Josh Trank totally has a hot girlfriend, too. But you don't know her. She lives in Canada.

especially Tyson. I don't think he even has the voice of "IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME!" |

They might not be actors, but in the highly improbable scenario in which Bill Nye and Neil DeGrassse Tyson are cast as Reed Richards and Ben Grimm, respectively, they could very easily prepare for the roles. After all, we don't necessarily know the full extent of their acting abilities. |

If they'd have to modify Tyson's voice in the first place just to justify him being the Thing, I'd rather they didn't have him cast in the first place.

Again, this is a completely hypothetical scenario that, in actuality, would probably never happen. I just think it'd be cool to have actual scientists play the Fantastic Four. |
Wait, where are you getting that Chicklis had to have his voice altered? There were several instances where he complained how hoarse his throat would get doing the Ben Grimm voice.

But if that's the case, and Chiklis was just doing a voice, then Tyson could just as easily do that, too, in this hypothetical and improbable scenario in which Neil DeGrasse Tyson takes time out of his very busy schedule to act in a superhero movie alongside Bill Nye. |
Well, to be fair, everyone has a different vocal range. Just because Chiklis is able to produce a certain voice, there is no guarantee Tyson would be able to. Also, while I like the idea of getting people involved in film who understand the fields presented, this idea seems to undercut the whole point of actors. And, personally, I've never been a fan of stunt casting. I like the enthusiasm, though. :D

i just want big rubber suit Ben.
that is the best Ben Grimm. I don't care how many people tell me CGI is better, I want big rock suit practical effect Ben, saying it's clobberin' time (NOT BECAUSE OF HIS BROTHER BEATING HIM UP! that's stupid!) and blessin' his sweet Aunt Petunia. also, Michael Douglas worked because it established Ant-Man and gave us a reason to just jump to Scott Lang, who in my opinion, is the Best Ant-Man incarnation. you're never gonna get a Fantastic 4 movie without Ben and Reed. (especially not Ben since the Thing is probably the most popular of the Fantastic 4.) but what I would like is do what the comics did, and use the characters like they've already been established, and then go back and do the backstory. there's too much backstory for the 4 and Doom to just make a movie that introduces all of them faithfully. |
Didn't Fox reboot the F4 to avoid losing the rights to the series? They should have let the rights go back to Marvel.
|
especially after the mess that is the reboot movie.
I've heard the RT score is LOWER than Pixels. |

Having trouble introducing a Doom who isn't In his late-50s? Just say that he was lost in the Negative Zone 20 years prior. Or have him already established as Latveria's dictator in the modern day. It's a comic book adaptation. There are ways to make it work. |
again, I'd rather they just stick to the original 4.
I like the fantastic 4 because of the original 4, not because of the extra members. I wanna see Ben Grimm kicking ass, yelling it's clobberin' time, and loving his sweet aunt Petunia. also, are there any standalone comics for The Thing? I've pretty much only liked the Fantastic 4 because of him. I'm a little ashamed to admit. |

The team has always been public, it's one of their main traits, for your take to work it'd have to be changed, like Pym's stint as Ant-Man, not a bad thing per se, but definitely a new take. |
I'd just rather they be already established, but not old.
honestly, they could play it off like Tony says "I know who to call" cut to the Baxter building and Reed says "been wondering if you'd give us a call" and then Tony chimes "yeah, I don't know what happened." |

Any time a film or any other piece of merchandise/media is created with this kind of handicap it's bound to be of poor quality. Making something simply because you have to does not result in a quality project. It results in the mess Fox has given us. |
With the right people and the right ideas it could still have been great. I had hope in this movie right until its release date. It's too bad it crumbled so badly.
|
Marvel Studios and Fox HATE each other. They've been arguing over character rights for some time and the release of "Fant4stic" demonstrates how bad their relationship has become; Fox would apparently rather hold the characters over Marvel's head than try & discuss an honest deal for the properties.
Hell, FOX shoehorned Quicksilver into "Days of Future Past" mostly to spite the MCU after Whedon announced him & Wanda for "Age of Ultron." |
How can a relationship be so petty? It is not in the best business interests of either company to do this. They are not acting in the best interests of their investors.

Let's say the Fantastic Four became active in the 1970s, initially as a covert expansion of the Space Race. They're active for a decade or so, then retire from superheroics in the mid- to late-1980s/early 1990s. In that time, Reed and the gang devote their time to the advancement of science, and launch the Future Foundation for that very purpose in the early-2000s or mid-2010s. It'd require some finagling, but the history of the MCU isn't developed enough to complicate it too much. |

Fox set up a release date for the F4 sequel in 2017 before the movie was released. I think Fox had their hopes on the movie way too high. I think the bad word of mouth is really going to kill the movie quick.

EDIT: Just found out Fox took the previous FF movies from online streaming services. All just to drum up money for their terrible FF movie. Just fuck Disney, Marvel and Fox for this mess. I'm not going to lie to myself and say they only care about money now but geez, I'm surprised by how childish this whole thing is. |
So there's rumors that Fox studios resources that were going to Fant4stic 2 is now going to a Deapool sequel.

Took almost 30 years for Howard the Duck to be no longer the lowest rated Marvel film on Rotten Tomatoes.

I wonder if Fox is wishing they had sold the rights back to Marvel right now?:lol
|
It's hard to say. Fox might not be hit too badly by this. It just depends on what its box office will be, especially after all the international receipts have been rounded up. If Fox sees the Fantastic Four as no longer commercially viable, then maybe.
But if it still makes a decent amount of cash, they may be less inclined to change the status quo. |
Even if the movie does decent enough at the box office, I don't think a sequel will happen. The movie is getting pretty dislike by fans, critics and general movie goers. If people don't like the first movie then I doubt time and effort would be put into a sequel. There are movies in the past that did well at the box office, but never got a sequel due to the bad word of mouth that they got.
|
To me, it seems pretty unlikely for a sequel to happen too.
This whole thing just makes me very sad. I was just so hoping for it to be good, or at least competent. If they want to change the source material, fine, as long as they make an interesting movie out of it. The worst part of this whole debacle is how difficult it would be to greenlight any Fantastic Four movies in the future. Wasted potential. |

That's interesting. Do you have a link to their statement blaming Trank? I'd like to read it.
