Yeah, the Federation are kinda pussies in ZZ. It's weird how the federation prior to this point has at least tried to get thier shit together fighting Zeon, and are more proactive post OYW here it's just they stop altogether. Quote:
I also got my mom to watch about an hour of the first 0079 movie. I interjected the movie with interesting facts and answered any questions she had. She fell asleep after White Base entered Earth's atmosphere, but she woke up and told me she liked it, and that we should finish it on Thursday. The way she explained it to me is it was like watching the first Star Wars movie, which she saw in theaters in like 6th grade, and how it was different from everything else at the time. I think she understands why I like it a lot more now. |

My favorite episode of the original series? I'm not sure, but it is definitely one of the Ramba Ral episodes. Might be the one where He meets Amuro and Fraw in the tavern. Quote:

And so ends the adventures of ZZ. My god this show was down right incredible. Sure, it isn't as good as Zeta, but it is better than the original. In fact, I feel like it takes the best elements of both series and makes it its own thing. The last disc just continued to show how great Tomino is when it comes to storytelling, at least when you look at the whole picture. There were some little issues that crop up, especially because characters like the 3Ds just disappear. As I have said many times, Haman Karn is my favorite Gundam character and the last batch of episodes continue to show why. Judau is also one of the best Gundam pilots ever because much of how a likable of a guy he is and he grows quite significantly throughout the show. In fact, I'd say that he might even have more character depth than Kamille does because he has seen the dark side of life and still tries to look past it. Of course, Kamille is still my favorite Gundam pilot, he just isn't the best. It is a shame Char never showed up in this show, which is a shame because it would have been nice to have some type of build up to the genocidal dickwad we get in the next story, but oh well. It's time to watch Char's Counterattack.

So it's more stable but you'll have some parts*the head and most of the torso* left over. |
Char's Counterattack - So this was my first time watching this movie since seeing Zeta and ZZ. In fact, I watched this one back in 2010 before I even saw either of those series for the first time. I've always had mixed feelings about this movie, which came even moreso after seeing Zeta because why would Char go from Earth defender to genocidal douche who wants to kill everyone? Well, now that I have the series fresh in my mind I came to realize why during the movie, which deals with the way the Federation were treating the event of Dublin from ZZ. I think it is that moment that made Char become the man he is in this movie. Holy crap, now it all makes sense to me.
So does that change my opinion of the movie? Well yes and no. I'm still mixed on it as the movie runs 30 minutes longer than it needed to be. Quess is by far one of the worst Gundam characters ever (probably second to Flay from SEED) and every scene that deals with her is a poorly contived mess. I have no idea what her purpose was to this or why Tomino felt the need to add this little ****, but if you remove every scene of her from the movie, you would have a really tight 90 minute adventure. Of course, there is another issue, the ending, or the lack thereof. God does it suck. It just stops as if Tomino forgot to write the last 2 pages of the script and Sunrise didn't bother saying anything to him. There is another issue with the movie, but that isn't the movie's fault, it is Bandai's Their translation is utter dogpoop. I hope to the gods that Rightstuf uses an accurate script that also remembers proper grammar and doesn't decide to call "the Titans" by their proper name instead of "The Haman" like their subs say. Oh, and "I won't let closer to the thrusters," makes no sense whatsoever. So here's hoping Rightstuf has proper subs to go with their remastered video. Anyway, I do think the music is great, the mech designs are great, and the scene when Char makes his big speech (despites its poor translation) is stellar. None of the new characters are all that memorable though and were really there just to die, which was annoying. Chan was such a T's. :-) Nevertheless, I'm going to give the movie a 7/10 because when it is great, it is really great and it is a nice finale to the Amuro/Char story (kind of). Well, I can now finally watch Unicorn, YES!!!!!! EDIT: Watched the first 3 episodes to Unicorn today and OMGTHEYWERESOAWESOME!!!!! I've seen the first two before, but it was nice to finally watch episode 3 right after and damn, that episode was great. I loved the reveal behind wh Marida, especially after just coming off the high of ZZ. I won't have the chance to watch anymore until Sat, but I look forward to it. So far though, I think Banagher is the worst character on the show. He isn't unlikable, but he isn't a great individual either. It is everyone else that is driving him along. |
