I have no doubt that they'll extend the MMPR series for more than just 3 movies, as with no Tommy in sight in either this trailer or all the info released so far, they're going to likely save him for the next movie (you don't make a MMPR adaptation and leave out the Green Ranger, that shit got everyone jumping). But are we really pretending they'll not do Zeo or (as much as I couldn't care less), Turbo? Making a Power Rangers movie now is likely because of a few reasons. The first one is that superhero movies are hot right now, so get in while the interest is there. The second reason, connected to the previous one, is that studios want what Marvel has, the whole connect universe approach. To do that, it would be best to show the other teams, not just MMPR. Otherwise, why have Rita mention other (dead teams) if all we're going to focus on are Jason and crew? Unlike Transformers, where it starts becoming like Gundam with newer series being either alternate realities or remakes of the original series (the Armada Trilogy, the Aligned Continuity, even the Animated series that was heavily based off of the movies). Transformers is a shit example, because most series have tried to either just be their own take on G1 (like IDW's comic run or Platinum's Transformers Devastation), or just not stray to far from what the loud fans want (no one wants a repeat of 'Trukk not Monkey!!'). I'm not saying that their going to adapt Dairanger fully and do a Power Rangers Go-Busters movie adaptation, I'm not that blindly hopeful, but if they're planning to make money off of this franchise and the first movie does well, staying to long on MMPR is going to be the stupid move. Most people are tired of seeing Spider-man's origin for the upteenth time, the Wayne's death is now literally a montage reel (since Gotham premiered), and staying too long with just the first season of Power Rangers characters would even be lying, since Rocky and the others replace Jason, Trini, Zack and Kimberly before to long. Also Transformers is directed by Bay, who blew up Cybertron (their god and home) and hasn't hinted once to Unicron, the guy who would fill in seats no matter how done people are with Transformers movies. Comparing the two franchises isn't fair or accurate. You'd have a better chance if you compared it to Star Trek, since there's no talk of them doing Next Generation or Deep Space 9 movie-wise so far. |
I think with the movie, they could improve on the original show like better character development on the heroes and villains. I think MMPR is a pretty bad written show. Watching the show now is like drinking rotten milk that has been left out for many years.
For future movies, I think they could have Lord Zedd and Master Vile as bigger and serious threats too. |

Powerman's right if this movie doesn't bomb like hell we'll just get more MMPR movies at best they'd eventually change the characters in the suits. Anyone thinking They'll make Zeo,Turbo,In Space whatever movies are deluding themselves. |
I hope we get at least movies for Zeo, Turbo and Space. Since in the original series those go along with MMPR to form a complete story. It just wouldn't be the same to me without it.
I doubt it'll happen though. |
I think the biggest problem with doing all the other series is that people will feel insistent they change up the cast. If this movie does well they certainly aren't going to just throw out three leads just because the source material deems it so.

I can see them adapting different seasons if it's popular, more toys to sell after all

The general public didn't know shit about Guardians of the Galaxy or Suicide Squad, but Guardians did great and Suicide Squad's fans both old and new still defend the movie regardless. People not knowing about the later bits of a franchise doesn't stop it from happening. As for changing the characters in the suits, doing so past Rocky and his group and not just making it Zeo would be stupid. People bitch when they change whoever Ironman or the Hulk is without even reading the comics, so it would be worse if a movie most people watch just chucked aside a kid to be the same Red Ranger each 2 or so movies if it's the same suit. The reason Hasbro and others focus on the first installment when adapting it is obviously because it's best to start at the beginning. The reasons why they don't go farther are different and varied depending on the quality of the adaptation. How much are the Michael Bay movies like G1 right now? (Autobots being hunted, no Autobot City, no mention of Unicron, Quintesson, Primus, so on). How similar is IDW's Transformers, now that Hasbro is going all shared universe with G.I. Joe and M.A.S.K.? Maybe I won't get my Time Force movie, but for this film to not make it to Zeo at the very least, it would have to be too shitty to continue on. Or are we forgetting that series like James Bond, Star Trek and Dr. Who thrive all the while getting new characters and actors regularly? |
