Except for some occasional jokes in Toqger, the only real parody is Akibaranger.

Why does a series have to be self aware to be considered a parody?

Well thats kind of the point of a parody. Its a work of fiction that is self aware of the shortcomings of something else and uses that for comedic purposes.

And Carranger and Akibaranger are the only shows that are completely structured around that. While Akibaranger is self aware of the nerd culture in japan and uses that as the base for its jokes Carranger is a parody of sentai in general and all the tropes that franchise has.

And I dont really think there is any other show besides those two that could be considered as an all out parody on Super Sentai.

He seems far happier doing his own thing. It would be cool to see Rider or Sentai with monster designs on par with Metalder or Black RX again, though.

The common trend lately has been to gather _____ to make the big boss stronger to take over the world. Fear, darkness, negative feelings, pollution, emotions, data...that is not uncommon.

Not necessarily. A parody doesn't have to have the characters mucking in front of the camera and pointing out how silly something is.

A parody doesn't have to be a comedy nor does it have to lean on the 4th wall, which I feel is something that's lost. Carranger could've taken the common aspects and tropes Sentai uses without putting them to comedic effect. It does run the risk of the creators missing the joke and just playing things too straight, but a parody doesn't have to be a self aware and referential comedy.
