Kakuranger is a series that revels in how weird it's plots are and how serious it doesn't take itself.
|
Really? I guess this is another case of 'that stuff comes later'.

It's more "It gets...Weird later on" :lol In all likelihood, it's not a show for you, judging based on your tastes, but it's better than fish people. |
I guess that one goes on the backburner for later then!
|
KakuRanger is by far one of the best Sentai series out there. Just because the first episode did nothing for you means nothing. The first half of the show is goofy, the second half is far more serious.
|
The first episode is quite possibly the most important episode in the entire series because it's the one that gets your attention, peaks your interest and keeps you watching. It failed to do any of those things.

It just has to do so much in so little time. It doesn't give you a proper feel for the series, it just tosses characters and plot at you and hopes it hooks you. |
It still makes it the most important.
And I still stand by the fact that with so much out there I want to watch, I haven't got time to watch like twenty episodes of every single series I've ever been vaguely interested in so that the internet will allow me to have an opinion on it. If the opening episode does nothing for me at all, I'm done and moving onto something else. |
For Kaku, the zaniness begins by episode 3, actually.
And I don't feel that way. I've honestly never found a pilot episode that wasn't crap. Even my favorite shows (Like Gekiranger, OOO, MLP, or Teen Titans) had bad pilots (And, in Teen Titans's case, a bad first season :lol). I understand why you feel that way, but the mantra of "It gets better later" is universally true since, by watching one episode, I really feel you're watching the worst episode any given show can produce. :lol |

I'll tell you this. DekaRanger had one of the worst Sentai openings I have ever seen, but I still stuck with the series. |
I just think one episode isn't nearly enough to judge whether you want to watch an entire show or not. You really need more exposure to make a decision.

And yes I totally appreciate and understand that it may go on to be my favourite series ever. But you know what I can do in the time of twenty episodes? A whole lot of fucking things. And when I remember that, it doesn't seem worth wasting my time on a series I am half in at, when I could go now and watch the opening episode of another series love every moment, watch twenty episodes of that and love it from that very first episode. |
I watched episodes 29 and 30 of Battle Fever J. Loved 29 because of the use of Miss America, Battle France and Kenya and the use of Cossack's Sais. 30 was really slow and I fell asleep during it.

What I have been watching? Hmm:
Up to episode 14 or something of Dairanger. Really digging it. Need to get back into it sometime soon. Up to episode 7 of Zyuranger. I dig it. Love Geki and can't wait till Burai shows up. Up to episode 7 of FOLLOW THE SUN (Sun Vulcan). And...as a shock to the weird people that find it boring (seriously, what is wrong with you?): I fucking love it. Its basically what Kakuranger would be if you gave it MORE craziness and cat drugs. DEFINITELY gonna finish this baby. Speaking of Kakuranger, up to episode 19 of it. I love it. I'm behind by about 6 or 7 episodes at the moment, but I'll catch up; I always do. :D And finally, I'm 18 episodes away from squaring away Jetman. But...I've been putting it off; mainly because I know Gai's death will break me. I'll finish it, no question, its just a matter of when. And once I'm done with that, I can marathon Gekiranger from episode 4 and get it done before the new LWW starts. :lol |
Currently watching the episodes of Zyuranger that I had skipped because I couldn't find them online back in the day. I also just started Megaranger since I've never given it a try before and I just rewatched PRiS.

I watched Episode 31 of Battle Fever J which was a great episode for Cossack, and like the last few episodes great for France and Miss America too.
Also marathoned through episodes 7-17 of Gokaiger. Man the Gokaigers are totally awesome! Joe is my favorite followed by Marvelous. UPDATE: Watched the next 2 episodes of Battle Fever J. I am really sad because of Cossack's death in Episode 33. However I can continue because I am intrigued with the new one. Also Episode 32 was good for Battle Japan |
So since yesterday I have watched the first episode of: Boukenger, Jetman, Hurricaneger, Dairanger, and GoOnger. :lol

But I think it's a shame that you can compile all the main plot in 10 episodes, and the rest is stock plots (and by 10 I'm generous). I know the genra was still new at the time, and I guess what I call "stock" was perhaps used for the very first time (the parental episode, the wedding one, the vampire one(*), etc.) There's only 3 heroes (well 5, the funky boss and his daughter count as much) and they don't really get the attention they deserve. For example, here and there is a red-focused or yellow-focused episode, but the rest is generic in terms of plot or narration. Sometimes I got the impression they were testing stuff that became staple in the following years. For example, a shot of the Sun Vulcan robot turning his back to a defeated exploding giant motw was used only once. (*) fun to notice there was always a Dracula-esque vampire episode in older Sentai. |
I'm watching Goseiger right now. Personally i like Megaforce better.

Instead, I'm watching Choujyuu Sentai Liveman. I've watched the first three episodes so far, and I intend to watch the rest. |

Watched Battle Fever J 34 and 35. 34 was good learning more with Cossack II's character. Episode 35 is one of the best episodes of Sentai ever. So fucking good and awesome.
To add to it BFJ Episode 36 was an amazingly good Miss America/Battle Cossack episode. |
So, Goseiger episodes 11-18. My little thoughts on this chunk of time. They gain zords really fast on this show. I know they have to have Hyper Gosei Great before episode 15, but still. They could have slowed down a little. Alata is an okay character, he doesn't really do much; Eiri sometimes gets on my nerves, but her cheer personality makes me cheery sometimes; Hyde is, again, okay-he never really does much, just stands around making witty comments that aren't so witty; Moune is cool, with her 'never-give-up' personality, and Agri is... I have no idea what to think of Agri. Oh well. The Warstar were a good enemy, but I really don't like the Yumanjuu, with Octoroo being annoying and Big Foot's constant repetition of stuff was annoying at first, but I got used to it by Ep18. Now, onto Gosei Knight. Everyone says he is really badass, but I don't see it yet. He seems tough, but I still prefer Utchi as a Sixth Ranger at the moment. My attitude will probably change as he warms up to the rangers, but I like his clashing personality, especially the 'Must Destroy List'. The Zord designs are good, but I can't wait for Gosei Ground to show up next episode!

Just finished the first third of Maskman. It's good so far, I like the martial arts theme, the vilains are okay. And 80's ninjas, everything is better with ninjas.
It just lacks here and there a few episodes where the plot progress a bit, or things are adressed (Who's Zeba ? Does Igam being obviously a woman will end on something ? How did the mentor knew about Tube empire ?) I hope it won't go up to the last 5 episodes with this status quo. |
Started Gekiranger with my friends watched episodes 1-7 so far. I love Retsu and Rio so far. Also love Mele she looks amazing. I love Jan and Ran too also Master Shafu is so awesome.
|
Battle Fever J Episode 39 was a really good one involving Jin (New Cossack) and his friend. It like something out of Kamen Rider OOO and Liveman a bit.

Having recently watched Dairanger's debut of Kou / Kibaranger. I have to say that I absolutely love that little pervert. To the cheesy jumping over cars on skateboards and acting a fool. I found myself watching episodes that lack Kou after he shows up kinda depressing.
|
I just finished epic 7 in Goseiger, the ending of this episode was freaking hilarious.

Battle Fever J Episodes 41 and 42 were both a bit sped up from the type of videos they are. However both were really good episodes. I loved 42 because it was a really strong Battle France episode, just wish it was better quality. I'm down to the final 9 episodes of BFJ, I'll probably review it when I finished.

Just saw something really cool.
Cool! |
Watched episode 43-45 of Battle Fever J and all I can say is Battle Kenya is badass, love the new Cossack and Egos are some if not the most nasty villains of Sentai ever. Final 7 episodes.
|
Marathoned episodes 46-49 of Battle Fever J. Still good episodes and loved the character stories for Battle France and Miss America.
