You can make a case for either

It has its own logo

It technically has its own theme song

It had its own dvd sets for the volume releases i.e Shout Factory distinguished MMPR Season 3 separate from Alien Rangers

Netflix considers it it’s own series (which is probably how Saban Brands gave it to them


On the other hand

The Alien Rangers is part of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Complete Series Boxset

Iirc the television broadcast still used “Today on the Mighty Morphin Power
Rangers” for the entire saga.

Mighty Morphin', Super Ninja Steel, and Beast Morphers are likely to remain on Netflix for the foreseeable future, but that's the extent of what is largely known.

Combined with absolutely zero word on Sentai DVDs (beyond a very weird idea for a tweet last week), Hasbro really doesn't seem to want to approach the topic of physical media with a 10-metre long stick. It's a shame really, it was one of the positives of power rangers.

How often does PR add jokes to Super Sentai Fight Scenes where there were non before or not talking at all? That's my one worry with Dino Fury. Except for a few occasions they don't really joke during their fights in Ryusoulger.

Very often. PR fights tend to be alot more dialogue heavy than SS ones.

That what I was afraid of. It's going to be a really hard match for Dino Fury. Their too busy attacking, jumping around, and getting slammed into walls and the ground to even look like they are talking

Granted, I've never seen Ryusoulger, but really that just sounds like it's par for the course.

It's definitely different. I went back and looked at the different fight scenes from past PR and Super Sentai shows . Ryusoulger is definitely more brutal in their fight style. Has to be because it was directed by a Kamen Rider director.

Brutal isn't the right word. Ryusoulger has a certain level of Intensity I haven't seen that much in PR or Super Sentai. I just Hope that Intensity is still there during Dino Fury

Do we have any word yet on when the 2nd half of Beast Morphers season 2 is supposed to hit Netflix? You'd think they'd wanna do it sooner rather than later what with Dino Fury being just on the horizon.

Ryusoulger was trying to be a LOT of things. It wanted to be Kyoryuger and Gingaman and Zyuranger and Hurricanger all at the same time and got nothing out of it. They were right back at square one in terms of sales if I recall, meaning they made the same amount of money as LuPat and not more or less than that. I mean the show had its moments; I love Bamba/Ryusoul Black, I love the art direction, and I love seeing Kanalo fail every time he tries to be a hybrid of Aquaman and Prince Akeem, but boy was it hard to like this show in general. It was Ninninger all over again for me.
Why? Because it was so obvious that they were trying to recover the sales drop that happened with LuPat, the same sales that was on the rise again after Ninninger's abysmal sales thanks to Zyuohger and Kyuranger. I mean talk about being desperate, they deliberately recycled the dinosaur motif AND the color palette of the six rangers from Kyoryuger(which is still the top contender when it comes to sentai domestic toy sales). THEY. WERE. DESPERATE.

Ryusoulger had some Badass Fights, that's why I like it. Could give a Rat's ass about any of that other stuff.

That's why I'm also looking forward to Dino Fury. Btw, How does the Nick app work? Will I be about to watch Dino Fury for free with ads on Feb 20th? If not I'll just find another way.

Shout Factory has their Hasrbo titles going out of print (As seen with their Transformers titles). Makes me wonder if their contract with them is over.

Would be depressing if true. It was nice to finally see some Sentai get brought over here out of this franchise, but I guess they're just not that interested anymore...

That is a damn shame if it's true. Shout was great for DVD releases of both PR and Sentai. I hope Hasbro either renews the contract or continues the practice either through themselves or another company.

That's not a stupid question. I'm sure there are plenty of people here who don't know either. (including me. then again, I live under a rock, so...)

As I understand it, they are different licenses, it was just that Saban had contracted Shout to sub Sentai specifically.

Does anyone have any strong feelings about the Power Rangers comics? As I've said before, I'm not really that attached to the franchise, but also don't feel poorly about it either. A couple of years ago, I played some game on the PS4, and I was super engaged with the idea of alternate universes, so I thought I might look at the comics, only I was a bit put off by the art style and the digital colours.

Is this a case of me being a curmudgeon, and writing something off for its aesthetic values, when there's actually a deep story to be found? I'd quite like a read with deep lore right now, as I sort of sense that Zenkaiger will not fill that need for me, but I must admit I am intimidated by how many of these comics there seem to be also.

I don't know, I'm casting about for opinions before committing to reading in order to try and judge the general lay of the land from people who are fans of the franchise.

As far as I can tell, the comics were fairly popular until about a certain point (the storyline that got turned into the game). After that, there’s a lot more heated discussion on the quality.

Personally, I loved almost the entire run of both Go Go and MMPR. As for how the general fanbase feels, it was praises all around until the Shattered Grid crossover ended, which is also when head writer Kyle Higgens (willfully) dropped out. After which opinions tend to be more split, especially since the story arc that followed was another crossover that was alot less grand in scope (Beyond the Grid).

As for where you should start, it depends. If you wanna start at, well, the beginning, as well as having something a bit more light-hearted, I'd say start with Go Go Power Rangers which begins right at the start of the show and focuses almost entirely on the Core 5. With the run ending just a little bit past where Tommy joins the team.

Meanwhile, if you're looking for something a bit more on the darker end of things, start with Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers which starts literally right after Tommy joins the Rangers and ends a little ways into MMPR Season 2. While Tommy does end up taking center stage after a little bit, it's nowhere near as bad was what some fans like to exaggerate.

tl;dr Yes, please read both of those comics. I love them.

Thank you so much for this and for the thoughts about where to start, and for basically giving me the necessary push—I am opting to start with the lighter stuff, but I notice there was a Justice League crossover by Tom Taylor too?! I don't really read superhero books, but I really liked the way Taylor portrayed Constantine in Injustice, and this kind of crossover absolutely plugs directly into the kind of fic I want to write.

It's a fun crossover! I'm not exactly sure how someone not atleast decently into both properties would feel about it, but I liked it. The TMNT crossover was also alot of fun to read. Definitely recommend that one!

So im just getting to watch the beast morphers crossover trilogy on netflix. A pretty fun affair all in all. The mega cgi zord battle was an odd sight. Too bad Jason didnt get a little more to do.Were there any uncredited voice actor returns? Ethan and Kira sounded possible?

Brennan Majia(Tyler/Dino Charge Red) confirmed that the Green and Pink Dino Charge Rangers were voiced by thier original actor. Everyone else is either a new voice or stock audio.

Yes, and Hasbro does own both in NA from what I've been told. Hasbro owns the NA license to both of them similar how HG owns both Macross and Robotech in NA. August Ragone (Who works in the film and TV industry) mention that Shout Factory had to get approval from Saban first to release Super Sentai in the states, and they were lucky to be cool with it.

Where is Hasbro regarding Saban's accreditation and the allegation(s) surrounding him, like the ol' Sarah Brown controversy?

Hasbro generally doesn’t care what goes on with their actors or creators. Unless they go to jail for it.

The implications of what Brown alleged suggests that Saban should've been in prison years ago, but statute of limitations being what it is makes that virtually untenable (unless there is some small codicil of legalism I'm missing).
