This is fake news. We at Voltron would kill to have the retail sales figures and presence of Hasbro's TF movie line, so it really isn't anything to do with that at all, and everything to do with the creative vision they have for the brand.

Hasbro has a dream of being a completely integrated company, that owns or controls the entire production, distribution and marketing chain of its products. It's a lofty vision but has investors foaming at the mouth, which is where the money is coming from. There are thousands of rich men and women gunning for them.

The rumour mill is/was that from 2019 there will be a new "Hasbro One Universe" where all of the action franchises will reside regardless of medium, and it's being kicked off by IDW Publishing in late 2018. The first film set in this universe will be MASK (out in 2021), directed by the person behind Straight Outta Compton and Fast & Furious 8. Paramount is distributing MASK, but it won't be their movie, it'll be produced and owned by Hasbro Studios.

Yeah no, Hasbro movies and comics are 2 different universes, and G.I. Joe movie comes out in 2020 followed by a Micronauts movie, then in 2021 is a D&D movie, followed by a Hasbro event movie.

I mean, you're talking about keeping things on brand, but Power Rangers' brand is live action. Power Rangers is guys in spandex fighting rubber suit monsters, that's what people know it for. And there's still the fact that animation would still be more expensive to do than having literally half the footage already be there for them. They're going to keep doing live action.

Actually, he's right on one count. As of two weeks ago, MASK, directed by F Gary Gray, is in development, though there isn't a scheduled release date like there is with GI Joe, Micronauts, and D&D.

There's a huge difference in profile between Voltron on Netflix and the Transformer mega franchise, which spans 6 $200 million+ movies (if you include the upcoming Bumblebee movie) and multiple animated TV series. Retail expectations for Transformers are infinitely higher than they are for Voltron, so even if the Transformers toy line sells better than Voltron's, it could still be a failure for Hasbro.

If you really do work on Voltron in some capacity, I'd expect you to know that...

Dizagaox, who are you? You make oblique references to working on Voltron, but that doesn't really give you much authority on Power Rangers. I'm super fascinated by what you're saying about Power Rangers and their inability to license future Sentai shows, but there are certain factors that lead me to believe that's unlikely.

Questions for you:

- Why would BoJ and Toei involve BoA and Saban in the development of Kyuranger if they had no plans to license Sentai shows beyond Ninninger?

- I have a friend who works at Hasbro, and he has said similar things regarding their desire to become, basically, the next Marvel Studios. But you're contradicting yourself. You say that Hasbro is moving away from live action to focus on animated features, but then you say that they're starting a live action "One Universe" with MASK. Why do you think that Hasbro is trying to move away from live action output when you, yourself, recognize that there are no less than four live action Hasbro movies due out in the next four years (in addition to like, five more live action Transformers movies that I'm aware of that are still in development), all of which are intended to be major franchise-starters?

- Why would Hasbro begin live action production of Beast Morphers if they're actually interested in turning Power Rangers into an animated series? Cause I guarantee that Beast Morphers was being developed by Hasbro from day one, hence the new PR logos, the new toyline by Hasbro, etc. Buyouts on this scale tend to take over a year to finalize, so they've been working on this deal, and thus the next show, since well before the announcement that the license had transferred. That's just how TV production works. Why wouldn't they just announce an animated Power Rangers series right out the gate?

Didn't Toei straight up deny Disney when they wanted to make an animated Power Rangers?
Why would they suddenly have a change of heart on Hasbro?

Toei probably rejected Disney's proposal to make animated series based on Super Sentai concepts/designs (i.e. Zyuranger/MMPR).

Any Saban/Hasbro/Disney-original designs and concepts are probably up for grabs in terms of animated shows. But who knows? I'd be interested to know how much contractual influence Toei has on Power Rangers as a concept separate from Sentai. I'm also interested in knowing how much Hasbro would have to change to make PR sufficiently distinct from Sentai in order to escape Toei's demands and make their own animated show.

EDIT: I did a little research, and I think it's a myth that Toei rejected an animated Disney PR pitch. There's almost no information on this other than Disney was considering a PR cartoon, going as far as to commission at least one test reel, but ultimately decided against it.
