All right, so I finished the first season to 00 and wow, what a great show that was. If the second season is as good as the first, this may end up being in my top 5 Gundam series list. If not, well, it will still end up in the top 10, but still. I'm not sure which of the four pilots I like the most anymore because they all have had some great development and arcs. On the other hand, some of the secondary characters that died in the end didn't seem all that impactful to me since it wasn't like I had spent 50 episodes with them. I also feel the show could have benefitted from a true villain, but nevertheless, there was a lot of great stuff here. The animation and music were nice and I thought the Trinity were pretty badass. Poor Saji though. My god that guy got royally ****ed up. I hope he serves a bigger purpose to the main plot of the second season though because I felt his arc didn't really serve a purpose here. However, the most pointless character is hands down the princess. Thankfully she wasn't in the show as much in the second half, but still, she was kind of annoying with how idiotic she was in thinking everything would be fine. Overall, the season was quite solid and I didn't see some of the outcomes coming (well, the Allejulah one was easily predictable), which was also great. Tomorrow I will be starting Season 2.

TBH I like 00's first season largely because it's not like a typical Gundam series it's like a better done Wing in my opinion.

Zeta Gundan Movie III - So this movie is supposed to encompass episodes 33-50, but in reality, it is 33, 34, 43-47, 49, and 50. Oh, and a scene from episode 41. Yes, you read that right. They pretty much don't even bother to use footage from half of the episodes the movie covers. They never go back to Earth, the Psycho Gundam is never seen again, making it completely irrelevant to have even been in these movies in the first place, Rosammy never appears, yet, she still shows up in spirit before Kamille during the final battle, and Haman joins with the Titans for maybe 7 minutes. Oh, and Reccoa does what she does for no reason. None of it makes any sense. Even worse is the cop out of a generic happy ending that takes away all meaning the ending of the series symbolized. It makes it impossible for ZZ to occur, which pretty much makes it kick off an alternate UC timeline that we did not need nor asked for. The funniest part was there was a scene where everyone is battling, escapes, and then it cuts to Mineva looking out a window and the Zeta with a white flag takes off from Haman's ship with the Quebeley. THe editing is extremely poor and I'm done talking about it.
In the end, my score for the trilogy is a 4/10 stars. If you want to know my score for the movies individually, they are 5, 4, and 3/10 as they just kept getting worse and worse as they go along. I have no idea how someone of Tomino's stature could fail so hard on this and get progressively worse with each installment, but he found a way to do it. If you have never seen Zeta before, don't waste you time on this recycled knock-off and go for the real thing. If you have seen the series before, you have no reason to waste nearly 5 hours of your life on this trash. Quote:
EDIT: We watched the first 16 episodes to Season 2 of OO. Okay, first off, I need to say this. I just realized it was Double O, not Double Zero. I've been pronouncing it as Double Zero since the show first came out in Japan as I never heard them ever speak the show's name. I just thought people said Double O just like how they pronounce 007 as Double O 7. Anyway, this season has been pretty damn awesome so far. The story just keeps building up and the characters are just getting more complex as it goes along. Well, most of them. I'm a little bit mad that three big antagonist "deaths" of the first season turned out to be false due to them having their character shields up to the max. That was pretty lame especially the way two of them went out. Not a fan of Bushido because he hasn't really done anything but show up and run away. That aside, everything else is so great here. The A-Law is pretty much this universes Titans and boy do they live up to it. They are just total assholes, but I do love seeing regular soldiers that aren't willing to bow down to their "superiority." If what I think is about to happen in the next episode, holy **** that is going to be awesomely tragic. As for the Gundams themselves, the OO is hands down my favorite Gundam of this show now with the new Lock-On's in second. |
And with that so ends the great and amazing 00. The rest of the second season was utterly fantastic and I didn't feel like anything ended poorly. All plotlines seemed to have been resolved and it is one of the most conclusive endings I have ever seen from a Gundam show.
And then comes the movie. Where do I start? Okay, it was still pretty good, but I don't feel it needed to be 2 hours long. That and Gundam and aliens are like seamen and women, they don't mix. I don't know why, but it just didn't work for me. The movie was quite enjoyable nonetheless as it was interesting to see something new done to the franchise. The movie also redeemed Graham and Billy for me. It was also nice to see how the world was after the second season ended. I can't hate this movie at all because it acts as a nice continuation without damaging the ending we got with the TV series, but it did feel like it wasn't something that was initially planned. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable piece to send off the franchise and I am glad to have finally see it. Overall, Gundam 00 as a whole was a fantastic entry into the Gundam franchise and I do have to say that this may be my favorite of the non-UC timelines thus far (I do still need to see X and more than 7 episodes to Turn A). The animation was gorgeous, the characters were well written, developed quite strongly, and they never went into emo territory. It was also nice that they brought something new to the franchise and were not afraid to not follow the structure of the past. My only complaint is that the Gundams never lasted long enough to really get attached to them. Oh, and the dub was down right excellent. I was also watching the promos and other goodies in the Extras that were subbed only and nearly every voice sounded identical to the English counterpart, so Ocean Group really did an outstanding job with this one. This may even be their best dub ever. I give the entire series a solid 9/10 stars. On to my first viewing of Gundam Wing in 6 years!! Oh yeah, holy crap, this show featured an entire family that stayed alive through the entire thing. I don't think that has ever happened before in the history of Gundam!! |

Dr Kain, I am glad you like 00. It really is a magnificent series that pays homage to the past yet does something new, has deep characters, a fleshed out world and great MS fights. The universe is damn near perfect to me, and aside from a prequel, showing some of the motivations of the Innovades and further fleshing out the world, I don't want Sunrise to ever dabble in that universe again. |
So I watched the first disc (1-5) to Gundam Wing and I've decided that I'm going to try to react as if I have never seen the show before just to make it a bit easier to describe my thoughts on what I watch. Plus, like I have said before, it has been six years since I watched the show last, which was well before I watched Zeta, ZZ, and 00. Anyway, the show is off to a slow start. The Gundam pilots have been introduced and so far, only Duo leaves any sort of impression. The rest are mediocre at best to no personality at all. The Deathscythe is freaking awesome though while the Wing Gundam is clearly a Zeta Gundam wannabe. The other three exist. Zechs "I'm totally not Char" Marquise is pretty one dimensional so far, but what is confusing is how he says no one has ever survived a Gundam confrontation before, but how is that even possible when Gundams have never existed yet? How would he know this? Treize doesn't seem all that great right now either. The worst of the batch though are Relena and an-Noin-ing as they are just terrible. Relena needs to just die while Noin is way too obsessed in her own little universe of naivety. The best aspect of the show is hands down the music. Unfortunately, being that the disc is from 2000 (my first anime DVD ever), it looks atrocious on a HDTV. In fact, this show really needs to be remastered as its animation looks inferior that the animation of Zeta Gundam, which was 10 years prior.
Okay, with that said this is also the first time I am watching the show dubbed since DVD Volume 5 came out and the main character voices match pretty well with their Japanese counterparts. The third string characters though kind of suck. Thankfully, the script itself is pretty accurate for the most part and Scott McNeil is just as perfect as Duo as Toshihiko Seki. David Kaye also does a great job with Treize while Brian Drummond is no Takehito Koyasu. |

Yeah, that was quite funny because I have seen this show 22 times before and this was the first time I ever even thought about that.

I was browsing through the gunpla subreddit and I found someone using a GM III with posable hands. Turns out, there's a compnay that sells articulated 1/144 hands standalone.
