Ultraman Mebius ep 1 up on Tsupro's Youtube channel. With English subs.

Somehow completely missed announcements for UAF Trigger Dark and Glitter Trigger Eternity. Based on last year I'm guessing that's it for UAF until next year

Glitter Trigger feels like someone went Super Saiyan 2 and also triggered Kaioken at the same time.
|
I have to wonder how weird some of the stuff Kengo is saying to Trigger Dark must sound. Mars? Earth? We've met before? Huh?
Akito keeps acting like Trigger Dark is Kengo not knowing Kengo's gone back in time. Also, reveals the truth to Yuna, who believes in Kengo like Yuzare did. Well, Guts-Select tried their best to fend off Trigger Dark... Kengo takes all the memories and experiences he's formed with Trigger to meet his punch and show him the light...and then it turns out he inspired Trigger and they became Ultraman Trigger together. So he was always Ultraman Trigger as part of a stable time loop? At least that was my takeaway. I don't know how Trigger split into his three forms to fight the Dark Giants, and it didn't really do much, but it was cool. And it set up Glitter Multi Photon. So Yuzare gave the Eternity Core or a piece of it to Trigger? So she saddled that with Kengo, which is why she felt so bad. Akito's character development comes to fruition as he makes a heartfelt speech about Kengo and how he changed him. It warms the heart. Because of the stable time loop the Dark Giants finally realize that the person who messed everything up for them was Kengo and now Carmearra personally wants to kill him. Uh Oh. I love how the Dark Giants try to help Trigger Dark against Trigger and he attacks them. Like Darrgon's lending a helping hand and then Trigger Dark just sucker punches him. Only Trigger can fight Trigger. Glitter Trigger Eternity! It's like literally the light! And it's not an easy upgrade as it's so powerful Trigger can barely get through an Ultra Beam, although it's strong enough to take out the rest of the Dark Giants along with Trigger Dark. And it's sword has a trigger! Pull the Trigger, Trigger! Looks like the essence of Trigger Dark has possessed or inserted itself into Ignis. I guess he finally has the power he wanted all along. Seems like we're getting a focus on Marluru and the Guts-Select team next week. |
What happened? Did Kengo go back in time? Does that mean he was really the Trigger since the start? Why were there two Triggers?
I am honestly confused at what happened in this episode. I did like Glitter fairly enough, altho probably not my favorite Ultra final form, since I like ones that completely change the Ultra's silhouette. I liked he had trouble using the form, I don't see that happen often, so that was neat. https://i.imgur.com/Jj90t3x.jpg |

Honestly this was a magnificent episode! Tsuburaya really knows how to introduce these Final Forms, and sure, there are some (like Geed and Orb) who had better episodes, this had something you don't really see in Final Form debuts in how it's so strong, the protagonist can't keep up with it. It makes Glitter Trigger Eternity an interesting Final Form down the line, and certainly justifies using it for every episode from now on. That said, I think we all knew Glitter Eternity was going to have something to do with the Eternity Core, though I almost thought it would appear like Agito Shining and Trigger Dark just turns into Glitter Trigger (before last week's episode, actually). Though if this were a Marvel Movie, there would be some post-credits scene with the caption "Trigger Dark will return." Really liked how this episode was pulled off, and hope Trigger can continue going strong down the line. Next Episode: Marluru is on the case... And it's not a recap episode! |

Or something like that. |
This was a good pair of episodes! They felt like more of a mid season finale than just episodes where hero gets super duper form.
I like that Trigger Dark is so powerful that buildings just fall over and explode while he walks around. Kengo has his own "I'm my own Grandfather" time paradox that makes Trigger Dark a separate entity from Trigger. So now we have an angry Dark Trigger running around who's obsessed with beating Trigger even if he has to beat up his former(?) comrades to get to him. Also due to time travel shenanigans, Yuzare/Yuna gives Trigger the power of the Eternity Core to become Glitter Trigger Eternity! A form so powerful that Kengo struggles to use it properly which is interesting, hopefully it means it won't just be the instant win button for the next few episodes. Splitting into 3 Triggers to fight all of the Dark Giants at the same time is pretty cool. The Glitter Blade is also a way better looking weapon than the Circle Arms. Ignis is posessed by Dark Trigger. Shocking! Well, it would be if it wasn't teased in the opening for the last few weeks. Quote:

Having caught up to Kira Mage Ranger on DVD for sets I'd like to start Ultra from Series I after 2022 or 2023.
|
I'm getting caught up on Trigger and I think I've figured out why Kengo isn't really working for me: he reminds me too much of a Sentai red. Shallow personality, obnoxious catch phrase, it's all something I'd expect from Super Sentai instead of Ultraman.
|
Kengo is like if the show's staff saw Godai from Kuuga and decided that they wanted to do that, but without a charismatic lead performance or any dramatic weight to his decisions. He has no real character, just one personality quirk.
|
Next week, Ultraman Ribut appears! And... A new Absolutian?!
What? New episode this week? detective case? Don't be silly. |
A clip show with Marluru playing detective is an interesting way of going about it, but hey, more MAO is never a bad thing! She even sang an insert song!
So I wonder when they'll update the Opening? When we get the Nursedessei transformation that they're already showing commercials for in toy form? I love how Marluru had a detective hat in case of a mystery that of course only he could solve. He even had a detective jacket and handcuffs ready. As far as plot relevant stuff we have Ignis snagging a prototype Sparklence and monster keys. Won't he need to make a Trigger Dark key, though? "Great Detective" Marluru completely missed it when Kengo and Yuna basically spilled their respective beans in front of him. That's some detective work. I liked the interrogation scene where it shifts from everybody's reactions while Marluru is interviewing them at different times but shown all together. Pretty surreal seeing Tatsumi outside the GUTS-Select uniform and talking to Marluru in a suit by a riverbank. And Marluru joined the crew because he and Tatsumi watched the same show and he could have plenty of opportunities to watch it because Tatsumi had it recorded. And the punchline was Tatsumi being surprised Marluru had hands. Marluru going on and on about trust and making sure everyone else is safe...and then turns on Teppei and goes through his browsing history. Yeah, he had that noogie coming. Next week, surprise new crossover! |
Quote:
Marluru went full-on Shotaro Hidari this episode, which was certainly amusing. Heck, even the backstory of Tatsumi recruiting him/her(?) was rather nice, especially since it gives us a glimpse of how he isn't fazed by a Metron with hands, or any alien who just lives like a hobo. "No Comment." I'm pretty sure she just has a lot of fun piloting GUTS Falcon, I mean who wouldn't with that VR headset and swiveling chair, blasting at the monster-of-the-week, but acts cool so she doesn't get too chummy with the others. Or at least, that's how I perceive her. Tessin, man, I always found him to be an endearing face in the group, especially after his appearance in Orb had such an impact, this is the guy I want to see more of, since all he really does is shout things and man the cannons. And how can I forget Ignis trying (poorly) to hide from everyone, but ultimately, doesn't get found, was a lot of fun. I actually don't mind this being a recap episode, since Ultraman has been pretty good with their recaps in how they make them entertaining, while also building up the upcoming arcs and connecting the pieces the show introduces. At least to me. Heck, since we've come this far, I can honestly see why Kengo doesn't have any backstory so far, since what transpired last episode, which may or may not be a good thing, depending how the series wraps up. Next Episode: Diavolo is going to live up to Tartarus' standards of being an Absolutian, by showing up, flexing, then nigerundayo(!) when the Ultras get serious. But hey, we get to see our favorite Malaysian Ultraman, Ribut again! |
Cute episode! Been hoping for a while for character-focused bottle episodes so I can actually understand the GUTS-SELECT team beyond, like, one-note character traits or at least have them endeared to me. And this one kinda worked for me! Sure, it was half a clip show and I definitely wish it didn't wait until after the final form, but... eh, Marlulu was cute and Tesshin is a fun stooge. It's nice enough
|
Those black GUTS-Select jackets looked good on Akito and the Captain. Maybe they should have them as their stealth uniforms.
Next week is Ribut's time to shine. Wonder if they will finally give him an SHF Figuarts. |
Quote:
But I see what you mean. Kengo's not a wanderer like Gai, or having the burden of being Belial's son like Geed. |
Fun episode, and very funny that they managed to hide it being a recap. I'm glad we finally got more time with cast, and the recap parts were actually integrated fairly well. Very curious to see what Ignis is up to.
|
You got me Tsuburaya. *shakes fist* I wasn't expecting a clip show. It was a fun episode though.
Was the flashback to the Captain and Marluru a reference to something? I feel like it is. Speaking of, Marulu's room being a reference to The Targeted Town from Ultraseven is pretty good. "You have hands?" I still like that Ignis gets sillier every episode. But with his own Sparklens and a Zaigorg Hyper Key that could all change. Marulu's song is cute. Next week seems pretty full on! |
Presumably, the reason they didn’t go full clip show was because they released this as well. https://youtube.com/watch?v=7sLn9K-Hiiw

New Opening! Although they only really add Glitter Trigger Eternity. I was expecting them to throw in Trigger Dark in Ignis' scene.
The Absolutians turn up in the Trigger-verse and they want the Eternity Core for themselves. Not only is Tartarus here, but another Absolutian general, Absolute Diavaolo, who seems like the Darrgon of the Absolutians. And the Dark Giants don't have their full power to be able to match them and have to defer to the new villains on the block. Does Yuna ship Kengo and Akito? I think she's definitely freshened up the dynamic now that she's in the know about Kengo as Trigger. That was nice of Ignis to give Akito information about the Absolutians as payment for the Sparklence prototype, which he's apparently fixed up successfully. Seems like him transforming into Trigger Dark is inching closer and closer. You want a Kaiju with more dakka? Here's Daebolic. That was actually some impressive piloting by Nanase to have the Guts-Falcon avoid all those missiles and lasers. So...the captain knows Kengo is Ultraman, right? That flashback of Trigger getting shot contrasted to Kengo's seemed to be from his thoughts. I feel like Kengo is maybe throwing himself too much into being Trigger now. Conversely Yuna is a little too hesitant to embrace her Yuzare heritage. The one thing Teppei and Nanase can agree on is that their tired of "core this, core that" as the reason the evil Giants keep attacking Earth. Just when Trigger needs help the most, here comes Ribut! His fight with Diavolo was pretty epic, Ribut stole the show. Don't underestimate the Galaxy Rescue Force or his training from Absolute Conspiracy. Holy crud, Ribut's human form! And he looks like a pirate! The new Ending is...surprisingly low-key and melancholic. Time for the Nursedessei to get the transformation people have been expecting from day one! As well as a Trigger and Ribut team-up! Oh, and dancing and Ignis, of course, |
Ultraman Ribut is the coolest.
Those are my thoughts on the episode. I shall now hibernate till next week and then hibernate till the end of the show unless we get another Ultra Cameo. |
"Looks like Gold's the new Black."
So I actually wasn't expecting Tartarus to show up, or at least not much, but he managed to keep things a little outside of The Absolute Conspiracy. Diavolo was cool with the fighting techniques, which is a nice parallel for Regulus if he's an L77 Ultra (which is guaranteed at this point) who primarily use martial arts as seen from Leo. I do like how they're doing this sort of training arc with another Ultra to help Kengo control the Eternity Core's power, and it is different from Final Forms in general, where it's usually just a brand new toy to kill off every enemy from now on. Though they still did that for Diavolik, who should have lasted at least a little longer, gotta give the new form some victories even if it's still to OP. It also seems Ignis is going to be a Chaotic-Neutral, since he's still somewhat helping GUTS Select, or at least Akito for leaving that old prototype Sparklence. Interested in seeing how he progresses this season. Ribut is still an absolute joy to watch, and now we get to see a human form for him in his first major Ultra Season instead of a web series. And finally, the new ending with the trio singing was really nice. Don't know if I prefer this over the previous opening, but I still like it. Next Episode: "Check out the new weapon we got!" You already spoiled it! Meanwhile, Kengo takes dance class. |

As excited as I was about the Ribut crossover, I was slightly worried that having another 2 episode crossover would have halted/stalled development. So I am happy that this arc seems like it's going to have lasting developments for Trigger. From Guts-Select unlocking the Nursedressei, and Ribut teaching Kengo how to master Glitter Trigger and perhaps part some wisdom about his situation.
Also wasn't expecting how Diavolo would be presented. Like given his horns and Father of Ultra like vibe, I thought he would be like a superior to Tartarus, but instead he's more of a brute muscle partner to Tartarus. |
The absolutians are sexy...
Oh right, the episode. Uhh... Kengo's getting a little better and I always like uncontrollable final forms. |

Kyrieloid appearing in Trigger and Ignis transforms into Dark Trigger
|
Some nice Akito scenes where he acknowledges Kengo and Yuna have a plan and when he gets an inkling the captain knows more than he's saying, like possibly approving Kengo and Yuna's diversion because he thinks it might be Trigger-related.
Wow, Ribut handed Kengo his butt. And he's also there to help Yuna embrace her connection to Yuzare and start using that more. And what better training than an Ultra Boot Camp, complete with song? Ignis' reaction to the dance sequence was everything. And then seeing Kengo and Yuna actually get into the dancing and do it well was great. Kengo finally realizes he's not just Ultraman Trigger, he's also Kengo Manaka, and he shouldn't push himself too hard beyond his human limits. And we finally hear what Yuzare really meant...Kengo's not the light and the dark, he's the light and human. It's his humanity that defines Ultraman Trigger. GUTS-Select making good use of villainous monster abilities, especially Gan-Q in this episode. Carmearra takes human form so the show has an excuse to show off Sumire Uesaka in dark goth clothing befitting a beautiful villainess and Sumire Uesaka. Is Carmearra hotter in her Ultra form or her human form? I'll leave that to you to decide. Although now I kind of want to see MAO turn up. I'm glad the Dark Giants didn't sit this one out and actually helped GUTS-Select asborb Diavolo's energy. They're not going to let the Absolutian's steal the show from them. Nursedessei finally transforms into dragon form and it looks pretty cool. Not sure how often we'll see it, but still cool. I also like how they acknowledge it makes a mess of anything outside the command room. Ribut gets to use the Sparklence and gets his own Key! And he gets his own Rise sequence! It's awesome! Wow, a Triple Beam Finish on Diavolo! Too bad the Absolutians' Absolute Hearts make them basically immortal. I hope someone from the Land of Light figures that out in-time for Kingdom. I think that's the first time we've seen the captain get super angry. I guess there was only so much he could forgive about Kengo and Yuna being gone. Ribut taught Ignis how to put his power into the Sparklence and Keys and he gets his own Sparklence and Trigger Dark transformation sequence, which is as intimidating as expected. |
When they said Boot Camp, that song was not what I was expecting.
Ribut's second episode with Trigger was fantastic! Lots of nice character moments and developments (for the most part), and the fight was a lot of fun, especially Nursedessei Battle Mode. I was wondering if the rest of the base would be okay when it transformed. It did not disappoint. Of course, this episode now has the plot-hole involving the Absolute Heart (the Absolutians "Color Timer"), in which if they die, they revive. If that's the case, how come Tartarus chickened out every time things got dicey in The Absolute Conspiracy? Guess those other Ultras could have destroyed his Absolute Heart easily, or he didn't want to risk it. It's funny how Carmearra/Carmilla, literally won't let anyone else kill Trigger/Kengo but her. Talk about a grudge. Wonder how she'll react to the new Trigger Dark. It all comes full circle, Kengo accepts he is both human and Ultraman (nice nod to the Mefilas episode from the original), and masters Glitter Trigger Eternity. Ribut is certainly a great teacher, since he also trained Yuna, which is great to see that she's staying relevant to the cast, despite how I thought they wouldn't care anymore after Glitter Eternity debutec. Ribut and Ignis' transformation scenes were great! Glad to see Trigger's picking up after it's rushed start. (It really did pull a Saber!) Next Episode: REMATCH!!! *A monster has appeared* Never mind... |
My excitement for Diavolo dropped. Was hoping he'd just leave instead of getting wrecked already.
Oh well, Tartar Sauce is still here. |

Dorito here (Good god, you a genius for coming up with that) got styled on before eating three beams at once and being the first to actually blow up and "die". |
I imagine Diavolo will probably come off a little more capable in The Kingdom, but we had to show off Trigger mastering his new form, Ribut, and the Nursedessei so he was a necessary sacrifice even in his debut arc.
|
One criticism I have is that GUTS-Select achieved their goal a little too easily. I would have liked to see some conflict, such as convincing the satellite facility to let them use their building. But overall a pretty good episode. Trigger's really been on an upswing for the past few weeks.

I dropped Ultraman Trigger midway through episode 3 because I wasn’t quite feeling it, but decided to get back into it since I had a bit too much time on my hands this week. I caught up completely and well, I think I had a rather enjoyable time. But I would call it my second least favorite New Generations show so far. However, as I always say, it’s Ultraman. If the bar is usually so very high up in quality, coming in slightly below that greatness is still a worthy achievement.
And it’s not the action, special effects or miniature work that disappoints me, all of those are excellent as usual, it’s the story and characters that are a bit weak. The side characters are all in desperate need of being fleshed out. It’s confusing to think how many excellent character moments Z and Taiga had, dedicating entire episodes to support cast members, and Trigger is just doing – well, none of that. There’s nothing for the captain, the muscle guy or that weird lady who keeps screaming "Falcon-chan" all the time, not even the adorable Metron Alien. Although that one had some good screen time in the clip-show episode of all things. Even Kengo, Yuka and Akito could use more time just being "human" IMO. I feel like there’s too much going on in this show, from them trying to juggle the 3 Giants of Darkness as well as Ignis alongside an already relatively big supporting cast, maybe a bit more quality instead of quantity would’ve worked better. But again nothing of it is really bad, just… well, lacking. There’s one thing I want to point out though, a moment that very much caught me off-guard was Yuka learning Kengo was Ultraman Trigger. I’m so used to the usual "Oh well, we knew all along anyways"-reaction Ultraman likes to deliver in these situations that this piece of dialogue blew me away. Fantastic acting from Runa Toyoda as well, what a great moment. https://i.imgur.com/7WLeLgt.png |
I'm surprised that Sumire Uesaka made a live-action appearance this early in the show. Totally unexpected.
