdiscs?

So if I got a PS4 this year I'd only get about 3 years out of it?
