Personally? I don't think Kamen Rider would translate well to the audience as it suffers from 'Like Power Rangers, but not" syndrome.
If you asked someone about Kamen Rider, and what they thought. The initial response would be "That looks like power rangers...Gey". That is what will always make Kamen Rider suffer, is that it is like Power Rangers... but not. On that note, it is hard to translate, as Kamen Rider is usually the more mature of the two Toei Brands mentioned. From that, the translation is missed, as people just find there to be a show with bad actors, and bad Japanese footage attempting to be dark and missing the nuance. Don't get me wrong, I would love for there to be an American Kamen Rider show that didn't flop (I'm looking at you Masked Rider, and Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight...) But, if we are to do it? It would have to be all original content, which I don't think any production staff in the United States would want to undergo, especially with the struggles Saban and Disney have with the Power Ranger IP alone. |
