I know this isn't the popular opinion from what I've seen elsewhere online, but I love this show and everything we've seen from it so far and I cannot wait for it to start airing.

Remember how quick people were to dismiss Gaim based on the fruit ssmurai look originally.

And I love how the first major upgrade is Hunting Action, given how huge Monster Hunter is in Japan.

Ex-Aid himself is alright, but Brave and Snipe are fantistic designs IMO.

This is all so very ugly. The hair and the eyes really kill it. We're it not for those, these would all be perfectly okay suits. The belt is especially uninspired, and looks super cheap.

It's like someone tried to emulate Gaim, and took everything the totally wrong way.

I think I'll most likely end up passing. Visually it reminds me of the unfortunate design hybrid of a terrible mobile game and some sort of Naruto knock-off. Ghost has been, to me, awful and although Drive did get better, it will never rank among my favorite series (but I honestly love the SHF Tridoron). I just don't see the trend turning around. More power to those of you who find it appealing, it's just not looking like my cup of tea.

I expect some reaction over the designs, but this is a bit more than I was expecting.

I personally do not like the designs as they do not look anything like Kamen Riders and are ugly besides.

They do, however, fit the theme perfectly. The theme and and story as we know about sound refreshingly different and potentially awesome. Suits aside, it has the potentially for being a really good show. It seems that they are trying to do something new and different for this season. This good be good or bad, but I appreciate that they are trying something new at least and hope it turns out as good as I think it has the potential to be.

Still think the suits are ugly though.

You know, now that I look closer at the image, I can see outlines on the clear plastic parts of the Gashatts. The transformation ones seem like the silhouette on the Gamer Driver, so maybe it has some kind of projection thing to customize it for each rider that changes with adding their upgrade ones.

It's a great design and theme. I'm feeling a lot of the hate is stemming from people just not getting the concept. Or they just hate everything, which I've seen alot in the KR fandom, some folks you'll never please.

I like the shape and lines of the suit designs, and I like the theme. I just don't like the colors, that's it. Pretty much everything else is fine, I just can't get passed the colors just yet.

I have to admit I really like the idea of a cheesy looking hot pink main Rider. I'm feeling pretty excited and the general concept sounds interesting. As a big RPG fan I'm particularly interested in Brave out of the ones we've seen so far. Really curious about who will be the main writer on this season though. Does anyone know roughly when we'll get that information?

Well, I know Yasuko Kobayashi, Riku Sanjo and Takuro Fukuda will NOT be the main writer of Ex-Aid

Kobayashi might do a second season of Kamen Rider Amazons, Riku Sanjo is taking a break to write his new manga and Takuro Fukuda is not writing Ex-Aid because he already did Ghost!

I have to admit it is creative. I like the idea of him creating the driver himself. I'm calling it right now. If he creates the driver then the other riders are just going to be his nerdy gaming buddies that he gives drivers to.

My speculation is that they either go cutesy like Datas from Goseiger or the direct opposite and go gritty dudebro.

There's a difference between not getting something and not liking something. If some people prefer their Kamen Rider shows to not be about weird neon video game dudes with anime eyes, I think that's understandable.

I mean, Gaim had an orange slice for a sword, but he was also a cool samurai, which I think balanced out the weirdness for a lot of people.

I'm catiously optimistic about the show, but I don't think it's exaggerating to say this is the most out-there set of costume designs Rider has ever had, and they've some pretty wacky ideas before.

For me the aesthetic just works given its theme.
And I could use a magenta-colored rider by now after two shows that failed to grasp my attention for the whole year.

The story bit of the main page in the catalog doesn't mention half of what's being claimed. The only things I can outright make out are that it's about a genius gamer named Emu who uses the Gashats to become Ex-Aid and fight Bugsters/Bugstars.

I think Emu is like Tony Stark of Kamen Rider because both of them are brilliant, creating their own equipment and inadvertently created the villains (Unless you prefer Hank Pym being the creator of Ultron in comic than film)

Yep the synopsis on the flyer only mentions that in 2016 the Bugsters appear out of nowhere and attack people and genius gamer Emu swears to get rid of them by becoming Kamen Rider Ex-aid using the gamer driver and the legendary game softwares called gashats. Multiple genre of riders will appear, Ex-aid must master the many games and defeat the Bugsters. They don't mention anything else besides what I just wrote. I would not be surprised if it did lead to that Emu pulled a Tony Stark and created the Bugsters but I will take it with a sack full of salt until we get them terebi-kun scans and press conference material.

If Kamen Rider Ex-Aid seris is dark series I think Ex-Aid also will similar to Gaim because both Gaim and Ex-Aid themes looks light hearted and colorful (fruits and video games) but has darker plot and darker storyline.....

You really shouldn't be so quick to believe random people.

He's got that bogus series description in the video description that he ripped straight from HeroShock. He's also being pretty evasive to provide an actual source that's not just "this guy said xxx". Also he straight up deleted the comments where he said that the series was dark and me asking for a source. (like, he might have just let something slip but that still wouldn't be an official source)

I'm not intending to trash other places but if you want scans and stuff, forums and other blogs will serve your needs. If you want tokusatsu news with verifiable details and sources from the Japanese media, I would stick to the Tokusatsu Network. Full disclosure, I work for the Tokusatsu Network but we're in the habit of not spreading unverifiable news. I'm not saying other places don't post real news from time to time but places like JE Fusion and Orends often simply repost news from other blogs. I also don't believe anyone who writes for those sites can read Japanese whereas TokuNet has various people on staff that are fluent. If you see something on TokuNet you can be 99% sure it's true. (we have a good relationship with Toei because of it, several of our members have been in Sentai and Rider and we've been invited to press conferences in the past)

You work for Tokusatsu Network, Congratulation on that! Which press conference did you went to?

It looks like the name Emu is written with some kanji or another, which I find interesting. I figure "M" would be a cool hacker alias kind of thing, but this suggests the guy's name is actually real.

It's also definitely not short for emulation though, since that'd be something like "emyu" in kana. Unless they were explicitly thinking about romanization, which again, given Toei's track record for weird names, would not surprise me.

Not that I'm fluent or anything. I'm sure there are more qualified people than me to discuss this kind of stuff.

The Kanji given for his name is 永夢. You're not likely to find anything in better quality. These catalog scans are never meant to be seen by the public and probably have an identifier on them that indicates who they were given to.

Love The Tokusatsu Network. Been following you guys for a while. Big fan! I especially like the weekly blog/social media updates from current/past Toku actors/actresses, those are fun reads, lol.

This show is definitely getting me more interested every time I check out the rider designs. One thing I would change would be the eyes and that's it. I wish they were like the traditional rider bug eyes.
