I think that Tokusatsu is just special effects shows.
I do lean more towards the transforming hero genre. But I honestly think that any show/film that uses heavy special effects is and can be considered "Tokusatsu". I don't really like relegating certain terms to just one country. Just feels close-minded. Despite "Japanese animation/anime" having a distinct style, I consider it to be "animation", same as any Western show (Miraculous, SVTFOE, Gravity Falls, etc.). In that same vein, any country can make "Tokusatsu" (i.e. Doctor Who, Power Rangers, France Five, Armor Hero, BIMA Satria Garuda, etc.). But Tokusatsu from Asia- largely Japan, but I mean Asia as a whole- has a quirkiness to it that I can't put into words. ...Not sure how much sense that makes, honestly. To put my thoughts on Toku being "only from Japan" simply: A product can be made by anyone. But a person's unique style can have a difference that sets it apart from the work of someone else who makes the same thing. ____________ As for what I'm watching... hrmm. Gonna rewatch Legend Hero. |
I wish Masked rider and Vr troopers had a proper ending back in the day.

Has anyone here seen Pulgasari?
|
I have and it's pretty bad. The story of how Pulgasari got made is better than the film itself to be honest.

Is anybody ever going to pin the "other toku series fansubs" topic? I'm getting really sick of digging through multiple pages every time I want to find it.

Bookmark that page. No more digging to find it.

I thought about doing that but it really seems like the kind of thing that should be pinned

Why were Kyodyne/Kyodain (forgive the spelling if there are discrepancies), "revived" for the Kamen Rider Fourze Movie and Super Hero Taisen Z as straight-up villains!? It just seemed like such a sucker-punch to the old show (which I have not seen), where the duo were heroes! DaiTetsujin 17 was also re-imagined in the same entry (XVII is the name for the newer version even though it's just the Roman numeral for "17"), but the effect seemed both grand and underdone simultaneously and the detailing was little bland if only by comparison! I also know that Akumaizer 3 was also re-imagined in a separate Kamen Rider Movie, and like Kyodyne (Kyodain), as straight-up villains!!!
Why is Toei reviving the older classics as villains!? Sure, the inclusions in the Movies are meant to be a nod to the older days, but it seems like it could offend fans, young and old, by changing the origins and nature of the characters! Granted, villains who are loosely inspired by older heroes takes "loosely" a tad literally and really is meant to be inspiration in design and name only, but it still doesn't feel like the best judgment call! I do think Kyodyne (Kyodain) get a little redemption moment with their actions and feelings for each other in Super Hero Taisen Z, but they still could've played it differently from the onset! |
So is there a particular reason both kikaider and zubat carry around acoustic guitars? Or is it just because guitars are cool.
