We have commercials like every 5-8 minutes in a show, sometimes even less than that. |

Well technically, the BBC does have advertisements – for itself. But they’re never aired when a programme is broadcast, just before and after it (if that makes sense). So, for example, an advert for, say, Holby City will air just before or after Doctor Who but not in the middle of Doctor Who itself. Quote:

Unless it's a Premium channel like HBO and Starz where you have to pay $20+ on your cable bill to acquire. Is that what BBC is like in the UK? |

Did anyone else not enjoy the Monks storyline? It started with that troll of the world's not real, then the whole fake world they created just so they could write the Doctor getting his sight back. It doesn't take much away from the season as a whole for me. I think they rushed the reveal on the contents of the Vault though. I would've liked a slow build through the season before revealing Missy, but what can you do. I love Billie, I love Nardo, I love them running off together without the Doctor. As much as I adore Capaldi's Doctor. But these last two episodes.. The perfect memory of Billie's mother saved the world? I think it's because I prefer DW stories where the villain is a little less meta. The two Smith episodes with Living Plastic the threat seemed real throughout. The Monks.. It all seemed, I don't know, manufactured? Am I making any sense? I hope so. I'm not saying they were bad episodes. I didn't hate them.. I just didn't like them.

I thought the first episode of this arc was really good with a nice twist at the end, but I found each subsequent episode to be more and more of a letdown. The monks didn't feel like a big enough threat to devote a quarter of the season to and the last episode felt really derivative of the Master storyline from season three. I mean, it wasn't objectively bad or anything, but this was definitely not the show firing on all cylinders.

Extremis was incredible. The other two parts were sadly lacking, and thus the weakest episodes of the series so far though. Probably didn't help that each part had a different writer either.
The Monks are the first new Who monsters I've thought had "staying power" for a while though. As in I'd definitely like to see them again. |
That was part of the problem for me though. We got no background, even when Missy said she had dealings with them before. Not where they come from, why they called us corpses (When asked why they look like them). The whole Missy involvement at all felt rushed.

LOL, Doctor Who - especially Moffatt’s tenure - is full of “noodle incidents”. An audio drama or a novel might expand upon the monks’ story?
What’s been everyone’s favourite episode of series ten so far? Mine is still Knock Knock. |
Yeah, finally watched the last episode and really didn't care for it... Especially when they figured out the cause of the brainwashing. Why not just take Bill... LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE... on the TARDIS?! It would break the link since the signal supposedly wasn't very strong and needed a ton of those statue antennae.

I think the best episode was The Pilot. It was the best introduction we've had in a long time, since Donna's first episode. |

Extremis is probably my favourite, followed closely by Oxygen.

Man, I cannot believe they got Ysanne Churchman out of retirement. Sure, it's total fanwank, but I nearly wet myself with glee when I heard her voice. (To be honest, I thought it was an amazing soundalike until the credits rolled.)

i must one of the few people that think ERIC ROBERTS should get a second chance as the master in audio dramas

I enjoyed the latest episode far better than the Monk Trilogy. Beautiful seeing the Ice Warriors return with a new Queen, and I think the Alpha Centarians are a return as well. Aren't they? I also think they brought back the actress who played the Racnoss in Runaway Bride for the Queen too. Their voices sounded identical to me. I love Billie too. It kills me she's only in for one season, I love a Companion who doesn't fall for the Doctor. I think the last was Donna. And seeing the Master out of the Vault, helming the TARDIS? Why yes I'll take more of that.

As for Iraxxa, she was portrayed by Adele Lynch, while the Empress of the Racnoss was Sarah Parish. I expect those prosthetic teeth probably do a lot to alter speech into similar patterns. They do sound quite alike in character. Quote:
As an aside, the tie-back to Tooth and Claw was nice. It may have been 11 years for us, but only two in the context of this week's episode. |
Wow. Not sure how I missed this. Big Finish (I love them so much!) has brought back Derek Jacobi, now called the War Master.

I'm extremely excited for this series. We lost John Hurt far too soon and I was worried that was going to be in for a proper range of Time War stories. I'm glad that there's still some way to continue it.

So uh, no spoilers since I know most of you won't have seen it yet but that was my favourite Doctor Who episode since Dalek.

Absolutely brilliant. I don't think there was one second of wasted time this episode. As with you guys, I will avoid any specific discussion until after it airs on BBCA.
|
Well, that was amazing. I loved the part where Peter Capaldi does the thing
|
This is looking to be the best finale we’ve had in years. I almost cried at the beginning (when the Doctor starts shooting off regeneration energy). :(
|
man. I getting sick of the regeneration energy. I mean since return it got rid of the unique randomness of the classic who. I would love one them again. I mean yes they would be unique but they also been and feel very much the same.
|
If what I’ve just read is anything to go by, Pearl Mackie is departing. Shame, I was hoping Bill would stick around for a bit. I really like her.
|
So we just watched episodes 8-10 and overall they were kind of meh.
The third parter to the monk story was kind of a let down. It wasn't bad, but the monks turned out to be a joke. The one on Mars was interesting and it was cool to see the Ice Warriors in modern day. As for the last episode I watched which had Romans and Scotts, it was kind of boring. I hope the two parter finale gives Capaldi the send off he needs. |
Would you like to see some distant shots (from behind a bush) of Christmas special filming? Shot that make it appear that in a surprise moment the Mirror was right! We are likely getting some First Doctor in the Christmas special. Look at those TARDISes! Look at that hat! Look at that cape! :D
I may be tearing up a bit. Source: (Spoiler Warning) Twitter |

Great finale, soured by two major complaints for me.
The Cybermen were just gloried props...again...for the third time in a finale. I thought Moffat had finally hit the nail on the head last episode, but now back thinking no one can write them any way other than marching cannon fodder. The use of the newer models was stupid too. Not just because it didn't make any sense, but because it highlighted just how awful they look compared to a design from the sixties. Also Bill's departure. While I have no problem with her escaping a cyber-fate (I wish she hadn't, but that was never going to happen), the fact they almost note-for-note rehashed Clara's exit was pretty ridiculous. The Pilot was the most ridiculous "get out of jail free" card I've ever seen. And people think RTD was bad. The scripting and characters were utterly superb though. The framing with Bill was brilliantly handled, and Simm/Gomez absolutely ruled the show. What an absolutely fitting exit for the both of them. Here's hoping the Master gets his nerve back next time he/she rolls around. ALSO CHRISTMAS IS GOING TO ROCK GUYS |
I'll agree with you on both notes Zeo, but with the caveat that those were pretty minor for me. Bill's exit being Clara, but right doesn't really bother me all that much- I'm more annoyed in that I see a romance between the two, but that might just be my inexperience in those matters meaning I'm not seeing it clearly. I was hoping for this to be a more character-y thing, and it was, wonderfully so. Much better than Hell Bent, and probably the best finale episode since Series 5.
