The gamecube was what started the "Nintendo is for BAB!EZ" rut they're in now*thanks to the purple cube though the Wii is what cemented it* and their idiotic decision to use those mini disk things pretty much killed what little 3rd party support they had left that hadn't already jumped ship over the N64 using cartridges. |
Of all the shit I obsess over. Pone, Transformers, Pokemon, Japanese heroes in spandex, MCU...Of ALL the things I obsess over, it's the Metroid fandom that embarrasses me to be a part of.

I don't know why the PS3 and 360 where on the market for so long? I remember major titles stop coming out on the PS2 by 2008. I think the PS3 and 360 are pretty much done anyways. More developers are starting to move on current systems like they always do a year or two after the next gen systems are out. |

PS4 and Xbox One will have similiar lifecycles if not longer since there isnt much to innovate from here on. We dont have those giant leaps in technology anymore where you need to pump out a system every five years. |

Personally I'm not expecting new consoles from those two till 2020-2021 at the earliest. |

Five years is too soon nowadays for new consoles though, so I hope we don't see them until 2019. It also doesn't help that we are nearly done with the second year of next gen console and nothing truly next gen has been released.

I'm talking about something grand that is brand new, innovative, ground breaking, original, unique, and is going to define this generation of gaming like how Red Dead Redemption and Uncharted did for the last one, Metal Gear Solid and Ocarina of Time did for the PS1/N64 era, Halo and God of War did for the PS2/XBX era, etc. |
What about Sunset Overdrive, Watchdogs, Bloodbrone and Destiny?

That's less confusing. |

E3 in general was very disappointing this year, no one had any particularly big announcements other than Sony and that was pretty much just multiplatform games. Microsoft announced more sequels to the same tired franchises and Nintendo seemed like they were stalling for time with spinoffs to the things we actually want. |
Quote:
As for Nintendo, my issue with them was more that they were just showing off more of what we already knew about, as the only spinoff I can think of is Metroid (and maybe the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi crossover). We aready knew about Wooly World, Fire Emblem Fates, SMTXFE, and to an extent Starfox. I am glad we got a North American release date for Xenoblade X, but other than that, yeah not much new. |

I must not be conveying what I mean in text properly. The biggest problem I'm having with this generation of gaming is that it is riding off the curtails of the last gen. Everything coming out for it has been sticking to the same safe zone that companies got comfortable in in the last generation. There are new IPs, but they are playing exactly the same as the old games. Bloodlborne is just Demon's Souls, but with guns. Watch_Dogs is just a modern day Assassin's Creed (but with an even worse protagonist and PS3 graphics). Destiny is Halo, but online. None of those are ground breaking. We need something new. A new gaming experience that is not only graphically amazing, but sets the bar to a new type of gameplay. It needs to be innovative and revolutionary. It could very well come from an existing IP if companies start taking risks with their existing IPs and do new stuff with them (like Rockstar tries to do with each incarnation of GTA), but most likely, it is going to be from a new IP. So far, Horizon is the only game that looks like it is trying to be that new thing, which is why for me, it was the game of E3. |
So... Splatoon?
|
Besthesda easily won E3 this year with that Fallout 4 demo.

But if anyone wants to talk about the "winner of E3" this year though, to me personally it's Sony in general. |

I feel like Sony won as well. A remake of Final Fantasy 7 is something that was tease way back in 2005 with the tech demo on the PS3 and Final Fantasy 7 itself has a lot of nostalgia value to a lot of people (including myself). When a official remake was announced, it blew up everywhere.

I personally think Microsoft won. Adding backwards compatibility to the Xbox One is a pretty smart move. I know you may be saying "a lot of people still have their Xbox 360s. Why would they need backwards compatibility when they have their 360 right there?" I think it's a smart move on the account of: 1) Most people sold their 360 for the One and still have their games 2) it saves space and allows people to put away their 360 and retire it. Another good thing about this is that people can play online on their 360 games on the Xbox One. Now besides this, that demonstration for Hololens was great. Would love to see what other applications this would have with other games.

Does no one remember when they did the same for the 360 and how it ultimately turned out? |
If you guys look, the list for backwards compatibility isn't even that great. It is up to the individual game studios if they want their 360 game to be playable on the X1. Sad, but true.

Sony had the best stuff though, so they won. It's nice that you get so many cool stuff to chose from, Sony still won.
Not that I care much about who "won", I'm just sad I watched Nintendos livestream and felt sad afterwards. Really weak performance. |

Regardless I only felt like a fool for getting suckered into the overhype of E3 again. |
the game I'm probably the most excited about is probably Genei Ibun Roku #FE.
the game is colorful, the music is great, the battle system looks really good, and I am loving all of the designs. especially Cain and Toma. they are straight up toku designs. |

But the better look at how the world works was nice, introducing the Mirage gives a better udnerstanding of the premise and combat system. Quote:
