I was asking about Crimson Ranger in Hurri.

Finally recovered from toku burnout and I decided to check out King-Ohger.

I've definitely returned at the right time. I hope that King-Ohger can keep up the impressive quality it's displayed so far but my goodness is this a wonderful return to tokusatsu for me.

They reinvented themselves as a goofier franchise in the last two years, a lot of people were turned off by the results and the franchise faded (Toei cancelling it to make way for Ishinomori reboots helped the two series gain a franchise killer reputation, which Toei was until recently all too happy to support)

Still, I think that the last two series are more consequences than the cause of the collapse of the franchise. I mean, Toei wouldn't be changing the tone for Kabutack if the B-fighters who were doing well. And I certainly would not have launched Robotack if Kabutak had turned out to be a complete failure. Plus, let's not forget that before this, the franchise was trying to become more mature with Blue SWAT, and the fans didn't appreciate it either. Well, finally, the revival of the riders was prepared for a long time, which means it was necessary to clear the schedule.
If any show is considered the killer of the franchise, then this is Garo: Versus Road. To destroy such a promising and popular topic so quickly, you really need to be a genius in your own way.

It's still a radical shift, though. The KR reboot was in the cards for years, but I guess it could be argued that, at that point, they already knew MH was going to be the franchise axed for Kuuga, so they might as well do something weird for their last installments.

I only follow Garo very casually, I thought Versus Road was supposed to be the first to take the brand wherever, since they just wrapped up the Saejima family's involvement in the franchise in Moonbow Traveler about a month before Versus came out.

You know, with King-Ohger telling a coherent story so far - I wonder if and when the change to episodes like "A malevolent toilet monster that steals ice cream coupons has appeared and is ruining everyone's day" will happen.

Carranger is nothing like Turbo. It's a very different (and divisive) beast. Instead of a standard Sentai season, it acts as a parody of the standard Sentai (like if Akibaranger was official, made in the 90's, and was slightly more normal).

Well here's a random thought I have.

No matter how many times I try to watch a Sentai I :

- Never finish watching it for whatever reason, I never finished Jetman and I don't remember finishing Zyuranger

- I love Time Ranger and I think it's way better than Time Force

- Apart from Time Ranger, I have trouble getting invested in the story or the characters of other Sentais.

- I love Kamen Rider but I find Sentais to be too light in term of mood.

- Most of the time I prefer the Power Rangers versions even though I know they are clearly inferior to the source material.

Aaaand, that's all I think.

I can advise you to try to watch the Livemen. They have a fairly serious tone, and yet they do not go into the sometimes excessive drama of the Jetmen.

Yeah, I mentioned it for its comedic tone. Let's not forget that this was the show that had its rangers in a pizza and their red ranger uses up a wish for katsudon. And has their green ranger go all the way to the most Northern region of Japan to get a new weapon back because they sent the wrong package. :lolol

Liveman is worth it. Last Showa sentai, first female blue ranger, Kamen Rider Ghost's dad is in it, Joji Nakata is the big baddy, Kikaider is their mentor, first time a black ranger and green ranger were regulars together, the show that Hurricanger borrowed from, and that's about it I guess. Oh and moonwalking female robot. :lolol

Also the first animal-themed show. By the way, it just occurred to me that Alpha-5 was most likely inspired by Colon. Well, if so, then this is one of those cases where the original is better both in character and in plot.

I will agree though that Liveman was the animal team to fully commit from their suits to their mecha.

Mentioning Sun Vulcan after Alpha 5 was mentioned is funny cause I saw something years ago that suggested Rita and Zedd's relationship might have been inspired by Hedrian and Hell Saturn's "relationship" and how Hedrian would get so excited that she would bop Hell Saturn's head!

God I miss Soga. She was a godsend to tokusatsu. Loved her in Spielvan.

Agreed. It's thanks to her performance in Spielban that Queen Pandora is not only one of my favorite villains in Metal Heroes, she also happens to be one of my top favorite villains in all of Toku.

And then her appearing as Magiel in Magiranger was great. A shame she left us all early. Had she lived a little longer it would've been nice to see her appear in cons with the Zyuranger cast and stuff.

If you created a ninja Sentai, would you combine ninjas with animals/yokai & fruits?

If one did, hypothetically, it would be best to explore the science and history and pre-existing fiction in order to make it seem natural and predicated on a semblance of truth.

Were there known instances of ninja using fruits, be it in historical documentation or in popular fiction? Same with Youkai.

The scientific relationship between various fruits and animals most assuredly has documentation and is definitely worth exploring.

Kamen Rider Gaim combined fruits with samurai, knights, vikings and roman gladiators despite those things having little in common, I don't think it'd be any weirder or out of place for Sentai to create a fruit ninja animal team.
