The last paper for my course is on how American culture can absorb and change aspects of media or culture from other countries.

I've decided to do it on Tokusatsu type things, and plan to touch on Godzilla as a franchise bouncing between America and Japan, Power Rangers as it's an adaption, and Pacific Rim which is basically an Americanized Kaiju film with obvious Japanese references.

Thoughts?

How about the fact that more and more cartoons are taking on an anime-inspired aesthetic and Netflix calls new cartoons 'an original Netflix anime series' (looks at Transformers Siege).

I hate the stupid scalping for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Some people can't wait another year when they have more in stock. Most new consoles were sold out for months when they were first released (PS2-PS4, Xbox 360, Wii, and Switch comes to mind).

So I put some of my autobots up on my shelves and I’ve run into the problem of “the majority of my autobots are deluxe class and thus similar height, so they block each other from view.” Anyone have suggestions on stair like shelves I could place on my shelf?

I've been using Ultra Pro 2-Compartment card boxes for years, and I love 'em. One box can be a small shelf and a medium shelf (if you separate the lid and the box), or a tall shelf (as one unit). They're deep enough to fit Deluxe to Voyager scale figures without bumping into each other, and the whole thing is super modular. (I'm currently using a bunch of lids, stood on end, to be a tall back row for a SO-DO display.)

Man, it really does highlight to me just how cooler a display Decepticons make, though. A lot less characters for individuals to get lost in; all the 'main' ones are Voyager; some great size variety beyond that and multiple iconic Combiners to truly make it pop. Compared to Autobots who are 90% a sea of deluxe cars. 'Cons forever!

I think the other thing that makes Decepticon displays look cooler is the color palette those characters tend to draw from. It's way more secondary colors (look at all of those greens and purples), which blend together with the neutral tones a lot more than a bunch of primary-colored characters do.

Looking at Ultra Pro's site, they've got a bunch of distribution through Europe... but nothing listed for the UK. But! There are a few listings on eBay, which means there's bound to be some domestic availability for you.

Here in the States, any card shop (sport or gaming) will stock and have access to Ultra Pro products. It may be worth reaching out to a local one and seeing if you can place a special order?

You would have to measure it out, but you can also buy acrylic spice racks or cupcake display stands.

For my smaller figures, I use an acrylic nail polish stand that I built upside down.

Also had a weird Kabuto dream last night (the second episode took place in America?), so I'm feeling like my brain is getting configured to start watching a new Kamen Rider show this week.

Went job hunting today. Can't stay a NEET forever.

Also my brain is starting to eat itself so I need to find something to do (read: get a job).

Found lots of companies willing to hire, but I'm a bit intimidated by the requirements they want. I'm willing to learn if they'll teach me but I'm still intimidated.

Also it's my first job so there's this fear of screwing up, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Maybe, possibly, hopefully. Ah well I'll cross that bridge when I get there. No point worrying about things that haven't arrived yet y'know? One step at a time.

Still trying to find a job. Job hunting is a lot harder than I expected! If anything this experience has made me much more grateful to my parents for being able to support the family. I'm sure I'll find a job eventually though.

To those of you trying to find jobs, I now know how you feel. Just keep your head up! And good luck.

It's definitely one of the most frustrating traps of the job market -- to get experience you need to work; but to work they want you to have experience. It's so, so annoying in the extreme and it meant it took me a while to get one.

One thing I can offer is that a lot of people offering jobs don't really know shit about technology and will be incredibly impressed by your ability to do, like, excel spreadsheets or whatever. That's something you can market the heck out of with yourself if you know what you're doing. And if you're not familiar with something you're one google search away from knowing more than them. That's my experience, anyhow!

That is an excellent attitude. Landing a job is mostly a mix of perseverance and luck, and you've clearly got the perseverance locked up. Just keep plugging away and you're bound to have some good luck. Very excited to hear about the job you get!

As Die said, that is an excellent attitude to have when job hunting, or honestly anything. That optimism and determination will pretty much get you through anything!

Also, word of advice, most places that ask for crazy requirements or have a long list of requirements, they're not really requirements. Those are things they'd prefer a potential employee to have, no ones a veteran trained employee straight off the bat. Your best bet is to apply to any and all jobs you want to apply to and just hope for the best, and if you don't get hired the first few jobs, keep applying, someone will definitely hire you. I was in a similar position 5 years ago. Out of highschool and no work experience. I saw lots of hiring opportunities but was scared and apprehensive to apply bc of the requirements. Then a friend of mine told me what i told u, did that for a couple weeks, got rejected loads of times, but then got hired at one of nyc's local tv stations. I had no experience in production work or anything for that matter. However, they trained me and gave me all the know-how to go from trainee to producer in 3 years. Oh and make sure to have individually tailored resumes for each job you apply to, those really help. Put any skills that you think would be applicable to the job, even, as Kurona said, you could put excel, spreadsheet, or any other basic computer skill, and that would give you an edge.

Keep up that can-do spirit and you'll definitely land a great job soon!
