This could be one of the most exquisite Sentai in recent memory! What the hell would Hasbro even call this (if they adapted it)? "Power Rangers Zord Morphers"!? I'm kinda curious what the villains look like now. |
I am guessing the villains will be throwbacks to famous Sentai Kaiju.
I hope the collectibles are those little gears in die cast metal. Although I'm already imaging 45 different Gears to buy for each season... |

That looks very weird, cool and unique! The most special anniversary season ever, the Zi-O of Super Sentai. Maybe there will be more humans as supporting characters.

I like them as mechs. A lot. But as the team itself? I'm a little concerned. |

In 2021, Toei drops all subtlety and just up and makes the newest Super Sentai team look like lost designs for a followup to Robotack. What's clear to me is that some people at Toei still really long for those Metal Hero glory days. :lol I don't hate this at all? My initial gut reaction was "wow, this is a pretty radical depature", which came with some trepidation, but I really don't hate these designs. They're fitting into a niche of cool yet weirdly cuddly-looking robot people that hasn't really been filled in tokusatsu for a while, and as I said about Zenkaiser, I like a fun retro throwback. |

I stopped watching Sentai shows because they were same old and most of their recent mecha battles are repetitive. But this is by far the most unique Sentai team I ever see because not only the Zenkaiser is the first main hero not to be the Red Ranger but the rest of the teams look more like mecha than ranger suit. I wonder if Zenkaiger is a Rider Show disguising as Sentai show while Kamen Rider Saber is a Sentai Show disguising as Rider show? |

Wow, now that's different! I'm probably gonna skip this season since I really dislike the whole "using the powers of past heroes" thing, but I love these designs and it's always nice to see Sentai trying new things. Here's hoping they actually stick with it, instead of chickening out partway through and trying to somehow drag it back to being a "normal" Sentai, since that's often my least favorite part of the experimental seasons.

So I noticed that Zenkaizer has the 45 logo on his head. The only other Ranger to have anniversary numbers on his suit is Aka Red and we know from Super Animal War that he has his own team. Maybe Zenkaizer is secretly Aka White! They both have the golden V as well. I'm calling it.

Just found out that the Zenkaiger reveal was done at the end of the Kamen Roder movies that came out.
Since we can’t watch them at the moment, I suggest you do the next currently available best thing and listen to the soundtracks to both movies on Spotify. |

Unless Zenkaiger is a Kamen Rider Show disguise as a Sentai show? (Gasp) |
I notice that Zenkaizer's colors seem to reference every member except for green...so new green sixth?

Since no-one’s mentioned it here, I’ll point out that Shirakura has been all but confirmed as producer, and evidence suggests that Jun Hikasa (of Timeranger. Abaranger and KR Blade fame) might be involved.

I don't exactly see the problem when it's impossible to look at most crossovers and anniversary things in Toku and take the idea of 'continuity' or 'canon' in them seriously. Toku has always been extremely light on this stuff; aside from movies like War Core and Super Hero Taisen which very clearly take place in some alternate universe, the setting of so many series creates contradictions in and of themselves -- Drive X Gaim is kind of hilarious when it hints at Mach, a character who is America... when Gaim's last stretch had America nuked to hell. Most of these crossovers retcon themselves, I don't really care if a series somewhere down the road says "this took place in a different universe" or "this was because the timelines were collapsing" or whatever, they never made sense in the first place; and Toku never makes sense when it comes to things like this.
Like, hell, the very base concept of any two series in Sentai or Rider or whatever taking place in the same universe, and taking that to its logical conclusion and saying every Sentai takes place in the same universe? How does any of that work in the first place? Continuity is the last thing you should be wanting to be upheld in these franchises, it was never there to begin with and even Ultraman who dabbled in it much more explicitly states every Earth to be different to make it work even halfway. |

Sentai on the other hand literally 10 years ago, established that all 35 Sentais at that point shared the same world. 4 Years Later they just randomly had cameos in Ninninger to establish that it's still the same world, and another year later Gokaiger again established that all 40 Sentais share the same world. Sure the 41st Sentai is a confirmed seperate universe with seemingly easy access to the main universe. But even the shows after Kyuranger continued on one world, with TheWorld literally just showing up and fucking off for a 5 minute cameo as a joke about Zyuohger not getting a real team up. This is just Shirakura pushing his weird ass phobia of having even the slightest bit of continuity between shows that he forced into Zi-O (And essentially got retconned within 2 movies.) I get that the MCU has made "Continuity" a big ol boogeyman, but you don't need constant reminders to previous teams and shows to have continuity established. Gokaiger is the extreme while Ninninger having Blue be connected to MagiYellow was enough to establish continuity. |
But it's always been very very light continuity, is the thing. Even a basic cursory glance will show you a lot of contradiction -- accepting these series means accepting that continuity just doesn't matter and every show will handle it differently. Sentai is extremely light on this sort of thing.

I mean yeah you absolutely got a point, ultimately this IS just entertainment for childeren and I shouldn't get upset about whether or not my karate bugmen and spandex heroes are on the same world LMAO.
|
It's not about the demographic, it's just that it's something it doesn't do.

the Zenkaiger toys will first be shown on December 26th.

With how epic Kiramager is going, I'm not sure where to put my expectations with Zenkaiger lol.

Basically, the idea is that each Sentai takes place on its own world, but there’s also a Versus World, where every Sentai exists. That’s where all the Versus movies take place, along with Gokaiger (and potentially Zyuohger). Beyond that, there are relatively few Sentai stories that feature or reference other teams in the bulk of the show itself — Denziman/Sun Vulcan, Kiramager/Gekiranger, Zyuohger/Gokaiger, Kyuranger/Gokaiger (though they are explicitly from different universes), and Ninninger/Kakuranger/Hurricanger/Magiranger are the only ones I know of. We can probably assume that Kyoryuger exists in a world with other Sentai teams, since the characters seem to be aware of the overall concept of Sentai, but it can’t share a world with any of the other Dino teams, Boukenger, or Go-Onger, as they all have completely different reasons for the extinction of dinosaurs. That said, this is just a fan theory, and multiple producers of both KR and Sentai have said over the years that continuity is not something they even consider when creating individual shows. At the same time, there have been comments from other producers that indicate all their shows exist in the same universe, apart from all the others. The point is that Sentai continuity is an extremely complicated subject, with so many contradictions and inconsistencies that arguing about it is a little silly. :lol |

Well, back in the 70s sentai worked with marvel to make spiderman as well as battle fever j, who at the time even in the 80s was retcon in the 10th super sentai anniversaries. like riders, in the 70s it was more about war terrorism and nazi. the 80s with gavan, sentai began to approach more space and science theme. it wasnt really about selling a lot of merchandises with some series only have one or two mecha + less than a handful of roleplaying gears. they did tried twice with a playschool ultra carrier zord thing out of filmsy materials with turboranger/fiveman base.
Back when ratings matter as well as ad commercial spon in between the show. Now, is gimmick after gimmick collect them all collectibles. I think the villain actor from liveman, jetman, and dairanger once said hurricanger gone kiddy, but now we're watching the cast role play demo the toy especially ryusoulken pulling. Kiramager is an exception with how simple things are. Maybe too simple even for the villains. Zenkaiger might be a risky test for toei to retool super sentai in genral while keeping the same name and using anniversary as an excuse to get more eyeballs to be graps by initial shock, so they'll tune in. They failed trying to reboot gavan and kikaider. Now, sentai isn't in the best state compared to cheaper made animate toys sales. Likewise, 2021 saber is like ryusoulger if they had their village base. Zenkaiser looks like classic riders with one man carrying the show. |
