Eureka 7
So Yeah... I binged the end of the show and..... it was really good but confusing. I was actually really getting into the show in the late 30s when shit went down with Dewy and we got some really really good fights and conflict. But then Eureka and Renton and those shitty kids went to Earth and sat on that beach for like 3 episodes. If those kids weren't there, I felt I would have enjoyed that arc a bit more. Anemonie finally not being a sporadic bitch and Dominic admitting he loves her came out of nowhere, but I'm okay with it since their relationship was kinda fucked up anyways. But The End turning white and good out of nowhere was kinda cool. My problem with the ending of the show and just in general is that shit seems to come out of nowhere. Like the ending. Where Renton and Nirvash go to Eureka and save here, I thought Renton and Eureka were going to join together. Would make sense for the story right? Nope. Nirvash is like "Don't worry guys, I got this shit, we'll move to another universe." Just like that. And it is terribly confusing at points. Without looking up a wiki, I was confused as to what essential stuff like the Summer of Love and the Limit of questions was as the show just half hazardly explained this crucial lore. And now I've been hearing there are multiple branching timelines from the endings? And AO has some time travel BS? Good grief. |
You're better off just ignoring AO. It's dreadful.
A lot of people think the movie is too, but I have a love for AUs so I kinda like it (plus it was my first exposure to the franchise). It horribly twists a lot of the characters though in pretty unforgivable ways. |
Any recommendations on anime I should watch next. I need another really good sci-fi mecha show I can sink my teeth into, but looking up stuff online, it doesn't seem like any of the other big hitters I'm interested in (Macross mainly) are available for streaming on netflix, hulu or chrunchyroll

Since you've finished Eureka 7, you should watch Eureka 7 AO. It's basically a sequel to the first show. You'll understand when you watch it.

Aldnoah.Zero Big O Captain Earth Gaiking: Legend of Daiku-Maryu Getter Robo Armageddon Star Driver Shin Mazinger Z Impact aka Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact Sorry if you seen these already |
I've heard bad things about Aldnoah Zero. Particularly about the second season, but I've also heard things about the original show, but one thing about it being weirdly yaoi focused for some reason....
Should that stop me? OR does your recommendations override it? |
So that's a no for Eureka 7 AO?
|
I seen the first three episodes of Aldnoah Zero and I liked them. It's from Gen Urobuchi, so it should be good.

Code Geass is one of the common suggestions, political intrigue with rather realsitic mechs (at least in S1) and some supernatural elements for a fun and unqie ride. If the idea of a crew of Super Robot loving goofballs stuck in a down to earth Real Robot show sounds fun to you, check Nadesico, it's both a deconstruction and a love letter to the mecha genre as a whole.
