Second, loving what I see. We will have to wait but I get vibes of Den-O and Build and maybe some Double for good measure. Love how it reminds me of pre-stunt double Ichigo and the color scheme is kickass. Good use of orange on the blue base might I add.

SO COOL... Though now that I look at it that way, what it really reminds me of is Amazon... with the oblong "eyes" and the shape of the "mouth"...

Yeah, true, his final arcs don't always land. Sonona and Sonoya are pretty much the Sentai equivalent of Victorian Hime and Douji, they showed up too late and couldn't even get their own suits. Also, I feel like after Revice, another finale with sudden memory loss subplot was poorly received.

The suit is ugly but in a charming way? The goggles really amuse me for some reason and the slightly Showa look is nice!

I don't think I'm watching this live, but I'd like to see a new writer for this one now that everyone has (hopefully) recovered from Revice.

The King Ohger x Gotchard crossover should be cool. Is this the first time we've got such close overlapping motifs?

Considering how Die's "Watch Revice" thread has gone in terms of reactions and posts in the discussions. It's sad to say that barely anyone has just yet.

That being said Gotchard looks cool and is yet again a different coloration when it comes to the Main Rider of the Reiwa Era. I'm enjoying these different color choices!

I was literally saying last night to my wife that I'd rather get a returning writer i find middling than a new writer, just bc Revice has left me scared of the concept of new writers :lol

Realistically I know new head-writers have given me some of my favourite series (Build, and Ex-Aid come to mind), but they always have the feel of a gamble to them

Hopefully such big image leaks means we'll get some actual press releases sooner than later (maybe early July?) I'm itching to see who the writer is bc it has the potential to make or break my interest lol

These statements feel so at odds to me lol, Komura would be a great choice if you want a more light-hearted / fun oriented show.

She wrote some S tier slice of life character-comedy content for Kamen Rider Wizard when she was secondary on that, while also just providing some of generally the best episodes of that show imo

I haven't posted in a while but just had to say that that is a nice looking suit, really love the blue color of it, and the arrows on the eyes actually look pretty nice. (Some of those ai generated "leaks" gave me a little fear on this front.)

And, on the writer front, it would be nice to see Kobayashi again even though I don't expect her to return, I would also be down for a return from Inoue too, even though like Kobayashi, I frankly don't expect this either. Komura would also be nice, and even though Revice was Revice, I would still like to see a new writer on Kamen Rider soon; either way, I really dig the design of the suit, and I'll probably follow this show while it's airing.

Nah, both Zyouhger and Lupin/Patranger were on the more serious side, and the Zenkaiger writing was absolutely inconsistent (remember when robot racism was the focus for the first three episodes? Or when defeating the SD world was the priority to restore the brothers and then they just decided "Eh, we'll just keep them portrayed as SD instead of anything changing." Or when the father finally got reunited with Kaito only to just leave about an episode or two after?). It doesn't help that literally every show had the same format: Villains that sit around until the final episode to be defeated, Monsters that just attack people without much purpose other than their gimmick, Plot points introduced early on with massive implications that are not even acknowledged until the last few episodes, and focus on only one or two members of the cast in which the rest of the members are stuck in side-character territory. At best I wish she would take a break from Toku for a few years and return with a fresh new take.

As for fun/light-hearted? Fourze, Kyoryuger, and Drive (in it's first half really) all had a great format on relatively low stakes with build up to a bigger threat. That's all I really want. Revice started out with a similar format but abandoned it rather quickly. Considering how different Geats has been, it would be nicer to turn to the traditional Rider format (with more of a Fourze/Kyoryuger tone, not goofy, but not too serious either).

Although one writer that has gotten a fair amount of flak but would be cool to see return is Kento Shimoyama. His work on Ninninger definitely fumbled toward then end, but his work on Zi-O (when the story wasn't subject to actor's schedules) was pretty good.

On the topic of Gotchard, I am really curious as to the numbering system. Hopper is labeled 1, Steamliner is 9, Pilets is 4, and Madwheel is 6. They each in their combos add to 10, but I wonder if it's purely an aesthetic choice or if their is a power limit system in place.

Also, it's just a rumor at this point, but I remember hearing that the Secondary Rider may have a Gun Transformation Device. If that is the case (more importantly, if we are going to have multiple rider in the future), it will be interesting to see if they go the Build route of riders (besides the Evol Driver users) using one bottle to transform, or if new/unique system will be in place. Maybe a Rider has one default card, and has to add an additional card as armor? It will be really cool to see.

Geats gave people the safe familiarity they wanted with Takahashi, so I agree we should cautiously open up to the idea of another new writer soon. If we fear the next Kinoshita, we'll never find the next Muto. Got to take risks sometimes.

I think it's a little more complex than that. Notice the color-coded numbers and point gauges. Steamliner and Madwheel are purple with a vehicle symbol, Hopper1 is orange with a bug symbol and Pilets is blue with a flex symbol.

The artwork for these cards is pretty damn great, I really like these.

Looks like Gotchard is going to be a very driven rider. And the cards are really very beautiful, I think they will definitely interest the kids.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but I have a strong feeling that there's going to be a Grasshopper Rider crossover in Gotchard's extra content.

Something just came to mind I read a while back that the reason why there's been less toys released in the main toyline & more p-bandai releases is because of the pandemic kneecapping them a bit + the declining birthrate so they've had restructure/reduce production on stuff (keep in mind I'm not 100% sure how true that is so don't quote me on that, but it seems plausible enough as it would explain why Revice & Geats are way more P-Bandai heavy than usual and had pretty barren Q2-Q4. Especially Revice...).

Assuming that's true, I have to wonder if that possibly influenced Bandai's decision go back to cards since I imagine they're much easier to produce than electronic gimmicks like with Zero One-Revice and big hunks of plastic + electronic gimmicks with Geats.

You know who I would really like to see as the main writer? Shinji Oishi, who worked on the first half of Hibiki and Daimajin Canon. His relaxed storytelling style is perfect after Takahashi's drama. In addition, the same Hibiki gave out a good comedy, and touched on serious topics, without turning the life of the characters into an endless series of suffering. Plus, Gotchard is destined to coexist with the serialized Sentai, which means the show can afford to be episodic.

If so, then all is well, unless they charge as much for cards as for plastic toys stuffed with electronics.

I could be wrong, but I thought there were some leaks that implied that Bandai was changing their strategy for DX Gimmicks, so I think you are right!


Also: something really interesting I just noticed: Both Steamliner and Madwheel have a purple Vehicle symbol on their cards, whereas Pilets has a human, and Hopper has a bug . I wonder if this means there will be categories for various types of cards (Vehicle, Human, Bug,)

My initial reaction to the design is... meh. But I'm sure by August or September I'll be fully into it. That's almost always how it goes. :lol

The belt is... fine? Definitely shocked the cards are just... cards. And that you just stick them in the belt.

Question: I haven't started Geats yet, but isn't it also a Build/W-style two-in-one gimmick? And we're doing that twice in a row?

Geats is pretty different, mostly in that for the majority of the show characters would only have one buckle as part of their base form, and most riders didn't even get a second special buckle (at least not until recently)

So geats feels more like it has mono-forms that can be upgraded, rather than inherently two-part forms

I.e. most riders only have one item inherently linked to them, they can just add a random second buckle for more armor

I'd argue that some of the faults with Zyuohger and LupinPatren might be due to producer Utsunomiya wanting the same formula over and over again. Like, for example, it didn't feel to me like Komura actually gave a damn about Bungray, since Utsunomiya usually likes to have a twist villain show up in the middle somewhere and I believe the Lupinranger favoritism was probably his fault as well, in halfhearted response to failing merchandise sales.

But I think Shirakura allowed Komura to have more creative freedom with Zenkaiger, like he did for Inoue the year after. If Komura has the right producer behind her, I'm sure she can make something good, like how Takahashi and Takebe are making it work for Geats. It does seem like Komura has a thing for villains sitting around drinking alcohol though, even extending to Warz Gill as a secondary writer for Gokaiger.

Regarding the robot racism thing in Zenkaiger, that's just part of the bigger picture of the show's theme. Differences! Everybody is different and how that's something worth celebrating. It's something that came up before with her previous shows, like cops and robbers learning to co-exist, or humans and anthropomorphic animals working together to protect their shared planet. But I think Zenkaiger seriously delves in to that theme the most, in a way that its premise seems specially made to do.

I've noticed that Shimoyama seems to be especially good at writing movies. Like, I totally enjoyed Gobusters Returns, Kyuranger Episode Stinger and Over Quartzer.

Or a Den-O crossover. You know Toei ain't going to pass on a Den-O crossover.

By the way, I never understood the claims to favoritism in relation to this show. So the thieves have more toys of their own and also use the other team's toys? But that's why they are thieves. Do they get more episodes? But after all, there has already been a show about police rangers (and, quite possibly, there will be more), so the new motif needs more attention. The main villain was given to defeat the Patorengers, so, as for me, they were not offended.

If you're going to give top billing to Patranger, and then sideline them in the second half of the show, then it gets annoying.
Just because there's been more police themed shows doesn't mean the thief team needs more screen time. When the key advertisement are the teams going against each other, and you
1. Give the Patrangers no story arcs
2. Give the Patranger super mode to the Lupinrangers
3. Sideline them so hard there are episodes where the Patrangers have no dialogue
Then the favoritism shines, and it kills the momentum the show has in favor of selling a few more toys by giving everything to the Lupinrangers

A decade on and GoBusters returns might still be my favourite Sentai movie? It's just so good, both as a parody of a more "traditional" Sentai without taking the piss, and as a change of pace for the GoBusters cast.

Oh right Gotchard. He looks good! Really like the aviator style goggles on the helmet, will wait and see the gimmicks in action before judging but I am still surprised the cards are just cards.

If this is, indeed, the main suit, then I'm very curious about the seemingly-false image from page 21 of this thread. At the time, it seemed likely it was one of the annual attempts for someone to clickbait by faking a next-Rider image. Now that we've seen what's apparently the actual suit, four major possibilities occur to me:

1. It's a different form of Gotchard. (Possible, not likely.)
2. It's a different Gotchard Rider, and Gotchard will follow the Reiwa trend of many-Rider series. (Also possible, but I think unlikely.)
3. It's a Kabuto-style "cast off" outer form for Gotchard. (Unlikely because not enough details correspond.)
4. Someone who'd seen the actual suit used its description to prompt Dall-E or Midjourney, and that was the output. (I think this is the most likely.)

There are too many specific, accurate elements for it to have been a total fake: the arrow-eyes, the "Heisei-style Rider helmet on top," the overall color scheme. It's machine-produced, so it's got the uncanny valley element, but it's not a fake in the traditional sense. More like a poor drawing, maybe.

The suit doesn't instantly suggest how the retail toy line will work. (It seems that much of a Rider's design is based on the retail gimmick, such as Revolve On for Geats and Fourze's swappable modules.) Maybe the front panel swings open? Maybe the helmet swings open? Looking more closely, I think it may simply be Zero-One-style swappable armor, and the individual pieces connect to the angular shapes on the limbs.

I can't say I love the suit, though. Maybe it's the angle or the inexplicable white triangle, but it just seems like the bad kind of "busy." YM, of course, MV.

Technically, yes, but it feels very different in how they play it on the show. While Build and W's forms were almost always two things at once, Geats has made the "two elements at once" thing more of a rare, special occurrence. One of the things that frustrated collectors was that in practice, most Riders' default forms only used an upper-half.

IMO, it's the best Reiwa series to date, with a Gaim-like, anything-can-happen unpredictability. It constantly reinvents itself, building each new twist on what came before. You've got a treat ahead of you.

What Matrixbeast said. If the premise is going to be about two rival teams, then it shouldn't be treated superficially. It's still quite depressing that the magazines showed a physical suit for Pat Kaizer Splash, which never ever got used.

Speaking of Gobusters, I forgot to mention that he also wrote the crossover with Gokaiger, which happens to be my favorite VS movie. The scene with the reset Buddyroids is heartbreaking! So yeah, people can criticize Ninninjer and Zi-O all they want, but when Shimoyama writes a movie, he sure writes an awesome movie!

I saw rumor just now (most likely incorrect but I'll mention it for the sake of discussion) that maybe Riku Sanjo could do Gotchard.

Most likely not since he's still doing the Fuuto PI manga but if he did come back I'm not sure how to feel. I really enjoyed W (& what I saw of Kyoryuger was really fun) but I did not like Drive at all from beginning to end (even rewatches didn't increase enjoyment) so I feel like it could go either way for me.

I also have certain claims to the Drive, but I will not give up quality detective stories. At a minimum, he will definitely make certain episodes fascinating. Plus, the Rider Detective is a nice change after the Geats.
But yes, the rumor is most likely fake. Is that the Fuuto PI anime somehow influenced.

And, since arrows are such a significant design element, maybe it's time to discuss what arrows can stand for?
