He didn't stop Inoue then lol |
Inoue's writing?! Kinda hope he goes full Inoue. I'm curious what he could make of this lol
|
Am I understanding this correctly? Do we have the first ever male pink here? Yellow is the only "sister" by name at least.
|
Oh, man, this is the best Christmas gift, you guys. INOUE FOREVER! I will see you in the weekly Sentai chat in 2022! We're doing this!
|
CGI is really an inevitability with Sentai. It just makes sense. As a toku traditionalist I'm not crazy about it either, but I really think we're at the point of heavy CGI-laden Sentai or no Sentai at all, so I'll happily take the former.
Kids love CGI and think suits look silly. To a kid, an animated show is a GGI show. And they are all over the place selling tons of toys and merch. It would be mad for Toei to continue to spend so much money on a show when their competitors are competing with way less. |
I don't really think that hating someone for a spotty past of not-so-good writing is appropriate. I feel like I am one of the few people in the Tokusatsu Community who doesn't hate Kamen Rider Ghost.
I mean, Suzanne Collins wrote both "The Underland Chronicles" and "The Hunger Games" and you can tell how she improved a bit. At least she didn't leave as many plot holes and didn't leave as many loose plot threads at the end of "The Hunger Games" series as "The Underland Chronicles" (or at least, that's what I think. I haven't read "The Hunger Games" but I have listened to "The Underland Chronicles"). Anyways, Toshiki Inoue hasn't been the Main writer on Super Sentai since Jetman, he did write Episode 28 of Gokaiger, which was a Tribute Episode to Jetman. He also wrote all but Episodes 17 and 18 of Kamen Rider Kiva. Also, he wrote Kamen Rider ? Kamen Rider OOO & W feat. Skull: Movie War Core, the crossover movie of W and OOO, and Kamen Rider OOO: Nobunaga's Desire. So, we can't exactly complain. Anyways, saying that something will be bad because of the writer had a shakey writing history could work the opposite way around. One of the directors who directed the Harry Potter Movies also directed Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, and we all see how that went. Anyways, getting off that topic. I really like the designs of the Donbrothers. They look great. |

Going by his works, DonBrothers could be probably the most controversial Sentai show and might be a bit darker than recent Sentai show since he loves to includes drama, love triangle and a lot of people getting wet in the river in his shows. After all, this guy wrote Jetman and it was one of darkest Sentai show. But who know? |

Dunno how I feel about CG characters, especially black/inu. I'm into these designs though. Momotaro looks great! Plus I'm curious what a modern Sentai written by Inoue is like.
Consider me, I don't know, cautiously... interested? Or something. |

and here is the first combination- "Don ZenkaiOh!"
|
It still blows my mind that DonBrothers is a continuation of Zenkaiger. This is like In Space to Lost Galaxy on how LG started the borrowed Sentai tradition of a new team each series going forward but elements of In Space where in it.
|
I thought I was hardcore into tokusatsu, but... how do you know off by heart who the main writer of all these Kamen Rider shows are?! I remember Yasuko Kobayashi did Ryuki(which I didn't mind the Rider Time by the way), and Inoue was apparently a bit big in Kiva, but I don't think I do analyse production aspects of toku to that degree funnily enough!

It thematically fits Zenkaiger's world-theme to have a Sentai member show up from a place that is new to the audience, and I like that at least some characters will make a few appearances in the new show as well. |
Ugh, having a combo with the Little Tykes Tyrannosaurus means that it's combos with the actual team will be limited.
I hope there's a mecha combination that doesn't combine with any Zenkai garbage and contains elements from the DonBrother team. |

There's a certain Rider-like aspect to DonBrothers. Example: Ex-Aid and Ghost team-up and both obtain forms similar to each other by using a power-up based on their respective gimmicks, allowing last year's gimmick to maintain a sense of relevancy.
I also think that Pandemic-related distribution woes are a contributing factor in continuing the Sentai Gear theme. Can't say if the gimmick is actually good and well received in terms of sales. |

So I think it's difficult to not notice him eventually, he's just absurdly prolific While I can't say I'm a big fan if him personally, his level of influence on Rider is almost unrivaled, Shirakura may be the only person who's influenced Heisei Rider more lol I think Kobayashi might have made a similar impact when it comes to what tropes have stuck around, but idk if anyone has written as much modern Rider content as Inoue has, look up his writing credits in the Rider wiki it's almost unbelievable how much of original Heisei this guy wrote |

Especially since I think there's a whole lot of mixed opinion on a few of the examples you gave, Kiva and Movie War Core (I think, anyway. Haven't seen much of OOO yet.) So people can definitely complain if they want lol. Besides, I think the pervasive feeling of, "Oh shit, what's he gonna do next?" adds to the interest factor, whether you're looking forward to his writing or not. |
Just goes to show that people will never let anyone forget about something someone did 20 years ago, good or bad. We are in a deluge of information and history and it has created some very strange reactions.

sees Inoue is at the helm. this show is gonna be weird and it's either going to be a show that revolutionizes the Toku Genre or a complete grade A shitshow and there is going to be no inbetween

All in all, I don't have any sort of attachment to Inoue's writing since I've only seen Decade and Ryuki from Heisei Phase 1, but the most I can tell is that he likes making protagonists that act like jerks to everyone, but that description in and of itself is most likely false. So long as I enjoy the show on it's own merits, they can get anyone to write it. If anything, I just want the Zenkaiger cast to be faithful in their appearances. On another topic, the visor for MomoBrother looks somewhere between cool (Kamina shades) to just plain goofy, though I do love the gear for the topknot. |
Can we please get a video game with this season???
|
I do not know if anyone has noticed it or not, but the shin-pads on the boots of the rangers seems to be shaped after the playstation d-pad, so it makes me think if there?ll be any video game references or if the story itself will involve video games of some sorts.

So Kiji Brother. First male pink ranger ever. I guess they took hints from Kamen Rider Jin and testing it out for this franchise. I am imagining him as either Urataros 2.0 or a really cool and soft-spoken type for now. Curious as to who will voice him if they decide to use a puppet or suit actor or cgi.
|
To be clear, I am a fan of Inoue and Jetman is my favorite Sentai from that era.
But, yeah I didn't mean to disparage anyone wanting to speculate on an upcoming season. That's exactly what these forums are for. After seeing how much prior knowledge of writers can cloud people's judgement (like Saber, and a lot of Anime) I just feel bad for writers who are often expected to create 100% original works to satisfy the most demanding fans, when often they are hired to do exactly what they are known for. |
|
I didn't expect Kiji to be so tall.
|
Can this just be the standard team pose?
Like the fan, the way Kijibrother is performing the "how to talk to short people" stance. The way Onisister is presenting Donmomotaro like he's the best, the way Donmomotaro is just putting his leg on Sarubrother who doesn't even mind in the slightest. The existence of Inubrother at the base of it all. Perfection |

holy shit he's fucking tall and gangly, i don't know if i like that or hate it
in that particular shot though the cgi they used for kiji and inu doesn't look bad, it's pretty decent i think, could be the magazine scan quality affecting the look tho |

This is how they are written according to the scan:
Don Momotaro: Strong leader Oni Sister: Energetic girl(?) Saru Brother: The brains, meticulous Inu Brother: A bit mean Kiji Beother: Gentle and kind The question mark is part of Oni Sister's description. |
|
I know it's early to talk about the 6th but I think they might be Green just based this Zyuranger 16th Sentai Green 6th, Hurricaneger 26th Sentai Green 6th, Go-Busters 36th Sentai movie exclusive Green 6th, and now Donbrothers is the 46th Sentai.
