Well, and I need someone to remember for me, but when did Absolute Tartarus' trademark drop?
Cause I remember that dropping a while before we found out about UGF:TAC and Regulus could very well be fore a new Ultra Galaxy Fight given that the last one ended on a "Yes we're making more" note. |
Yeah, if it's regal naming; then that immediately brings "The Kingdom" to mind
|
The first of Trigger’s merch has been released.

What do you guys think about the first episode of Ultraman Trigger, The New Generation Tiga? For me, those fight scenes are awesome for the 55th Anniversary. Hope and pray the 2020 (2021) Tokyo Summer Olympic Games won't interrupt TV Tokyo schedule unlike the Super Hero Time on TV Asahi unless... Oh well, let's pull the trigger!!!
|
So, as someone who's only experience with Tiga is via osmosis, this was a pretty solid start. I feel like I need more time with the characters but we've already got quite the interesting set up.
The fight was a highlight for me though, bringing back that specific camera movement from Z Episode 6, the rain and mud fight scene, and the fact that we EXPLODED A MONSTER SUIT!!! I love those kinds of explosions where they just explode the monster suit itself and chunks go flying! It's the best! That being said my higlight isn't with Trigger, it's the fact that the Galaxy Rescue Force Drama's... are subbed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wH77-FIik8A |
Good first episode! I liked the mars setting, but it seems like we're going back to earth, a tiny bit disappointing.
Seems as though that Trigger himself is going to be a silent character? Or we're going to get a "Kengo is Trigger now!" type of deal? Kengo... uh...he's fine. I never got a strong first impression from him unlike Haruki, he had like two stand-out lines that aren't much. "I want make flower bloom" and "I want make people smile!" Which is not bad, but is not stand-out is all. His "Smile, smile!" gave me a weird reaction. The toys sounds are meh. Take the most regular english man and have him say the name of the form lol. I find it neat that the Dark Giants can shrink, that's cool. It means I get to see more of Camilla's suit :lol. I paused the video multiple times whenever she's on-screen just so I can "Oooh!" "Aaaahhh!". You can slap hearts on my eyes now. |
1st episode of Trigger out and very fast paced episode lots of excellent camera works and effects. The return of actually blowing up Kaijus and that mud fighting though. Did not expect them to just straight up see Tiga this early.

Really not a fan so far; pretty much confirmed my worst fears in regards to how they're doing a "New Generation Tiga". Hoping the second episode is more interesting
|
(So are we just not doing a specific thread for Trigger then? Z finally had one that was stickied and everything!)
At any rate, everything about this show really appeals to my love of, well, of Kamen Rider Kuuga, considering I haven't seen a whole lot of Tiga, to say the least. This wasn't the most stunning Ultraman premiere I've ever seen or anything, but this seems like it will be a real fun show for me. Ancient warriors and heroes fighting for smiles are just a good mix, what can I say? |
SHF Trigger and Camilla when, though?
Bandai? |

Okay the GRF voice drama is bursting with personality; that was a bunch of fun! Looking forward to that every week

I'm convinced the lady is just an Ultraman simp who doesn't quite know how to show affection so it's just violence
I like the fusion monster just being one laid on top of the other. This was an okay starter. Seen better, seen worse. |
Why did it double post.
|
Nothing mind-blowing, but a solid premiere. I'll miss having an Ultra with a personality like Z. Very interested to know about the Chairman apparently being from another universe.
|
Ufff... Wow... Yeah, that wasn't good. Saw someone compare it to two episodes edited down into one and... Yeah, absolutely this.
Nothing has room to breathe and I have no idea who Kengo even is as a person. The pacing is atrocious, rushing from one plot point to the next like it's a race, no matter how choppy and unnatural the dialogue sounds and feels. And worst of all, no one feels like a human in this, just puppets dancing to the plot. A protective mother figure, telling Kengo to run even if she is just falling down that has no problem with him being given a gun and trying to fight the monster? Wha!? Kengo just goes along with the gun thing without really questioning any of it and so on. Nothing feels even slightly believable in here. And mars isn't really properly set up and explored before we immediately ditch it for the earth in the second episode... Like, I was slightly worried with how much it wants to be the next Tiga and this episode only worsened my fears... |
I wasn't as invested with this as I was with Z, but this is only the first episode and the first episode of Z is so-so anyway. I was immediately tickled by Kengo for "emulating" Go-On Yellow with the "Smile, Smile"! I also feel like Kengo is the "Botanist Ultraman", and that's not a bad thing either. The battle with Golba felt like it had a lot of CGI, and it reminded me of Dino Force Brave/Kyoryuger Brave. I'm mostly impressed by what they were able to accomplish cause this had to have been filmed during COVID, and Japan is still reeling from that. I hope fence-sitters take that into account. I see this starting slow for reasons, but I expect it to pick-up with time. It has its moments and I'm not scared that this will fail to meet expectations.
|
Wow. Those drone cam shots really do wonders. I mean it really works well because of the physical scale between the giants and the surroundings, even better here than sentai and rider shows. Kengo I like so far for being the nice kid who is not chicken to face danger. That said, I was thinking had they made the first episode be a typical day in the GUTS Select team where they showcase Trigger's basic gimmicks on Earth, this could have easily worked as episode 2 further explaining how Kengo became Trigger as well. Not that it should, but I think it could have worked that way as well.
|
It was a rather standard first episode but not bad. The setting on Mars was quite interesting, took me by surprise too since I didn’t follow any announcements or trailers for this show.
I think it'll get better once more of the supporting cast is introduced. |

They're really going in on the New Generation Tiga theme. It even has the kids yelling ULTRAMAN TRIGGER at the beginning. Or maybe that's just for the first episode. Which was a good first episode! I wasn't blown away or anything but I enjoyed it. Kengo seems like an alright guy. I'm sure naming the plant he created after the city that Cthulhu lives in isn't foreshadowing or anything. Having the show start on Mars is cool and is actually more of a Dyna thing than a Tiga thing. It's a shame that like most Toku shows, Trigger ends up on Earth by the second episode. It gave us some cool visuals though. So the chairman guy is from another Universe or something? He knows about Tiga and other Ultras. Interesting?! Carmeara is hot. Carmeara and Trigger Mud Wrestling is very Sakamoto. |

As for Trigger’s first episode, it’s a nice change of pace to have us start with the human after two seasons started with the Ultra. And I also like that he’s just a normal guy who decides to join the fight, rather than someone who would’ve been in the fight anyway getting superpowers. I’m more fond of that kind of Ultra host personally. |
Tiga, Dyna and Gaia are also going to be DVD releases.

So we're closing off the final months of 2021 with the TDG set of Ultra Shows? Not bad.
|
Ooh, nice!! I was wondering if they'd get to even just Tiga this year, but the whole trio is AWESOME!
|
I forgot about the "Japan is fifteen hours ahead of us" thing, so I just saw the episode today instead of last night. I still need to catch up with Saber and Zenkaiger.
That being said, I liked it, not as great of a first episode as some of the other recent Ultra shows, but still enjoyable. Maybe it's just the pacing, but I don't think it was that bad. Now, I'm usually not too into these "Chosen One" heroes, but since it's a recurring theme in the Ultra series, and you can usually see why they're chosen, and since Kengo loves plants which is a very pure kind of trait, makes sense. And I'm guessing when the plant blooms it will be either pretty or turn into some cosmic horror (Remembering some other Ultraman episodes involving plants). I love the Mars setting, and I hope they use it as a recurring location, because I wanted to see Ultraman travelling to other planets in a season for a long time. Also hoping for some more backstory on it. I love the reimagined designs for the Dark Giants, and the Golza Melba fusion, which is interesting that the Chairman knows about Ultraman and the others. Now I haven't seen Tiga yet, but I can see similarities with the first episode. And the fight scenes are always fun to watch, more so with Tsuburaya playing with camera angles and such. Overall, I'm interested in seeing how this goes as I like what I'm seeing so far. Thinking about it, it's going to be something to see how this compares with Kamen Rider Black Sun, on how a dark reimagining with a modern new gen Tiga... |

First episode of Trigger was pretty good. Not completely sold on the protagonist with his obviously plastic plant and "Smile smile" catchphrase, but I don't find him especially off-putting. I kinda get Touma vibes off of him, actually. The only part that was really weird for me was the part where the old guy and Kengo's mom were all "here, kid, take this gun and go fight the kaiju by yourself; you got this." I get the sense that there will be more to reveal about this, though. Looking forward to episode two and the full introduction of GUTS.

And his mom, well, she was just believing in her son I guess? |
I think the episode is pretty clear about Kengo's mom also being in on at least some of what's going on, especially considering things like how she immediately recognizes that Trigger is Kengo.

Mill Creek put up a schedule of their remaining Ultra releases for the year (sans Gridman) -- and aside from being a nice overview, it also gives us specific dates for Dyna and Gaia!

Yeah it's basically guaranteed we'll be getting Cosmos, Nexus, Max, and Mebius next year.

They still have at least a years worth of stuff to release. Hopefully the can negotiate rights for newer series and other stuff they missed like English language series, animated movie, the Hensei Ultraseven series and the older compilation movies. I imagine the Final Odyssey release will work out too eventually.

I've been rewatching Orb lately and I had forgotten how amazing the Galactron episodes are.
