This season though, feels real up and down so far. I didn't watch the newest episode, despite it being thoroughly ruined through a number of headlines, so I can't speak to that one yet. But, like, the premiere had a great Master performance (that dude had the only good scene in the first season of Iron Fist, perfect choice for The Master) and a villain plot that really lost itself, that "Orphan 55" story has got to be the most infuriating episode I've ever seen, if not the worst, and the Tesla episode had some fun ideas but also was a little derivative. Like, maybe I'll feel differently about it in a year and I look back, and they've got a whole lot to go this season that could be amazing, but so far it's not super doing it for me this season. |

No arguments here about Orphan 55; I still think Kerblam was worse, but this really continued a trend of "we have a good message but we don't know how to actually convey it so we'll just have the Doctor tell you what it is" that's been frustrating me with these two seasons. The Tesla episode reminded me of some of the best parts of Rosa (being very honest and informative; giving a lot of sympathy to a real historical figure and what they were going through) with the worst parts of the Witchfinders (terrible eyeroll-y monsters that take away from the really good drama). On the whole though? Really liked it. I dunno, this season actually has me enjoying Doctor Who in a way I haven't in a very, very long time. I could point to a few individual Capaldi episodes that made me feel the same way but a whole season hasn't felt this good since 2010. I probably shouldn't judge too early, but again, this is hitting a lot of the right beats for me. Now if only they can give Yaz something to do... |

... M-maybe next season? |
Doctor Who since 2005's Rose has been strong and solid as a whole. Honestly I felt the show has grown better over the years ( weak moments aside).

That was, um, interesting--

Thanks to a pick up of the US exclusive Annimatiin Collection set I recently saw the lost story from Series XVII by Douglas Adams Shada Parts 1 - 6 uncut. (2 and ah half hours run time)They used annimation to fill in what wasn't filmed. I also picked up a colorized version of the 2nd Doctor 6 part story Power Of The Daleks. Also included were the 10th Doctor specials The Infinity Quest with Martha Jones and Dreamland.

I remember picking up the Shada book when it came out and reading through all of it. It's difficult to recall everything that happened as it was a while ago, but I remember just adoring it

I started watching the 2nd Doctor story The Power Of The Daleks Parts 1 - 6.

With the release of HBO Max, every season of the 'New Who' which started in 2005 is available on a single platform.
With that in mind, if someone were interested in seeing the best Dalek stories around, which episodes in particular would one recommend? If you don't have a complete each-episode-by-each-season list, do you have recommended favorites or a link to a good article resource on this topic? |

Kurona's hit the general fan consensus on the head - Dalek is universally loved, and for good reason.
If you're after more a show of action and spectacle than a Dalek character piece, "The Stolen Earth / Joruney's End" is probably the next one to go for, but that one occurs as a series finale, so it also has a lot of returning stuff which is great if you've watched the four previous series, but less so otherwise. In the last decade, I'm a fan of Resolution, last year's special which does a similar thing of Dalek, what with focusing on a single unit, but also works to be a character piece for one of the current companions. It's not as universally loved as the two above, but I really like it. Plus, I don't want to purely recommend stuff from just one era! As for all the stuff inbetween, umm... Day of the Doctor has Daleks! And that's cool! (It's definitely not a Dalek episode, but when it's up against Asylum, I'll take it) |

It wasn't like, the most groundbreaking story or anything; but it was such a fun, thrilling adventure all throughout. It has this very epic, grand scale to it especially with the story at the start that I don't think many if any Doctor Who episodes have managed to capture for me. Easily one of my favourite New Years/Christmas specials! |
Avoid "Daleks in Manhattan"/"Evolution of the Daleks" at all costs.

Dalek (s1) Army of Ghosts/Doomsday (s2) Asylum of the Dalek (s7) The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar (s9) (arguably more of a Davros story, but it's easily the best Davros story since the original) Resolution (s11) |
The current run from the 13th Doctor will ship on Friday .
Next Episode Series XXXVIII Episode 01 Spyfall Part 1 I consider the 2005 year Series XXVII as there were 26 years before the movie. |
While watching a serial from the Pertwee Years, I started to wonder if Star Trek: TNG was inspired by Classic Who!
Refer to the stone daemon Bok (who looks like a Kamen Rider kaijin). Weren't Ferengi ship captains referred to as "Damon" and wasn't one of the first Ferengi we saw actually named "Bok"!? While the similarities could be direct, it could also be possible that TNG sourced the naming convention from the same source as Classic Who, but I'm uncertain. |
I watched both
Doctor Who XXXIX 07 Eve Of The Daleks and 08 Legend Of The Sea Devils together recently on DVD. Too bad this will be the last one for 13 , Dan and Yaz in October. |
Been increasingly curious about Classic Who (Hartnell-McCoy, with some allowances for the Movie with the Eighth), but at the same time, I am also kin to the idea of there being a massive split in the Who fandom between the Eras! There are those who genuinely prefer Classic over New, and the disdain can be quite vocal at times. Reasons can vary, with some unhappy with Russell T. Davis' approach in general, and some unhappy with the Companions like Rose.
Is there more depth to this vitriol? It doesn't actually surprise me cause every franchise can have a split in the fandom (Transformers in particular has some of the more pointless arguments/debates). |
Doctor Who XXXVII - Doctor Who XXXIX Alternate Opening Sequence for
the 13th Doctor and Yaz. this one looked way cooler and should have been used. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYCU2Hk247M Doctor Who XL 14th Doctor Possible Opening Sequence - What we see on screen may likely change. This is to give you guys a general idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n66pyLFPasQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rboZOEk9w94 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo4zQdE48ao |
Sorry about the extra post but I wanted to keep the opening titles on their own.
As for the classic era I own the entire 1st series of Doctor Who with Will Hartnell on DVD and a few from Series II with him. Buying them in order and am on Story 13 for buy ins. I own up to Story 12 with Story 004 Marco Polo on Audio CD. Also Story 008 The Reign Of Terror on Audio but had now gotten a DVD release recently. I've seen nearly all of the 1st Doctor Via Netflix Disk rental except Planet Of Giants. Also most of the 2nd and 3rd Doctors on disk rentals and a few 1st and 2nd Doctor Episodes mised but plan to try to buy them soon. As I don't have 267 (BBCA) on cable I've watched the entire revived era (Doctor Who XXVII - Doctor Who XXXIX) on DVD and am trying to buy up all the classic serials in story order. I watch Classic Era Who once a week but needed to hold for the winter break. Weekly I'm on Marco Polo Part 5 and Doctor Who XXVII 05 World War Three with the 9th Doctor. I get to see all of the revived era with no hiatus in the way. That will be great. I should be caught up when the 14th Doctor starts with the revived era. I'm back watching all episodes up to New Era Series 14. |

Finally saw a "decent" chunk of the Fourth Doctor Serial, "Genesis of the Daleks", which introduced Davros to the franchise!
A thought then occurred: Was God Neros inspired by Davros!? Hear me out on this: - "Genesis of the Daleks" debuted in '75, and Metal Heroes debuted in '82 with Gavan. The timing is more than sufficient. - Neros and Davros have very similar aesthetics: both are depicted as "old", almost always seen sitting, both have a colored "gem" in the center of their heads (though this may have greater significance where Davros is concerned), always wear black, movement is largely confined to raising their right hands, desire to command large armies, very vulnerable with little in the way of independent combat capabilities, very evil! - Toei kind of already did a less-than-subtle Doctor Who reference about a year or so before Metalder debuted in '87. Episode 9 of Flashman in '86 is "Toki o Kakeru Hakase", or "The Doctor Who Travels Through Time". https://www.grnrngr.com/sentai/series/flashman I'll admit, some details are very generic as far as sci-fi villains are concerned, but I see enough evidence to think that someone took notice. Well not a lot of Disney plus shows get home released. We have yet to see anything Marvel that's D+ exclusive. That's why Doctor Who has me wondering. That's what the question was based on.
|
The thing is, while the exact level of involvement Disney+ isn't fully known, it seems to just be doing international streaming going forwards, basically doing what Netflix used to do. It's not exactly the same as a show produced by a Disney subsidiary like Marvel or Lucasfilms. That doesn't guarantee it a home media release - that's a dying breed as more and more people rely purely on streaming and thus there's less money for lower end releases - but Doctor Who seems to have a reliable enough market that it'll come out somehow, at least on its home turf.
|
Well that usually means an R1 release. If true to form I'll continue to watch Doctor Who Saturday night on DVD.
My current schedule Doctor Who Saturday 8:00 PM Resuming with Doctor Who XXVII 9th Doctor 07 The Long Game this week. My plan is to watch all of the 2005 run in order (including Infinity Quest and Dreamland) and also holiday specials. The hold was to include The Power Of The Doctor. I expect to be done in early 2026 with no weeks off. If I time it right I can add the 14th and 15th Doctor to this run. |
Doesn't the "The Daleks" with Hartnell's First Doctor contradict the history depicted in "Genesis of the Daleks" with Baker's Fourth Doctor?
The First says that the ancestors of the Daleks and the Thals before their war were "Dals" and "Tals" and that the Daleks are the way they are because they haven't "come full circle" yet. However, the Fourth sees Kaleds and Thals at war and the Daleks are experiments by Davros rather than wartime mutations with no mention of the previous histories! |
Trying to make a coherant Dalk timeline, even just out of their TV appearances, is an exercise in futility. The old BBC Cult Website for the explanation was that the Daleks in "The Daleks" were the left-behind remnants of the full Dalek race, early prototypes dependent on static power, and the Thals have their story wrong from centuries of knowledge drift, but the real explanation is that audiences wouldn't be expected to remember an unrepeated, decade old story at that point, and Terry Nation didn't want to be beholden to an off-the-cuff bit of lore he'd already contradicted himself in his 60's Daleks comics to restrict his stories.

I haven't watched Who in a long time, but from what I remember of both modern and classic Who is that it contradicts and retcons itself constantly. I think Skaro had been destroyed at least three times

A new mobile game is coming up
Doctor Who - Lost In Time It starts with the 13th Doctor and currently there are 13 episodes in the game. This could be interesting. I had also finished 2 other games Doctor Who Legacy which ended with Clara and the 12th Doctor fighting the Cyber King. Doctor Who - The Lonely Assassin You find somebody's cell phone and fight the Weaping Angels guided by Petranella Osgood from UNIT. Played a 3rd one Doctor Who Infinity A Match 3 / comic hybrid game. 5 episodes. Also watching the 3rd Doctor on Brit Box. I have a PC CD with all 5 Adventure Games with Amy and the 11th Doctor. |
