Ignis transforms into Trigger Dark and they go straight to him fighting Kengo as Trigger, as he's barely controlling himself. Worse, he can use monster powers like he's a villain from Z!
Did Power Type hit him straight in the balls? Trigger Dark with the Dark Giants in the Opening! New Glitter Eternity scenes! Nursedessei Battle Mode! Nursedessei Battle Mode, Trigger Dark and Glitter Trigger Eternity in the group shot! Saved by the color timer. That's got to feel weird to be on the opposite end of that one. The Captain knows something's up... What else would you call Trigger Dark? "Dark Trigger?" Carmearra having thoughts about Kengo... So Ignis finally confronts Hudram and Hudram barely even remembers him, but he does extol the virtues of Ignis' people, right before he ate all of them. No surprise Ignis goes straight into fighting him as Trigger Dark, it's the main reason he got the power. Nobody heard the shouting and gunshots though...? Metsu-Orga...Jeez, that laugh. And that bite. And gravity powers! It ate an Ultra Beam! Nothing quite like transforming straight into a punch in the monsters' mouth. It eats Trigger's sword, and then Trigger lifts him up to get a hefty dose of the Nursedessei's cannon, but then it evolves into Metsu-Orochi. Looks like it'll take all of GUTS-Select, Trigger, and Trigger Dark to take this thing out. |
Carmearra doing the exact opposite of meditation. Let's not tell her who's masquerading as her boyfriend.
A great action packed episode for Trigger, with some more interactions between Ignis and Hudram, and the return of a couple of my favorite New Generation monsters, Metsu-Orga and Maga Orochi (with a new color scheme!). The former, because I like the charm of it's design and it's very Showa Monster style design, just a really unique monster that deserves some love, and the latter, being perhaps one of my all-time favorites, and the new color palette looks great. I especially love how Trigger Dark gets a mouth when it uses a key, a bizarre, yet neat concept which adds to the scare factor for this form. And even better since it parallels Trigger's forms. It also appears Ignis goes berserk whenever he uses it, so it's going to be a Thunder Breastar situation. Trigger is certainly trying to keep the stakes high, which is and isn't really a good thing, but at the very least, we can see GUTS Select keep up with Trigger and have some spectacular fights. Next Time: It is Thunder Breastar! |
I feel bad for Ignis bros... He don't deserve this beating.
Also, kinda kinda SHF Trigger Dark when |
So this weeks episode shows that Ignis can augment Trigger Dark power via Kaiju Keys. The question can't Kengo also do the same it still the same technology after all.

Needs to come with an alternate head though, I love that design. https://i.imgur.com/DKjpaIn.jpg |

This episode is just action from literally the first second. It's awesome. Trigger got wrecked by everyone, geez. The shot of him getting thrown into a building from inside the building is great. I'll never get tired of that stuff. Orga taking the fight underground (briefly) was also cool. I like Metsu-Orga and his goofy laugh. But then it turns out that's just a Larval stage and goddamn Orochi hatches out of it. I like when they recolour monsters, it adds some variety so we're not seeing EXACTLY the same monsters all the time. Orochi looks especially snazzy in blue. Ignis' plan for revenge against Hudram certainly didn't go to... plan. I hope he learns to control his powers and we get a good Dark Trigger. |
For those who want a transformation item that doesn’t require a gimmick.

Also, (though I don't think many people care) The Netflix Ultraman Anime Season 2 airs Spring of next year. I'm looking forward to it, though I hope they stick closer to the Manga and not add things that contradict themselves later down the road. |

Metsu-Orochi is so powerful they have to use an untested weapon just to petrify the thing, and that takes the Nursedessei out from the sheer power. I guess that about balances out. Gargorgon doesn't mess around.
I love how Yuna is down and Kengo tries to cheer her up with a "Smile Smile" and they pan to the rest of the team and The Captain and Nanase have the same stoic expressions. Like, you can tell they're supporting her in their own way but they can't really smile. Even Akito smiles. I thought Ignis just dressed like a pirate but it turns out his people just have an eclectic fashion sense. Also, pretty rough that Hudram seemingly stole the life from them and turned them into stone. Could they be saved after they defeat Hudram? The Captain attacking Metsu-Orochi with the ground troops was pretty epic, but Kengo and Yuna firing actual machineguns was...weird. Ignis being reminded of what happened to his people as he sees people fleeing from the monster is enough to drive him to attack Metsu-Orochi as Trigger Dark, although that ends up inciting a wide-spread attack that takes out Guts-Selects' main plan with the Guts-Falcon so... And just when you think the Guts-Falcon is going to be useless again, Kengo pilots the thing manually, dodges all its blasts somehow with no flight training, and actually manages to hit Metsu-Orochi straight in the horn with the missile. That was pretty epic. Too bad Trigger Dark then just attacks the Guts-Falcon indiscriminately. Then Carmearra shows up to kill Kengo (how does no one hear her yelling his name?), although Trigger Dark steals her attention away long enough for Trigger to finish Metsu-Orochi while dual wielding, which was honestly pretty cool. Of course then Carmearra is still wearing to go and Glitter Trigger Eternity fades off...and then Carmearra gets flirty...and even Tigger Dark gaining the Sky Arrow and using a Finisher against Carmearra isn't enough to fully stop her. Although the Guts-Select team standing by to protect Trigger is enough to inspire Dargon to ward Carmearra, off, although honestly I think they would probably have taken them. The team figure out Ignis is Trigger Dark and lock him up, while being unable to obtain the power to defeat a Dark Giant means Ignis has just about given up. |
"Ignis... Ignis... You're endangering the mission, Ignis."
While I do feel the Metsu-Orochi fight was a little too short (though Trigger dual wielding was sick), this was a really good episode. We got to see GUTS Select fight outside the Nursedessei and got to see Trigger and Dark fight "together." The part where Kengo takes control of the GUTS Falcon reminded me of Godzilla X Mechagodzilla, which I really enjoyed, though it did sideline the other GUTS Select members (again). It was also nice to see some extra hands for the team, even if they're just red shirts, but it gives some scale to the TPC. If people were wondering what would happen in a Shin Godzilla sequel, this is the closest we'll get to that. But in all seriousness, even if we won't be seeing Trigger Dark for a while, we got to see some flashbacks to Ignis' planet and got to go out with a bang (especially when he snatched the Circle Arms), love that he still retains a bit of that charm from the early episodes, albeit only in gestures when he gets caught. It's definitely fair to say we haven't seen the last of him as Trigger Dark. I love how Dargonn is now the heart and soul of the Dark Giants, seeing as he's more calmer and less reckless (unless you count the time he went rogue in an attempt to woo Yuna earlier in the season) than Hudram and now Carmy Tart (I'm just messing around with her name now), who's out for blood. Surprised she didn't lose it when she saw Ignis as Trigger Dark. Next Episode: The Captain got promoted! Everyone's happy! What could go wrong? |

So Takaiwa's a free agent now. I wonder if he has any interest in Ultraman stuff. If suit acting is too much I would not mind him as a choreographer or consultant in shows or movies after Trigger.

Kengo with an Assault Rifle amuses me more than it should. "I SAID SMILE SMILE!!!"
Kengo being able to pilot the GUTS Falcon is kind of out-of-nowhere... plus the Falcon having a cockpit you can sit in is weird now that I think about it. But firing a missile point-blank into Orochi's face is pretty awesome anyway. Who would have guessed, Orochi's weakspot is the horn on it's head! Orochi kind of went down like a chump after that, but at least it was done with styyyyyle. Seeing the GUTS Select crew protecting Trigger was nice. Although since they're all down there it makes me wish maybe Nanase could've jumped into the GUTS Falcon to do her thing? Oh well. I like Ignis so I feel bad that his plan didn't quite go to.... plan. I think his whole plot in this story is strong enough that it could be it's own episode or episodes. Will we see him as Trigger Dark again? Hoping for a double Trigger team-up! Overall, definitely a cool 2 parter! |

Sommajor UGF news today.
First, Gina Spectre from Andro Melos is appearing with a new suit and being voiced by Ayaka Nanase. She was slightly teased back in TAC, and previously appeared in X, portrayed by Minami Tsukui. Second, and showed off earlier in today's Tamashii Nations stream, a new Absolutian named Absolute Titan, who is being voiced by Hiroto Yasumoto Titan silhouette is filled in, so there's one more Absolutian to go https://en.tsuburaya-prod.co.jp/news/3110 |
Liking the characterization this episode. The 2nd half of Trigger really is the better part of the show.
Love they justified Himari's... weird tendecies simply by just turning her into a Gamer(tm). A lot more understanding now since I know someone who's like that. BUT THEY MADE AKITO PRETEND TO TRANSFORM! They were directing that as an insult to me, I swear! As someone who wanted Akito to transform! Everyone turned into schizos basically, haha. Finally got to see an actually good episode. |
Oh shit, I really, really like Absolute Titan. I love his look a lot, and he's got a sword. Can we get an SHF of him next?
|
Bow down Overwdweller! Bow down Overdweller! Bow down Overdweller! TITAN! (Sorry, wrong Titan,)
Also, What the heckin' huckleberries, Tsuburaya!? The episode said it was coming out 8 hours later when I checked in! I'll be right back. |
I have returned! And before I begin, can we just take a moment to appreciate the title being a throwback to the first episode of the original Ultraman?
This was a fun episode, especially on the humor side, reminds me of the episode from Ultraman Max with the Mike Wizowski cat alien (I forgot it's name). I kind of figured it was a trick when Dargonn "received" a flower from Yuna (love how he spent the rest of the episode admiring it). It was hilarious seeing Akito do the transformation chant for Trigger, then continue to shout Trigger as they realize the ruse, along with everyone else (am I the only one who thought Tesshin was already the poster boy for GUTS Select?). Of course, the action was top-notch as always, and it's great to see Golba again. Also fun to see everyone panic when a certain building is being threatened and then promptly destroyed afterwards, something rare in Kaiju media (as far as I've seen). Next Episode: Kyrieloid is here to remind us he's the Baltan of Tiga. Also looks like Shizuma is finally going to transform into Tiga. Or not? |

Bets on the Yuna's dad becoming Tiga. That scene of him glowing and the fact Kyrieloid is the enemy gives me speculations that he will.
|
This was one of my favorite episodes so far. The team got a lot of really great moments and it was heartbreaking when I realized what the twist would be. I think simply showing us what each character truly wants really helped flesh out the GUTS-Select crew.

Absolute Titan looks like he's based on Manga Ultraseven which I think is pretty cool. His fight with Ribut in that Tamashi Nations stream is worth watching just for Megumi Han nerding out in the background.
This week's Trigger was the best kind of silly. It's like they were trying to make an episode of Zenkaiger. |
So who else is a Regulus fan already? I know we only got pics but I am curious how he will be utilized within the franchise. I don't expect him to be the next Zero but maybe the next Ribut, perhaps?

I kind of feel for Marluru not being able to find an apartment that accepts aliens in Japan...
It's time for the Chairman to show up again for his monthly plot-relevant episode appearance. I love how Ignis is just standing around there like it's normal and he's part of the team while still handcuffed and it's only at the end where Teppei drags him back to his cell. How does Kengo explain him having dreams about a sexy evil giantess falling in love with his evil alter ego? The Dark Giants start turning on each other. Y'know, honestly, I can appreciate how much of a team player Darrgon is. Like, even his real speech to Hudram in the last episode was about how they had to stick together. He really is the underrated MVP of this trio. I feel like he was probably a real bro to Trigger back in the day. He kind of deserves better. Kyrieloid is messing with people to find a savior, and Yuna managing to retain her sanity during the last episode makes her the best candidate, it's just too bad he's not willing to accept a genuine emotional bond between her and her father. Did anyone else feel like Multi-Type was doing a better job of holding off the Dark Giant trio than Glitter Trigger Eternity was? Although it was nice to see the Guts-Select team come in for backup. Kengo is surprisingly empathetic towards Carmeara, I guess because he realizes her feelings for Trigger were genuine and he was more than just a boytoy for her, Trigger actually made her happy. Which is why she took losing him so hard. A surprisingly good father-daughter moment between Yuna and the Chairman as they awaken Yuzare to help supercharge Trigger to fend off the Dark Giants...except Yuzare awakening ended up helping their plans, so it'll have consequences. Trigger is running on fumes and nothing the Nursedessei can dish out can do any real damage to Kyrieloid. All seems lost until Yuna realizes the chairman has a glimmer of light within him, and with that light she is able to help him summon an old friend...Ultraman Tiga. Trigger and Tiga finally meet and properly team-up, and they go through all three of their shared forms to battle Kyrieloid. That Speed/Sky type sequence was amazing. And they finish it with a double Ultra-Beam and fly off into the sky together. Amazing. Welp, back to recap episodes next week. |
No joke line today. This was a fantastic episode!
The Dark Giants certainly cause a lot more damage when they're at each other's throats more than when they're up against Trigger. It's also kind of funny how they decided to fight in a big city for their dispute. But gosh darn was the action simply amazing. I actually like how they handled the return of Tiga, where instead of just having Shizuma transform into Tiga, he summons him, which I actually really enjoyed. But the crown jewel was definitely the team-up between Tiga and Trigger against Kyrieloid, nothing short of a spectacle. They even added an OST! Even if I've never seen the complete series of Tiga (which I love how they brought in Tiga here, as the original Ultraman did with his series), but this was a wonderful moment. Yep, the "smile, smile" thing is what's going to save everyone, and more than likely reform Carmearra, or at the very least allow her to accept her fate. So far I'm liking how they're handling this. Next Episode: It's Deban's turn again (which, funny enough I already knew, as Tsuburaya added it as the preview while I was waiting for the episode for some reason). |
Kyrieloid hinting that Akito still desires to be Ultraman
C'mon, just give it to him already. |

I really liked these last couple episodes. It's nice to see the show using the supporting cast in more depth. I wish we'd gotten stuff like this much earlier in the season.

Possible character design for next year's Ultraman?
