Also, did anyone else think Power Rangers at all those Cybermen getting thrown around by explosions? It looked terrible.

The Master will be back regardless. He/she always is.
EDIT: Pretty interesting bit of trivia from the audio story Exile which totally came into play this episode. It is stated that for a Time Lord to change gender, the previous incarnation must commit suicide. I mean, it's not directly canon but it's still pretty neat if they thought of it. |
I liked the finale a lot, although I think some of the middle dragged a little. Sticking to the standard running time probably would have made it a tighter episode. I also feel that, for all the build-up, having two Masters on hand really didn't add a lot to the episode's overall plot, just some cute side scenes. Bill's departure being so similar to Clara's did occur to me, too, but I didn't hate it. I'd actually spent most of the episode wondering if Heather would show up for Bill since I had no idea how else they'd de-Cyber her.
Properly excited for Christmas, even if it means we'll be losing what has probably become my favorite modern Doctor. Speaking of which, now that the season finale has aired I expect we'll be getting the new Doctor announcement relatively soon. |
I haven't cried like that watching Doctor Who in a very long time. From almost start to finish, though at the end I was screaming in rage because now I have to wait until Christmas. Bill's ending was everything Clara's wasn't.. you know, really freaking good.

Also another thing to note is that the Twelfth Doctor mentions Marinus as a place where the Cybermen haven "risen" naturally. For those who aren't "up to date" with the classic era, Marinus is the homeworld of the Voord which were featured in the First Doctor's era. However, in a comic strip for the Sixth Doctor called The World Shapers, the Sixth Doctor, Peri, Frobisher, and an elderly Jamie McCrimmon (who, by using a technique the Second Doctor taught him, remembers his adventures with the Doctor) find that the Voord have taken a Worldshaper to quick-evolve themselves, turning into Cybermen as they gradually replaced themselves with cybernetic parts. When the elderly Jamie sacrifices himself to destroy it, it creates an explosion that accelerates time and the Sixth Doctor and his companions return to find that a million years of geological development had occurred straight after the explosion and transformed Marinus into Mondas.
For obvious reasons, the canon of the comic was put into doubt as it contradicted other sources and wasn't really absolved. Until the Twelfth Doctor mentions Marinus. So do you think that The World Shapers is partially canon (except for the whole Marinus evolves into Mondas since the Twelfth Doctor names them as separate places where the Cybermen evolved)? I think maybe since the Doctor mentions Planet 14, Telos, and Earth (Pete's World/Cybus Cybermen) as other locations where the Cybermen had risen and they are key locations that are relevant to the Cybermen throught Doctor Who's history. https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net...20120926172553 |
Why does the Tardis sound like someone repeatedly trying to start a car and flooding the engine?

It looks like the new Doctor will be announced Sunday, per an ad on BBC One that doesn't seem to be online yet.
|
It's on the DW Facebook page, but I'm not sure how to go about linking that directly :lol
Try this? Was hoping that they'd manage to keep it a surprise until Christmas, but I guess that's too much to ask for these days. Looking forward to seeing who they've chosen. |

It looks like it's up on Twitter, too, for anyone interested. https://mobile.twitter.com/bbcdoctor...07569696440320 It seems like it's up on unofficial YouTube pages, too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkpzmA9G9MY |
Is Kris Marshall still favourite by a long shot? I remember when Capaldi was announced we all pretty much knew beforehand but I haven't really paid much attention to it this time around.

Oh wow I would definitely be down for Luke Treadaway. Far moreso than Marshall.
|
I'm more familiar with Marshall, mainly from Death in Paradise. But, I'm not keen on having him in the role. Treadaway seems a pretty popular choice from the comments I've read.

Squee, so excited! :D

We finally watched the two parter finale and it was nice to see them do something different with the Cybermen. It was odd to see the old bag head versions though. The stars of the show were hands down Missy and the Master. Good god every scene with those two was comedic gold. The stuff with Bill was sometimes good, sometimes bad. Although, I called her Martha 2.0 back when the season first started and yep, I was right as she was only here for one season. At least she did have some good moments.
The final scene with the red wedding dude/Harry Potter janitor was shocking though. He looks just like the first Doctor. The season as a whole was a mixed bag, which is Capaldi's entire run in a nut shell. This is quite saddening though as the man was a fantastic Doctor and added a new dynamic to the show. What is even more depressing is that they will probably pick some model looking dude to play the Doctor to appease the fangirls that hated Capaldi because "he was old." |
And so, the new Doctor is revealed:

Cross-post from TFW:
So it is a woman. I know this is going to be a breaking point for some people, but I'm fine with it. Between Whittaker and Chibnall, series 11 is going to feel very different and I'm excited to see how it turns out. If you are one of those viewers who's upset and going to boycott the show over this... I get it and I hope you'll come back someday. On the upside, you'll never have to complain about people demanding a female Doctor after this. Also, in b4 this is somehow Moffat's fault. |
Glad I'm taking next season off.
|
Kudos for the BBC for actually doing it. I understand how much this means to a lot of people and I'm glad it's just not wishful thinking for you any more.
It's going to an interesting season that's for sure. |

Not surprising, in the eleventh hour (no pun intended). She shot to the top of the betting yesterday and has worked with Chibnall for a while. I'm keen on a fresh take for the show, even if I'm not a massive fan of hers.
I still wish it had been Atwell. :D |

I’ll admit that I myself was a bit on the fence about a female Doctor, but watching Michelle Gomez as Missy these last few years completely won me over! I enjoyed her performance so much that I consider her to be my favourite Master―even more so than the character’s original actor, Roger Delgado. I took to Missy immediately, so I’m sure I’ll warm to Thirteen as well<3

For me, I'm burnt out on the show after the last 4 seasons ended up leaving a more "meh" taste in my mouth than I initially thought they did. As such, I had already decided that I would be taking off from watching the next season as it aired and just watched it at a later time regardless of who was chosen. Now for the doctor being a female, I feel like this was the safest choice. Or rather, this actrress was the safest choice. Why not go with a woman Capaldi's age? Do a woman that is not the age where males are only going to watch it because, "She's pretty." I also feel like completely changes the character and the show's history. The Doctor is meant to be a fatherly figure (sometimes even a grandfatherly one), so there is more to the character that makes the gender matter. It is one of his traits that defines his character. Would you want to see Scrooge changed to a woman? What about Alex in A Clockwork Orange? Then there are female characters that are the same that wouldn't work if they were changed into a male character. Wonder Woman, for example. What if they turned June Cleaver into some buff 19 year old? If they needed to do a female Doctor type show, why not give River her own show? Why not do a show about a different Time Lord? Why change a character who has been a male for over 50 years? Well whatever. I'm done. Good luck and good night. |
see im on same boat as i am not happy that to me BBC feel in the PC brigade and gave use a female doctor. but to the fact the new show runner always planned it what makes me wonder. ok i see that capalidi was the start of new set of regeneration. but for me it now makes me think. is the rest of the regeneration of the new set going to be female or will it switch each time.

Once again, I'm hyped for the new Doctor. I already can't wait for Series 11, whatever it may bring. I just hope Whittaker gets the scripts and stories she deserves.

Excited for the new Doctor, don't really see a problem with a woman playing the character .
