As for EMH, yeah. Not a big fan of the designs. But that wasn't Ceiros fault. That came from marvel. If you've noticed, a lot of the recent marvel animated series, have a "generic" look. This came from the top. For some odd reason, Marvel/Disney doesn't want a "cool" or distinct design for the characters. They're afraid it would interfere with their live action movies. But we know Ceiro can do better. He designed the current ninja turtles, and super monkey force. |

I'm not a big fan of Beware The Batman's look, I didn't like Green Lantern's new look at first either, but it grew on me, maybe this will as well. I dunno, everyone just looks really gangly and the huge limbs make the fights look really clunky. It's very stylishly directed though, sets a great mood. I swear the Marvel shows get worse as they go along, shows like Spectacular Spider-Man and EMH were both kinda ugly but they moved with such fluidity and energy that it was hard not to love the look. The new Avengers show and the new Spider-Man show are both as generic and cheap looking, but without the fluid animation so I just find them unwatchable in how hideous they appear. Then again most of the Marvel Animated films feel really cheap as well, I guess they don't really care for animation in the same way DC does - for the record the DC animated Universe I actually like better than the comics. |
You pretty much nailed everything on the head.

Yeah, I went over to a friend's to watch the Flashpoint Paradox.
To me its a mixed bag. First off, let me state that I was raised on Wally West as The Flash. I knew all about Barry through Wally's thoughts and memories and the occasional cross-temporal team-ups but was never really into the character as much as Wally. Wally was alos perhaps the most successful and organic of Legacy heroes who inherited his mentor's mantle and grew to be respected by Barry's peers (the Justice League...etc etc). OK Flash rant out of the way. The animation was hard for me to judge. I think they sacrificed some surface detail in the animation of faces, Wonder Woman specifically looks pretty....I dunno. The action looks pretty kinetic though to me at least the gore was a little overdone. And the voice work even by Kevin Conroy felt kind of phoned in. What I did love about this was how Aquaman was portrayed. And somehow Young Justice Aqualad made an awesome cameo. There were some unsettling scenes...I won't spoil them for anyone but let's just say Diana takes things a little too far. Oddly enough the character I was hoping to see animated the Element Woman was absent. I loved her design in the comics but I guess she was for the most part inconsequential to the plot. |
So I just finished Paradox and I'm in two minds.
On the one hand, I LOVED the animation. Every fight sequence in this was just stunning and from that stand point this film was just perfect. On every other standpoint though... Firstly the character designs were hideous, everyone looked deformed, the writing was incredibly bad and although the changes in Paradox were fascinating because they showed a deep understanding of the characters and their mythos's (grammar?) it was like every what if scenario was the most depressing one they could think up and it just made it an overwhelming experience at the best of times. I never want to finish a superhero film wanting to slash my wrists. |
An old wound reopened today.
Teletoon, which is Canada's Cartoon Network is advertising Young Justice season 2 episodes…:( Yeah, Teletoon is THAT slow…they aired GI Joe Renegades once it was long done and forgotten about too. |
