I hope one of the other subs includes the bumper where Gaim takes Pink's place in the ToQger roll call. Nothing to translate there, but it was pretty amusing. :D

Sorry guys but I am totally that guy who just didn't care for Garo. And yes I do mean the first season. I was just never sold on this bizarre grim dark toku hero thing. That's why I thought I'd like Shougeki Gouraigan more since it was so similar but had far more fun. But it was just way too chaotic.
I also tried to check out the second Garo series as well and just couldn't be sold on it, and from what I understand I should be glad I haven't seen the 3rd series. So yeah, I can't say 2005 is the perfect year for me :lol |

AND there's more Garo next month. This year is just downright amazing. |
Ok, I was very concerned about this show before seeing it, and honestly, most of the way through. The puppet thing was annoying.
It started to get better during the battle where they switched colors. It had a Gokaiger feel to it, where they can use the powers of the other members. I really got interested when the stupid puppet told them that they were dead. I really liked the darkness, and can't wait to see where it goes. |

On topic though I have to say that ToQger exceeded my already positive expectations. Thankfully I ordered all the toys ahead of time too. They started hitting Mandarake last night marked well over retail. Selling very well right now so I take it this show did strike a chord with children. |

Finally saw the first episode and well I'm on bored for what is to come. What I liked the most was the fight with their personal weapons, I like how the weapons seemed to have there own powers which is nice to see.
|
-Samurai Flamenco is kind of a love letter to the hero shows of old.
-Kill la Kill is what happens when you cross Cuety Honey with Gurren Laggan -ToQger....Kobayashi WIN! -Gaim has done more in 18 eps than most series do in 50 |
Another minor detail I really appreciate about this episode is how understated it was that the guys turned pink. I am so so glad that the Show didnt completely stop just so they could point their fingers at it :lol

I was not a huge fan of this episode. It wasn't bad by any means. It just feels like we've been here before. A lot of that first episode reminded me of Den-O (flying train battles anyone?) and I'm not a huge fan of the mentor character. Also, as it has been said before, the weapon is straight up Go-Onger with a train instead of Bear-V as the bullet. I'll give the show a couple more episodes but if it doesn't grip me like Kyoryuger did, I'm out.
The one thing I really dug were the main villians. Very steam punk and the grunts are hella awesome. If I keep watching the show it'll be because of them more than likely. |
I can't find the sub for this ep anywhere. Can someone please PM me the link? Thanks.

Just remembered that I had to explain the finisher to Convoy, so I thought I might post the explanation here for everyone as well, as some may not know this:
The statues they shoot at the monster are called Jizou in Japanese. You can often find them on the sides of streets in Japan and they are said to protect both travelers and the children that play in the streets. So when Conductor tells them that they could imagine the finisher to be anything they want, Raito decides that someone who bullied children should be finished off by the children's guardians and the team makes all the crying Jizou appear. |
Lack of free time and disposable income means I've fallen behind on all fronts, managed to set aside some time for this as 'new show yay!'
Still don't think the suits are amazing, like I wouldn't rush to get the figuart, but they're certainly not terrible. I'm also really warming up to Toq-oh, the first images of the candy toy helped, but with the new combo I'm starting to think about going DX... As for the actual episode, it was hella fun. I love me some fourth wall breaking and self referential humour, so the fact that the show doesn't take itself too seriously is definitely a bonus. The fact they have to use tickets to board their trains is so silly it's awesome too. I also dig the fact that for the most part they were all learning how to use their powers and stuff and the revelation (if it's not a red herring anyway...) is certainly interesting. Only problem I have is the colour swapping seems fairly pointless to me. Need to catch up on Gaim now and try and restore a bit of Toku balance in my life =p |
So the first episode didn't really do anything for me but it wasn't as much of a train-wreck as I feared it was going to.
Outside of Right I didn't really find the cast as memorable as the Kyoryugers or Gokaiger, this show is going to take awhile to grow on me. The first episode wasn't terrible, not great either…kinda average but it did get a good chuckle out of me a few times. I'll give this the three episode treatment and see where it goes but so far I'm not really impressed. |
I just re-watched the episode with Over-Time's subs. Damn, they're good. I caught so much more nuance from these than from Imagination Station's subs, which I thought were pretty great. O-T's had a liveliness & fluency. These guys are doing excellent work.
Re-watching the episode revealed a lot of things I missed the first time. That these guys might be dead is foreshadowed surprisingly early on. I think this show is headed toward some dark territory. If they explore that territory with the exuberance and levity of the first episode, I think ToQger could be great. Like its theme of imagination, it has a limitless amount of potential. I want to congratulate whoever the casting director at Toei is. The last two seasons of Sentai (and the last three over on Kamen Rider) have had some charming-ass lead actors. Where do they keep finding all these attractive, young, charismatic actors? The miniature work and daikaiju action this season is taking it to a next level. Enhanced by the iridescent pastel CGI backdrops, this season is really something to look at. I'm also really drawn to the ToQger's combo-weapon finishers. This episode had the monster crushed by a tower of crying child statues. It seems like each finisher will be monster-specific. That's gonna lend itself to some imaginative visuals. Can't wait. So yeah, I'm really into this. ToQger has nothing but potential. Here's to flawless execution! :lol |
So…Kotaku wrote an article about Tokkyuoh and his "Train Boner":

I noticed that in the show! But as this forum is sometimes iffy with observations like that I didn't say anything.

Can I be the first to type "Trainbowner" on the forum? :lol
Do you think it expands limitlessly like its fists? |

I voted "Good" but I've been very generous. Here are my problems with the show (and yes only one episode so I'll keep an open mind, but I've got to vent):
1) Overly simplistic plot: So 5 childhood friends grew up to be ToQuger? To rescue other children who use their imagination to play together? How lame. 2) No character that stands out. With Gokaiger you have varying personalities, from the stoic Blue to the bumbling Green to the prim and proper Pink. Here almost all of them have the same type of characteristic, which is like happy, or naive, or simplistic. Only Green and Yellow are somewhat serious (but not by much). I don't want a team where all 5 members act essentially the same way. 3) The conductor and the puppet? Blech. I dislike these two weirdos already. 4) What is UP with Red and his lipstick? He looks like a drag sometimes... ok he looks like a drag all the time. Give him a wig and you'd think there are 3 girls on this team. I am serious. 5) Train = Boring. I am already tired of this choo choo theme. With all the auxillary zords and future rangers tied to trains, we are going to suffer with nothing but trains for the next year. Sigh. Positives (ok I'll say a few) 1) ToQYellow (or ToQuger 3) looks so much like GokaiYellow/Luka Millfy, right down to her yellow blazers, black stockings, and short denim shorts or skirts. They even share same type of hair style. She's not quite as beautiful as Mao Ichimichi, but I can live with that. 2) ToQPink using her imagination to defeat the Top Hats. Cute! |
Much like the toy, i rocked a Train-Boner through the Episode.
It was fast paced, and showed off the mian-gimmick early, but i loved the High Energy mook Fight and the Mecha fight. Could have established the Characters better, but i have seen far worse (looking at you, Goseiger). |
So after rewatching the episode subbed, my opinion remains unchanged, but there were some slight improvements from the first viewing. The scene when Right (isn't it supposed to be Light???) gets knocked into the pile of garbage is hilarious and the villains look so awesome. Unfortunately, I think the changing of everyone's colors is going to ruin things a bit as it means they cannot have an episode dedicated to a specific ranger with a monster only being able to be beaten by that specific ranger since they can all trade off.
As for the whole dead thing, I bet all of the rangers are just kids and this is their imagination thinking they are adult super heroes. |
On his jacket is a huge R, which is why I think Right fits.

In fact, it jumped out at me how well the suit actors conveyed the characters. Reminded me a lot of Gokaiger. Quote:
And anyway, seeing him in action, Shinson Jun does not come off as feminine in any way. He may look very pretty in his stage-make-up, but he reads as masculine to me. I was kinda disappointed -- was hoping for a more feminine/atypical red like Alata. Quote:

so after watching the OT sub I guess ill throw in my 2 cents for what I saw. id say the 1st episode was average, the plot was ridiculously simplistic and the color changing thing was just confusing as hell. and I really think they ran out of ideas with the suits and weapons and copied Go-Onger. and of course I still think ToQ-Oh is hideous and from what weve seen gets even worse when they add more to it.
I will say though, the villains designs are amazing (except for that big baby thingy) I will givie it some more time but as of now im not impressed |
Watched the first episode. Man, this show is silly. Really, really silly. I've been watching Megaranger lately and have been surprised how childish it is, but this takes it to a whole different level.
That may sound insulting, but I honestly don't mean it to be. I adore the absolutely carefree nature of the show. I think I completely fell in love with it when the villain said "I don't get it" and Pink responded "I don't either". Nothing in the show makes sense, including the color changes, but I don't think I really care. It's just non stop, insane, silliness and that light heartedness brings an amazing energy to the show. Will I adore it as much as Kyoryuger? Probably not, but I bet there won't be a single episode where I'm not having some sort of fun watching it. |
I voted "average".
In terms of a story, well, it's okay. The difference between the beginning of Kyoryuger and the beginning of ToQGer is that in Kyoryuger, you had something to make you want to watch the next episode - the identity of the other Rangers. In this show, the only cliffhanger is the ending when they're told why they were chosen, and I'm willing to bet that it's nothing as awesome as people are hoping it is. Great theme song though. |
just watched episode 1
that single episode made up for the past year of terrible sentai that was kyoruger, i'm sorry, this is what i've wanted my whole life, a train sentai, and it does not dissapoint. the characters are likeable, the villians are SO BADASS LOOKING, anything involving the ressha's is breathtaking, this is train porn at its finest if the rest of the series doesn't dissapoint, this will be my all time favorite sentai, just HOLY CRAP THAT WAS SO GOOD |

I just rewatched the episode with subs and I gotta say that I love it even more than watching the raw. I like Right, Hikari, and Mio even more than I did before. With the exception of Tokacchi and Kagura, they are alright characters so far for me.
I also don't understand what the Conductor is up to, but he is ooooone shady character. Can't wait for the next episode on Sunday. |
I can't think of a better way to sum up how I feel about this other than with a Futurama clip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxK_nA2iVXw |
So that happened.
I gave it an open mind, I watched the whole episode, and it wasn't bad. The crows are the best footsoldiers I've seen in a long time, Madam Noire is good, and the ToQ's aren't bad either. The switching thing is confusing as hell. And I'm sorry but that is still one weirdass looking mech. But overall I liked the first episode. Right up until the end. I get enough watching trains on television when my dad gets the remote, I don't need it in my ending credit theme to. |
