Another good episode with Haruki. Though, his transformation sequences seem a little off, but oh well.
I might be lacking info since I was doing some other stuff, but why was the captain just staring blankly the whole episode. Also, wow, only now does Yuna ask about Yuzare and not the other times she weirdly fell unconscious. |
I cannot watched today's episode of Ultraman Trigger live online today because TV Tokyo has technical difficulties. Hope and pray nothing will go wrong on Youtube's Tsuburaya Channel.
|
Another great episode. The team gets important stuff to do and we're making progress on the Yuzare story. Next week seems like it'll be a good one.
|
Oh yeah, I'm half leaning into the idea that Yuna's dad is/was Tiga. Idk, seems like a thing they do, especially with showing the what I think is the GUTS wing.
|
I forget this is set in a futuristic Japan setting in-spite of the Mars colonization until we see aliens taking over the hi-tech phones and VR goggles. The consequence of a technologically advanced society dealing with a digital monster.
It's pretty fun when two Ultras get to compare what it's like, down to what it feels like to fly and what the timer blinking actually feels like. Kengo even gets in an "Ossu" along with Haruki. Akito a tsundere to the bitter end. Ignis really does just live there now. Highlights was him freaking out over losing an ultra-rare gacha, messing with everybody, having a handy-dandy extension chord, and just riding a segway in the background. I was wondering why the captain was staying in place the whole time while Teppei was fighting Dada and it turns out he was there to fire the canon at the exact right time. Nagase regaining control through an 8-bit game. Z can finally use his other forms and he and Trigger get to go through Multi Type/Alpha Edge. Power Type (which finally gets proper screentime)/Beta Smash, Gamma Future, and Delta Rise Claw/Sky Type. We also see Trigger do a split-second form change back to Multi Type. Sorry King Joe, but someone needed to take a dual Ultra Beam to make this a proper team-up episode. I did love seeing the two Ultramen try to clean up. So Beliarok could have taken Haruki back the whole time but is only mentioning it now that he's bored. Classic Beliarok. Since the Z Riser is still there for repairs, as far as I'm aware, I'm guessing Haruki and Z will come back later down the line. Yuna addressing the Yuzare issue sooner than I was expecting, but glad we're getting that piece of background out of the way. |
Was that a Gridman reference!?
Okay, once again, Haruki and Z steal the show, though seeing Ignis messing with the GUTS Select crew while the captain remains cool under pressure was pretty funny. Shame, we're not getting any focus on them for probably until the second half. Nice detail on Haruki glancing at Kengo during the double transformation to avoid a repeat of the first time he used the Sparklence. Hearing Alpha Edge's theme again was so nostalgic, and Trigger's orchestral opening was, like the first time they used it, amazing. Kind of hoped King Joe wouldn't get destroyed, but looks like it's still salvageable. Also, kind of figured Beliarok was the key to returning Haruki home, but still loved the exchange. I'm reminded of that one meme from Ultraman Neos (Which I've yet to see) when they were cleaning up. Looks like Yuna's now aware she's important to the plot and the plot thickens. (If anyone decides to take this out of context, I hope Bizarro Dada pays you a visit) Next Week: Instead of giving spotlight on any of the other characters, we're bringing you the Guts Wing, and the chairman, who's probably a dimension travelling gentleman. |

You know, flex once in a while to remind little kohai over at the corner that they didn't just get to where they are easily. Of course, with Z it kind of was easy cause the show was just that good. :lolol |
Honestly, these two episodes did nothing for me. Or the plot, for that matter. When Zero appeared in Taiga, it was because he was pursuing the presence of the Belial clone and he left behind the Plasma Zero-Let for use in the finale. When Geed showed up in Z, it was because he was chasing down the Devil’s Splinters to give Kaburagi what he needed to create a Belial medal that played a major role in the rest of the show. Z’s appearance here… save for the scene where Yuna gets suspicious (which could’ve come in ANY episode), these two offer no real narrative reason for Z to show up and nothing happened as a result of his presence (beyond Trigger’s ultimate form being U-09 rather than U-04, which is more annoying than anything).
But I do think Trigger’s equipment voice fits Z’s transformations better than his own and Haruki’s acting has improved. |

These were fun episodes! So they did the plot I thought they'd do in Z with having to fight a King Joe under bad guy control. Hey, gotta get your moneys worth out of those suits.
Akito being stuck between Kengo and Haruki talking about Ultraman Things was great. He's so mad. Ignis seemingly being no threat at all has made GUTS-Select not really give a shit that he keeps hanging around on their ship. Again it was nice to see the crew doing stuff. Cool that they used the Powered version of Dada and kept the computer virus thing that the original had. But I wish we got to see him do more. Did they actually beat Dada? I feel like that got kind of glossed over. Akito is tsundere as Hell. |
I wouldn't say nothing happened as a result of Z and Haruki's presence.
After all I ended up watching Trigger again! :lol Anyway I'll probably duck out of Trigger discussion now that this fun little romp is over. |
Fair.
Anyway, details for the Z Hyper Keys (and physical images of the Tiga Hyper Keys) have surfaced. https://toy.bandai.co.jp/topics/detail/2217/?c=ultraman Next week: Kengo having Go-On Yellow’s catchphrase becomes oddly prophetic, given the guest cast. |

It was a fun guest star episode, who cares if it didn't 'progress the plot'.

This was a really fun episode with a pretty decent spin on the kind of alien invasion that would be a disaster in the modern world. I liked the idea of having to dust off old analog equipment to win the day, even if this part wasn't played up as much as it could've been.
Again enjoyed seeing Haruki and Kengo bonding over what it's like to be an Ultra, although I feel like the show cheated a little bit by sneaking around the fact that Gamma Future is partially based off of Tiga. Finally, I'm kind of loving how Ignis just hangs out on the Nursedessei now and everyone just tries to ignore him. |
2nd Trigger ED will be sung by Kengo, Yuna and Akito

See, I knew they were gonna pull that "I'm from another world!" thing with Yuna's dad. Now, I'm just waiting for him to go "I have one more secret, I'm TIGA WAAAAH!!"
Fine episode, they finally got that "You're Yuzare!" thing out of the way. And I'm baffled the GUTS Wing did more damage to a kaiju (I think) than the GUTS Falcon did in its entire time. But I suppose they don't want to disrespect the OG jet. Neat Obari pose, there, Trigger. Next episode: They're really going to do that with Darrgon, huh... I mean I laughed at the thought of them doing it, but seeing it now is, oh my god... https://i.imgur.com/dEYRuam.jpg |
So I take it the Dark Giants used to sick a bunch of Kaiju on Yuzare. Carmearra in particular because she probably hates Yuzare for stealing Trigger from her. Somehow her sicking Gargorgon on Yuzare felt fitting.
The Chairman is not only from the Tiga universe but he was a member of the TPU and hooked up with Yuzare's descendent and Yuna's mom. The show also finally has someone say "Ultraman Tiga" out loud, with the proper reverence. All we're missing is the cross-dimensional team-up between Trigger and Tiga. I love how after the big serious talk about the Chairman being from another dimension Kengo just latches onto the idea of Yuna turning 18 as an excuse to give her a birthday party. I feel like the captain is incapable of doing anything beyond being a serious captain character. Yuzare, Yurika, Yuna...I'm sensing a theme with this family. Nothing like a refurbished classic as the Chairman takes out the Guts Wing to back up Trigger. I love how the Opening plays at the "Pull the Trigger" part just when the Chairman is literally pulling a trigger and firing on pure instinct. I wonder how much Yuna can pull out Yuzare now. Seems like a way to help out Trigger whenever the plot needs it. I'm glad the Guts Wing survived. They should add it to the GUTS-Select arsenal. And it even got to fly with Trigger! Akito gives Yuna a bedazzled stun gun...well, he wants to keep her safe, and it's...arguably fashionable? Well, with Darrgon going all in on his feelings next week maybe she'll find a use for the stun gun after all. |

"Use the Force, Shizuma." Followed by comedic timing from the opening.
I'd be lying if I said I was disappointed about this episode, but I still feel like we could have gotten more before leading up to this point. That said, this was a really good episode. I kind of like how Trigger is like an alternate world/sequel to Tiga, which I guess is similar to Dyna in that regard, but I still like it, though I almost thought they'd do something different with Shizuma, but this is good too. I do like how unlike Tiga, GUTS Select is already aware of the origins of Trigger and work to face the threat posed by the Giants of Darkness, and having their tech based off of the original GUTS is a nice detail. Really thought they would reveal Yuzare to Yuna later, but this worked pretty well, especially in (hopefully) developing the team dynamic in a new, interesting way. And although I loved seeing GUTS Wing and the references to Tiga, I still think this season wasn't pulled off the best it could be, but at least, it's still entertaining. I kind of want Trigger's final form weapon to be a gun... Next Week: Darrgon's favorite girl is one who can fight back, and probably can stun gun him to death. |
Maaan this one was good! They really got me going when they whipped out the GUTS Wing with the theme and everything. Coupled with the backstory I'm finally getting into this series being a Tiga anniversary show; it's finally doing it right

I may just forgive Kengo for saying "Smile, Smile!" out loud so often.
I've had just about enough of that pilot and her falcon-chan https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E1PHlPaUcAQmNv3.jpg |
I like her well enough - definitely better than Yuna - but like the rest she's very one-dimensional; I still don't feel like the GUTS-Select members are actually there. I hope we've got some focus episodes coming up, and we probably could have done with a couple of them before now
|
Trigger's really turned around over the past few weeks. We finally get some answers/backstory, and even a few character moments with the birthday party. Looks like the Guts-Select crew might have some stuff to say about Dargon next week, so hopefully they keep developing them. Very pleased with this episode overall.
|
Wow, Go-on Yellow guest-appearing in another show where her catchphrase is used. :lolol
|
Man, I really liked this episode. The whole bit with Shizuma and the GUTS Wing was cool as Hell. It was also probably the most effective a Defense Team Jet in an Ultraman show has ever been.
Next week: Dargon is in love with Yuna. It's ok, she's 18 now! Quote:

So, Tsuburaya are apparently showcasing the toys themselves now. Guess they don’t trust Bandai or the show to do it.

Well... They do say Love conquers all, so he's not wrong...
Honestly didn't mind this episode all that much, stalker Dargonn and all. I actually found Ignis being Dargonn's wingman hilarious, and Kengo and Akito unable to determine his expression was priceless, added with the fact that Kengo can sort of tell given him being Trigger. And given how Dargonn loves strength above all else, being convinced that love is a good thing (even if it's his sworn enemy) kind of fits. I don't mind bringing in past monsters, since there are a lot of favorites and the opportunity to add some updated visual flavor as presented here (unless I'm just stupid and they've done this exact same thing before). I love how they're setting up Trigger Dark. Especially since his suit looks incredible! Next Week: "Kengo! We need to go back to the future!" Quote:

Dargonn has mastered the art of sitting on nothing.
I don't know what's funnier, no one noticing Dargonn just sitting there looking at Yuna or Ignis being the only one who sees him and teaching him the ins and outs of love. For a warrior like Dargonn, relating love to strength makes the most sense for him to conceive of it. I sometimes forget Yuna goes to high school. She looks good in her uniform and in her student hairstyle. Dargonn using all the go-to romantic moves on Yuna and them not working because he's super strong and is used to trying to kill people was hilarious. I love how Kengo points out that Yuna actually used the stun gun and Akito seems kind of happy. I wonder if Kengo was able to tell Dargonn's expression because he's an Ultra or because on some emotional level he can sense someone's smile even when they have no moveable mouth? I think that's the first time I've seen a monster summoned because a Dark Giant threw a fit over being in love. I see Zaragas is the type who gets stronger when their armor is removed. That divided shot in the two apartment buildings and the camera footage on the TV of the battle was pretty cool. Power Type! And it goes all Ora Ora on Zaragas! And then Dargonn just flicks it away with his finger so Trigger can finish it. So Trigger is Dargonn's warrior rival while Akito is his love rival. Surprise! Trigger used to be a Dark Giant! Here comes a time travel episode and Trigger Dark! |
Oh snap! He's back!

Sean is absolutely WILD on Ultra Connection Live right now -- guy's doing all his lines in English and Japanese and switching between them effortlessly on the fly!

Really fun episode this week. Zooming in on Dargon watching Yuna and then zooming in on Ignis watching Dargon was hilarious. Excited to see what the deal is with Trigger Dark and Trigger's backstory.

Well, there's that Ultraman Regulus rumor coming into fruition. Love how he looks like a cross between Leo and Max.
Diavolo looks pretty cool and continues the trend Absolute Tartarus established on the aesthetics of the Absolutians. I guess we can now rule out two of the three silhouettes from that one poster. Also, really loved the Jojo reference and the reaction to the stungun being used in the episode. There's just so many charming moments in this show that I can't dislike it. I honestly won't mind if this is how the show ends up. |
The only newsworthy really is the new Absolutian, I feel.
|
Regulus looks pretty great. I love how different he looks.
If we don't get details on the other two hidden Absolutians I can now prepare myself this time for this to end on a cliffhanger. Unlike last time which just burned me really bad honestly. |
