Gonna feel so weird at first...

Saw a rumor today that Gavan Infinity will be played by none other than Shunya Shiraishi aka Haruto Soma/Kamen Rider Wizard

where is the new gavan infinity toyline?

Neat that someone who was a hero will be playing the role if true, considering Ohba already earned his stripes in the genre with Super Sentai prior to Gavan.

Yep, they managed to keep close to the color schemes of their transformed states but doesn't feel blatant for a lack of better words. And Infinity's jacket looks baller. :rock:
Also, kudos to the casting director for finding these four to lead the show. :rock:

Luminous seems really interesting conceptually, really looking forward to hearing more about what their deal is.

Did they really need to keep the giant robots though? Are kids still interested in those things?

Yeah, this just looks like Sentai with a new coat of paint. Keeping everything that was still somewhat successful (Red, Silver, and Gold being the only heroes, giant robots) but mashing it together with stuff from modern Kamen Rider (collectible transformation devices) and the basic aesthetics of the Space Sheriff trilogy.

It certainly looks slick, but nothing about this feels new.

I feel like it has some aesthetic/conceptual similarities to Sentai but it'll mostly come down to execution. I think it's meant to be a spiritual successor to Sentai AND Metal Heroes.
The original Gavan had Mecha scenes, albeit a lot of those were in space. Toei probably needs to find a reason to use their miniature city sets anyways.
With maybe some Ultraman influence too.

Hmm... I do love the concept of the hero's weapon, changer, robot and vehicle/base all in one, among other things it's great play value for a single toy, and I actually think it looks pretty good in gun mode! But the robot and spaceship modes are currently the weakest part of the whole Gavan Infinity package in my opinion. Maybe they'll grow on me as I watch the show?

I'm... very mixed on this mecha system. On the one hand, Gavarion's robot mode, the individual vehicles and some of the ship mode combos look neat, but I really do think they're limiting themselves by making every single one double as a roleplay weapon. The satellite looking one is probably the worst with that massive trigger sticking out the bottom.

The combinations with Gavarion are so close to looking cool, but the arm attachments look far too big. I personally think some more partsforming could have helped them - I'd even take a Shinkenger-tier backpack if it made the arm look better.

At least I know they'll probably look way better in the show if nothing else.

I was hoping for a more substantial trailer with dialogue and exposition. It shows the characters from 3 Cosmo Layers, but it's a shame I had to read the bios to find out anything about them, whereas I'd usually read the bios to find out extra details.

Patrun may look like a robot, but he's actually a mechanical alien lifeform. Based on their bios, it kind of sounds like we're not supposed to love them anyway.

Not sure why this is a bad thing? I mean, people wanting more Sentai get something Sentai-adjacent, while Metal Hero fans get Metal Heroes. And for the giant robots, like, that was part of Metal Heroes since the start, so it's too late to claim that's a rip-off of Sentai now. Even Sentai got it from Spider-Man.

Huh! How could kids not be interested in giant robots? That's what got me in to Power Rangers and Tokusatsu in the first place!

Now that I think about it, maybe the "jo" part has a double meaning as emotion.

Pretty cool how Gavarion's chest LED changes depending on the Gattai. The names for the Gattais are dumb though, like, "&C" doesn't tell me anything about what it does. I guess I'm just going to call them Cosmo Gavarion [insert weapon here] which is easier to remember.

Cosmo Gavarion Saber reminds me of Sasword and Lazer reminds me of Kiramazin. Those are probably my favorites so far. Drill looks good as well. Not a fan of Crane though, the red/green contrast is too much.

My point is this doesn't really look like the brand new leap forward for tokusatsu that Shirakura wants to claim it is. He has said he wants to compete on the global stage with the MCU and Demon Slayer, but instead this just looks like a hodgepodge of what Toei was already producing. And yes, Metal Heroes had giant robots but Gavan had a cool freaking dragon whereas Gavan Infinity has a robot that would not look out of place from a standard Super Sentai.

Okay so here's the fun part. It's a lot of puns and wordplay. Because Japan loves that kind of stuff.

Well, Shirakura also said that the ambition of RED would become clearer in the second and third installments. Gavan Infinity seems like it's designed to acclimatize Sentai fans to the new franchise, rather than scare them off by being too different too quickly. Hence why a legendary title from another franchise was chosen to launch it.

Interesting. That's still a little dumb, but in a creative way I can respect. I'll try and memorize them.

I think it's important to keep in mind that financially it would be for the best if they could get as many existing Sentai fans on-board with the new series as possible, so I think GI specifically will indeed be playing it relatively safe before they shake things up more. Even Kuuga and Agito were modernizations of classical Showa Rider narratives before things started getting more experimental with Ryuki. So a more gradual change is within expectations given everything we know.

I think they're going to get an upgrade or auxiliary Mecha that is their take on Dol. At least I hope.

Can't blame ya for it. It is fairly monochrome in terms of its color scheme and looks very bare bones, so nothing really pops at first glance. I like it, but agree that it doesn't seem to have a unique flair element, design-wise.

I'm still not really sold on the Gavarion Trigger. I'm aware it's merely following the design philosophy that the Teagsword did, and so I guess I'll take my chance to air out a grievance I had with that as well:

Like yeah, I get that its extremely difficult to mash 4+ concepts into a single toy and then make it marketable.

But when the right arm literally just sits there for 2 modes and then rotates outward approximately 15 degrees for Robot mode... I feel like there was a bit more the designers could've tried doing.

Ultimately I think in Bandai's view, the main selling point of the DX toys is to be roleplay items with big lights and sounds features, articulation is not really much of a priority, with the Minipla and PlaDeluxe meant to fill in the market of those who want more articulation.

Anyway, I'm liking what I'm seeing, especially the Spaceships, please let there be space battles! I am also loving the Mech/Gun/Spaceship/Henshin item, which I am absolutely going to get at some point, since I'm loving these "mech is also the henshin item" deal Gozjyuger did (there are probably others but I'm too tired to think of any).

Now, while I do like the suits, I'm not a fan of the colored visors, probably because I liked how the Metal Heroes' eyes would shine through the visor which looked cool, but also, I just don't think they look that good to me. Also, Gavan Luminous looks like a bee to me for some reason.

Kinda wasn't that into the idea that they were all called "Gavan" since I've come to know Gavan as a character rather than a concept, but since this is a multiverse, even though I'm getting tired of those, I'll see how it plays out (The Super Gavan Combination would pretty cool to see).

My only worry is that there's still a bit of that "looks like Kamen Rider" energy to the trailers we have so far that I'm worried would lean too hard into. And I don't want Project R.E.D. to be seen as "we've got TWO Kamen Rider shows on at once!" so, we'll have to see how this and maybe one or two more shows after to see how they intend to differentiate this from Rider.

And with all the hints being dropped, we might have a full Super Hero Time block on Saturdays for (most) regions, which I'm kind of excited for! We will know in a few days.

The premiere is in less than 24 hours and we haven't heard a peep about a simulcast. I hope the fansub groups are gearing up.
