So this was posted on Twitter by Nerdist today. To me it feels like a lot of these don't line up. So if you were tasked with making a post like this, what words would you use for each rider? (you can feel free to respond seriously or in jest) For me it would be: Kuuga: Kind or Powerful Agito: Like I want to fight god Ryuki: Frustrated and Confused Faiz: Like I want to be understood Blade: Like I want to fight a peacock Hibiki: Ready to work Kabuto: Confident Den-o: Unlucky Kiva: Shy but also monstrous Decade: Snide Double: Split OOO: Ready to GOOO Fourze: Like I want to make friends Wizard: Hopeful Gaim: like I'm Growing Drive: In top gear Ghost: Empathetic Ex-aid: Frustrated but not confused Build: Gay Zi-o: All of the Above |
Can only fill out the ones I've seen so
Kuuga: Kind Agito: The law Ryuki: Nosey Faiz: Gay Blade: Stalwart Hibiki: Lost Kabuto: Cocky Den-o: Unlucky Kiva: Cute but might delete later idk Decade: Crap Double: Double Gay OOO: Anything goes Fourze: Friendly |
Kuuga: Optimistic
Agito: Enigmatic Ryuki: Resolute Faiz: Aloof Blade: Dutiful Hibiki: Happy-go-lucky Kabuto: Confident Den-O: Goofy Kiva: Sentimental Decade: Destructive W: Explorative OOO: Humble Fourze: Friendly Wizard: Stylish Gaim: Benevolent Drive: Energetic Ghost: Ethereal Ex-Aid: Exciting Build: Inspiring Zi-O: Grand |
Also can only go with the ones I've seen.

Kuuga: Skilled Agito: Optimistic Ryuki: Determined Faiz: Sarcastic Blade: Unpronouncable Hibiki: Trained Kabuto: Arrogant Kiva: Clean Decade: Onore |

Kuuga - Decade: Phase 1 W - Zi-O: Phase 2 I don't blame anyone for using the terms they're comfortable with, just letting people know that official names for the different Heisei show categories exist. |

Personally speaking, I think 'Neo Heisei' became even more appropriate ever since Decade reappeared in Zi-O sporting his 'Neo Decadriver', called as such because it included the power of the latter ten Heisei riders :v

Try to imagine Grease doing any of the cool things he does, or shouting his passionate lines, while looking like this.

What is that, like a prototype design or something?! lol

It's just the undersuit that briefly appears before the Robot Jelly applies the armor:

I love pseudo "base" forms like this! Like how silly do the Kabuto riders look before the rest of their helmet forms after casting off.

I didn't need to be reminded that Navy Blue is an underused suit colour and the fact Build only used DragonLock once WOUNDS me
|
I just want to point out that this was the first ever Kamen Rider suit I saw in live-action:

Making it the first suit you ever see is actually a really smart move. It sets, like, a ceiling on how absurd Ex-Aid would get. There's almost nothing in the show as broadly comedic as that suit. (Your mileage may vary!) If you can get on board with that gimmick, and stick with the show until the Level 2 suit debuts, you'll probably enjoy the rest of the show. The Level 1 suit is like throwing you in the deep end, aesthetically. Hope you don't drown! |
And then there probably are those whose first rider suit they ever saw was this.

He just looks... naked. (As for my first Rider suit, I legit don't remember, unless you really want me to say "Masked Rider". I stumbled into here backwards through Dragon Knight, so it could be one of those suits? Or maybe OOO, since that was airing when I first picked up on the Japanese side. I think the first thing I actually watched was Movie Wars Megamax of all things, and the first Riders in that are the Seven Legendary ones! Basically, what I'm saying is, it's Masked Rider.) |
The first episode of Kamen Rider I ever watched was the first episode of Decade. So I guess my first Rider suit was all of them?
|
My first taste of Rider was either Super Hero Taisen or Ninninger v Drive (I forget which). So my first suit was either the Seven Legendary Riders, or Drive.

They made a pachinko game for the Double Riders. What's interesting is that the suits are redesigned, featuring a more modern looking original suits but more super-heroish than The First suits. I really love it. Hopefully maybe we can get a figure of them someday.

Those suits look legit cool, not gonna lie. Probably wouldn't get figures of them myself, but hey.
(also I like your new avatar!) |
Those suit designs looks sweet

Another topic for discussion, if you could pick one song to remember each Heisei series by, and would perform under hypnosis if asked to, what would it be?
Kuuga: I’d go for the main theme, since I haven’t heard anything else from the show other than the ED (which is ‘ok’) and the Ultimate Form theme (which is heavy metal, so I automatically say ‘no’). Agito: I haven’t really seen the show, or heard much of it’s music. I’ll just go with the theme song until I actually watch the show. Ryuki: I’ll go with Revolution for this one. There wasn’t much choice otherwise. Faiz: I named Dead or Alive my favourite Rider ED and I stand by that choice. Blade: Rebirth, mostly for the rhythm and vocals. Hibiki: Again haven’t seen the show, so I have to pick between the ED and the second OP. I’ll pick the former. Kabuto: I’m going with Full Force for this one. It would be Next Level, but I think the vocals and pitch let that down in my book. Den-O: Hmm, should I pick Climax Jump, Climax Jump, Double Action, Double Action, Double Action, Double Action, Double Action, Double Action, Action Zero, Action Zero…? Kiva: It was going to be Supernova, but keep alive and This love never ends (Emperor edit) have eclipsed it. Decade: I’m going to go with Ride the Wind, because again, there’s not a lot of choice. W: It was leave all behind, but I’m now leaning more towards the re-recording of Finger on the Trigger. OOO: Time Judged All. Literally everything else is forgettable. Fourze: Shooting Star, mostly for the music video with Meteor defeating 100 Dustards. Wizard: Forest of Rocks (hey, I didn’t say I couldn’t include movie themes. I’ve already included openings and songs that came out after the show ended). Gaim: Rise up your flag. The lyricist peaked with this song if you ask me. Drive: Who’s that guy?, though this is slightly biased, since it’s the first rider song I ever heard. But then again, it’s genuinely the best song on Drive’s album if you ask me. Ghost: Surprisingly, there is some choice for this show if you’re prepared to look, so I’m going with the harpy 4 song Senryoku Start Line. Ex-Aid: B.A.T.T.L.E.G.A.M.E. How can you go wrong with a collaboration between Rider Chips and the KRG? Build: Yet agin, I haven’t seen the show, so I’ll default to the theme song. Zi-O: I’m going to close this list with Future Guardian Geiz, for how kickass it is in general. |
Hey folks, so I'm thinking about Kamen Rider again. I feel like there's something holding the series back, like the directors are all experienced and at least decent, the writers competent and good at their jobs, the actors do fantastic work, but it still feels like something is missing somehow.
(also the effects, designs, and stunt work are great just couldn't think of more synonyms) Basically I'm watching Ultraman Z and it just feels more alive, then even the Kamen Riders I love, and I'm trying to figure out why. |

Sometimes this stuff... I don't know if we're meant to enjoy it forever? Sometimes we enjoy something for a few years, and that's as much of it as we'll ever want, and that's it. Filled tank. We never know how big that tank is. Could be something that's as big as an ocean, could be as big as a swimming pool. It fills up, though. (This is a very Superhero Comics problem. It's kids' entertainment. It's designed for a kid to watch two or three years worth, and then grow out of it, to be replaced by new kids. The idea of adults sticking with a franchise for five, ten, twenty years... it wasn't designed for that kind of scrutiny! Asking something that was designed to turn over its audience every few years to be fresh and vital for decades... that's not fair? I don't know. I see it with folks who can't figure out why they're burned out on Batman comics after reading Batman for 25 years and I just want to say, "You definitely are not meant to read Batman for 25 years.") The good news is, it'll evaporate over time. Maybe don't force yourself to be into something that isn't clicking with you? Like, if you're having fun with Ultraman, just watch Ultraman for a while! Don't make watching Kamen Rider into work. In a little while you might not feel like Ultraman is that fresh, and hey, guess what? There's a bunch of Kamen Rider shows for you to catch up on. |

Edit: Also that one show that's like Ryuki but not |
I like Kamen Rider as a franchise more but I enjoy watching Ultraman better.
Why? It's a more refined, simpler experience. These shows are 20-ish episodes long, they don’t have multiple story arcs, not too many characters, it's just a core cast dealing with monsters and aliens until the bad guys decides the show is over soon so they'll need to do stuff themselves. With Ultraman, you're always getting what you want: A familiar setting, fun characters that interact in a great way, and then the superb, amazingly done fight scenes with beautiful effects and miniatures. Kamen Rider? Well, if you don't like an arc or a character, tough luck, sit it out for a year. That doesn't happen too often thankfully, but Zi-O was my most recent experience with the feeling. I just really didn’t give a damn about it anymore less than one third into the show. By that point Ultraman is over. It cannot possibly overstay its welcome. You always get excellence in a small, tight package. But as I said I like Kamen Rider more overall, because when stuff is good, it’s real good. An entire years worth of a journey that makes you miss the characters like they were a real part of your life. Doesn’t really happen with Ultraman for me. So it’s not that complicated: Ultraman is an activity I can perform once a year for a few weeks in the summer, enjoy it, then look forward to next year. Kamen Rider is a trip to a different place where I meet new people and see all kinds of new things. That doesn’t always work out but when it does it’s a memory that you know will not be replicated easily, and thus you miss it more. Kind of strange, but basically: Ultraman short and sweet, Kamen Rider more ambitious and thus more affected by fatigue. |
