what i fail to grasp is why SS is so great? every other series seems to have some arbitrary dimension/parallel universe/other planet where the living mecha come from to bond with humans to save the day. (ie abarangers and go onger/rpm)

Yeah, I hate it when they do straight Sentai adaptations given the different cultures and laws, a straight sentai adaptation can't help but be watered down.

That is why the series that do something new and imaginative with the footage go down as the greatest series.

Also, who the hell wants every version of sentai just with American actors?

Eh, I've only seen a few seasons of Super Sentai and all of Power Rangers and I'd be lying if I haven't noticed that from what I've seen Super Sentei always has better character development and plotting from what I've seen except for exceptional seasons like Time Force. I think people are sometimes just biased to one or the other, rather then watching them both and coming to conclusions based on that. I enjoy Power Rangers a lot, don't get me wrong, but I probably prefer Super Sentai when it all comes down to it. Maybe I just haven't watched any of the duds yet, but Super Sentai is definitely my preferred version in all the cases I've seen and I think that as a Power Rangers fan ignoring where the the show comes from is somewhat ignorant and annoying. I don't think there's a reason to bash either version though, especially when some of the seasons are just completely different entities to their Power Rangers equivalent.

And yeah, bad things happen when they just try to straight adapt, I like them doing their own thing.

Why is it ignorant for someone to not want to acknowledge a completely different show and franchise? Just because of the same fight footage, doesn't make them the same show and if you don't want to watch Super Sentai no one should make you feel like you have to. That isn't 'annoying' it's just the truth.

Not watching =/= Not acknowledging that it exists.

You can not watch something, but not be ignorant to the fact that it exists and the show originates from other shows, which is what I find annoying. The people who absolutely ignore the existence of Super Sentai are what bothers me, I couldn't care less about the people who prefer not to watch it.

I acknowledge the footage comes from Super Sentai and that is where I end it.

I don't care how Super Sentai did it, what characters they had, what changes were made.

Power Rangers is a separate show, completely unrelated.
