Well, I started the afternoon with the plan to watch the first 5 episodes of Shinkenger and go about doing 5 episodes nearly a day. Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, that didn't work out so well. I stopped after episode 16 because I figured it was good to call it a night. I have to say, I am enjoying the show A LOT more than I did when it initially aired. I still think the mecha is absolutely crap though. Shinken-Oh as a whole is an awesome design, but the individual mecha and all of the attachments are down right terrible looking. THe worst is when they combine with Shinken-Oh because the helmets look bad, but it is the backpacks that really make it look down right dreadful. Oh yeah, and those stupid fuzzy laughing things on Doukoku's ship are still absolutely pointless. What was Toei thinking?
With that said, we'll see if my opinion of Genta changes tomorrow as well. |

Shinkenoh's components are the only mecha that actually resemble origami in any way, shape or form. They're also the only one's that actually fold rather then just come apart and fit on other parts, despite the fact that nearly every mecha after Shinkenoh is still called origami. I really wished that they had kept the origami theme throughout the mecha, because Shinkenoh is totally unique and awesome. |
I'd agree with that, with the exception of the Swordish oragami. That thing has plenty of "folds" and edges to make it fit the theme aesthetically. It would be fine if it didn't have an egregious disc piece attached to the bottom of it.
|
In general, all of the origami have that aesthetic. The shapes are generally made up of a lot more edges and flat parts, with almost no curves present.

just finished episode 16 of Dekaranger and Dekabase robo is sooooo OP.

Have you seen Boukenger or Go-Onger? Those are my favs. --- As far as what I'm watching...I've still not finished Go-Busters yet. I like it and such and I can't remember the last episode I watched but I know it's before any new heroes arrive. It's just a tad on the boring side and I miss some of the classic cheesy roll calls and poses. I also noticed a hefty chunk of Kakuranger and CArranger are subbed now so I started watching those but stopped cuz I don't like to watch too much sentai at once but I definitely will soon. Also, I usually watch on my ps3 and I think all of carranger is mkv. hmph. |
I love Shinkenger, my only problem is you coulda probably told the whole show in about 12 episodes, the middle section of that show is like walking around in a desert with no water. The occasional moments where Juuzo appear in that the middle slog are highlights but after the initial excitement of my first few watches of the show wore off I've never been able to finish Shinkenger again, getting to the middle and just getting bored and fed up. It doesn't help that Genta is quite possibly my least favourite sixth of all time and his appearance I think is supposed to be the jolt of life for the middle but it doesn't work.

I hated the Shinken vs Go-On movie. I felt there was no chemistry between the two casts at all. Never heard of Shinkenger Returns though. What is that about? Quote:

But we'll see. I've been enjoying the show a lot more this time around. |

But yeah on the opposite end I despised Genta, his acting sucked, he wasn't funny and it isn't like a comedy character was needed since the whole cast had their serious and goofy sides that the show balanced very well. If anything all Genta did was throw off the teams balance with his shitty 'oh yeah btw Takeru had a friend once k bye' backstory. By the late twenties, if I remember, is where the mech gets so bulky it pretty much stands still for whole fights because it can't move. |
Watched 8 and 9 of Go-busters, Go-BusterOh is kinda boring , but the show has been smart enough to keep using the individual buster machines.
8 had the classic "childhood friend who followed his dream" story but I think it was done well, specially at the end when Enter actually won. 9 was cool too I like Usada and Youko so no surprises there, and it was fun to see them actually doing Spec Ops missions different from beating the monster of the week. |
Watched episodes 17-26 of Shinkenger today. Genta still annoys me to no end, the mechs continue to suck, but Juuzo and Dayuu have been nothing but awesome in every scene they are in. NEvertheless, I have enjoyed these episodes a lot more than I did when they first aired.
EDIT: Crammed through 27-38 today and these were a little tough to sit through. As everyone before it, the show is quite enjoyable, but these episodes were just average in the long run. In fact, it seems like the show starts to drag once Akumaro is introduced, as nothing is happening at all with the villains from that point. Sure, he collected Juuzo and Dayuu, but outside of one battle, they haven't done much of anything. I do like the concept of the bull Origami, but the execution leaves a little bit to be desired. Why are these mecha called Origamis? Genta remains to be one of my least favorite rangers of all time, as he is on Shunpei (Wizard) levels annoying, but at least he can hold in own in a fight. Lastly, I really do not understand the point of the dinosaur Hiden disc. That was just stupid and random. Anyway, with that said, I will probably finish the show on Monday. |
Watched GaoRanger Episode 8. GaoWhite was really annoying this episode, with Red losing his memory and not knowing his whole story. Could've been better for a focus episode for her. Anyways I am excited for the GaoYellow focus episode next. Also the end was really funny and I enjoyed GaoRed wielding the Purifying Beast Blade instead of just finishing off the enemy.

But the real point was to sell toys of a new sword, mecha and Hyper Shinken Red (my favourite of the ShinkenReds). |
Quote:
But that doesn't answer why a dinosaur disc. That does not fit in with the mythology around the show at all. |
If I recall correctly, the Kyoryu Disc only became the "Kyoryu Disc" when Takeru used it, before that it was just known as the "Founder's Disc" or "Secret Disc". I wouldn't say it's too big a stretch to assume Takeru just named it the "Kyoryumaru" due to its appearance, which also resembles a far more explainable dragon.
I know its sort of fanon, but it makes more sense then them knowing what a dinosaur is centuries before they should. Real reason: Kids love them dinosaurs. |
Well I redownloaded all of the Shinken movies, so I'll watch those after I finish the series.
I had the chance to watch three more episodes today, so I watched 39-41 and now we are back into a plot after an excruciating long 12 episodes of nothingness. Not to mention Doukoku finally does something other than sit, whine, and get drunk. That is amazing. Not to happy that I am up to the mecha Clusterfuck-Oh portion though, because my guy that mecha absolutely sucks!! Who the hell at Toei thought that was a great idea? Did they even ask the suit actor what they thought of that 200 suit pile up? Anyway, I'll be finishing the series on Monday. |
Watched the Super Hero Taihen net movies, and that was way more enjoyable than the actual movie :lol
So let's dig into the Sentai side (Pink murder case and Buster detectives) It was actually quite fun, the Go-Busters were funny and the culprit unexpected as per Net movie tradition. I wonder how KamenRiderOOO reacted when Eiji said that he had no relationship to GokaiPink and that he was happy with his platonic relationship with Hina. :lol The second half was fun as well, with all the code breaking and Libra's actor remembering he played Garren. |
Just finished Shinkenger and man, what an amazing set of final episodes those were. The end of Akumaro was great, the final showdown with Juuzo was epic, and then the battle with Doukoku rocked. Despite the series' negatives, I am so glad I rewatched it for its positives outweighed them.
Well, on to the movie and Return. EDIT: Watched the movie and Return. The movie absolutely sucked!! Sure, the summer movies usually lack a coherent story, but at least they have a story. This was way too short and quickly paced without any time to let a plot settle in. As for Returns, it sucked too. I usually love these illusion world episodes, but this was just long and boring. When you call something Returns, it usually means it is because it is a sequel to the previous one and is going to feature the cast getting back together after some type. This just felt like a 20 minute episode they did not have time for in the middle of the series, so they stretched it out to a 48 minute movie and made it sound like it was going to be a sequel adventure. BTW, seeing the samurai guys in drag was just down right creepy. It did not help that my g/f called as I was watching it, and the screen paused right on them in drag. That is an image I will never get out of my head for quite some time. Lastly, I wanted to mention one thing about the subs themselves. I swear that Nihon was drunk on sake during the last few episodes because they kept spelling Dayuu with a T. EDIT AGAIN: Here is my entire review of the series as a whole: So I decided to rewatch Shinkenger last week as I haven't seen it since it first aired. Now, when it was airing, I had some really mixed thoughts on it, as the show just seemed to drag on and on with nothing going on. As such, I as unsure how many episodes I would be able to handle in a single viewing, so I planed to do five episodes a day, only to find myself having watched the first 16 on my first sitting. Being so, I managed to finish the series today along with having watched the summer movie (which was terrible, nothing more needs to be said) and Shinkenger Returns. One of the things I did like about the show back in 2009 was its ranger cast. The cast is very strong and has great chemistry together. They have their serious moments, they have their goofy moments, but all around, they all work well together. Then comes Genta, who is nothing buy over the top goofy and he really drags the rest of the cast down. He is as bad as Wizard's Shunpei, but made worse because he is a ranger and gets sole focus on several episodes. While I will say this time around he did not get on my nerves as much, I still think he is the worst sixth ranger ever. Aside from that, the ranger suits are great, the tools they have at their disposal rock, and I really like the upgrade form in the second half. In fact, I wish red had worn that throughout the entire series, because it would have fit so well. Now the villains, remain a mixed bag for me. First, their designs are top notch, so no complaints there. Doukoku, on the other hand, seems absolutely useless to me because he does absolutely NOTHING outside of 4 episodes in the entire show. The rest of the time he is either getting drunk, yelling, or sleeping. He is a serious contender with Warz Gil's father for the Worst Evil Ruler award. Dayuu, on the other hand, is pretty awesome, and I love her character story. In fact, I just love the fact that we actually get any sort of development with a villain in this show, as they seem to just be there. And that is why Juuzo is by far the best character in this show. His has a great deal of development, has a tragic back story (just like Dayuu), and he has great chemistry whenever he is on screen with either Dayuu or Takeru. I did not care for the actor in 555, but he does a fantastic job here. Even scene with him is golden whether it be his three way battle in the first portion of his show, his second battle with Takeru in 26, his killing of Akumaro, and of course, his climatic showdown with Takeru at the end. Speaking of Akumaro, he served absolutely no purpose in this show other than to slow everything down because episodes 28-38 are pretty much the low point for the show. I guess it was nice that he actually did more than Doukoku in the long run, but it sure did not feel like it. The show could have cut him out and it would have made no difference. Sadly though, Akumaro and Genta are not the worst of the show, as that belongs to the mecha department. The mecha is just down right awful. I love the design of Shinken-Oh, and calling the mecha Origama makes sense. After that, I don't get how they are Origami because they don't fold up or anything at all. And all they do is make Shinken-Oh look clunky as hell to the point that his final form should have been called Clusterfuck-Oh, because that is exactly what it was. It was too big to do anything but stand there and be knocked back via CGI or use a bad CGI finishing movie. Not to mention I hated how every episode had to have a mech battle. I know these shows are made to sell toys, but come on, kids are not going to stop wanting to buy the toys if they don't see the mecha in one episode. I miss the days when shows could go for several episodes before they even obtain the combined form, and then have episodes sprinkled throughout that don't require it, and instead, focus on plot. Speaking of plot, they hinted at Takeru being a kagemusha since the very beginning of the series. It was so obvious I am surprised none of us realized this ahead of time. You had the episode with the monster that insults people, who called Takeru and liar and that he was hiding something. Then you had his refusal to give up the seal when he was poisoned and his conversation with Juuzo that followed that. The signs were all there from the beginning, which I felt really helped strengthen this show the second time around. In the end, the show is actually a pretty damn good show despite its flaws and low points. I can now see why people praise it, but at the same time, I still do not think it is the greatest Sentai series ever. While this show still will not hit my top 10 list, it has definitely moved up several notches from what it was before. Overall, I give Shinkenger a 7/10 stars. Oh yeah, Shinkenger Returns... sucked. When Returns is in front of something, and it is said to be a sequel to the series, you expect it to feature a reunion of the characters or something. Instead, it felt like a standard 22 minute episode stretched out to 50 minutes just because they had to justify it being an individual DVD release. The worst part is, I normally love these dimensional illusion episodes, but this was just boring to watch for some reason. It also did not help that it just started with some random nonsense to the point I was about to turn it off during the cops portion of it, and really wanted to turn it off during the Mako concert crap. Anyway, that is it from me. Tomorrow, I start Power Rangers Samurai. |
So I found this pretty cool special opening of Timeranger.

Oh yeah, that is the opening to the 51st episode of Time Ranger.

Been watching Goranger. So far I'm on episode 19. The show is pretty campy but I find myself quite enjoying even though I'm watching it raw. I did notice that the show suffers from actor availability from time to time. For several episodes you'd only have a couple of the cast be in most of the episode while the others would only make small out of suit appearances. On ep 12 Ao didn't even appear out of suit at all. This far in I find that my favorites are Peggy/Momo and Asuka/Mido. Peggy because I'm a guy and I like to look at pretty Japanese women and her fight scenes are always fun to watch. Lisa Komaki really sells her fights well. Asuka sold me when in one ep while he was chasing the Black Cross Army he was shot point blank out of suit then was hit by a cannonball thrice before the enemy could get away from him. That was just pretty bad ass.

Let it be known that J is my favorite ranger in both sentai and Power rangers.

Go-Busters 10 and 11
10 was the classic family member disagrees with your choice to be a Ranger, I liked the focus on Nick, but I feel this episode would have been better if it was done later, because we know very little about Hiromu's sister at this point. 11 however was pretty good, Gorisaki relationship with Ryuuji was the focus, and there was no Go-BusterOh, so in my book this one was a win. |
Goranger eps 20-24. It was a good set of eps.
20 dealt with the death of Sun Mask, one of the Black Cross Generals. What I learned from this episode was that you do not let foot soldiers guard your base as Peggy and Asuka manage to casually stroll towards them before disposing of them without them noticing. Seriously Peggy and Asuka were walking towards them not even hiding or using a diversion. 21-23 were a set of eps regarding this Airship that the new Black Cross General Iron Man Mask wanted. He apparently wanted to use it to drop bombs at a volcano to make it erupt. 24 was a Mido Ranger episode. It started with him and Peggy retrieving a code from one of their allies. While on their way back to base they were ambushed by the Kamen of the Week. As they were making their escape, the Kamen started taunting them and Asuka fell for the goading and started to fight as Peggy was trying to restrain him. They eventually lost and had to retreat but the enemy has taken hold of the code. Asuka was obviously pissed with himself and when the rest of the team went to fight the enemy, he was told to stay behind. Thinking he was being benched their commander told him to think of a way to beat the Kamen. So he modified his Midomerang for the second time to make it multiply when it gets deflected. Now I don't know what kind of science he used to achieve that, the only thing I can think of was the Shadow Shuriken Technique you see in Naruto. |
So I went to watch Maskman and I'm not sure what it was, but I could barely get past the first episode. I remember finding the show to be boring raw, but I figured it would be a lot different now that I can see it subbed. Today I plan to watch a few more in hopes I was just having an off-moment.
|
^^ I felt the same way originally, plus the background music is TERRIBLE. But like any other Sentai, good or bad, I continued watching and enjoyed it very much especially during the second half. As of right now I'm currently watching Kakuranger as GUIS is subbing them.

Go-Busters 12-14
The Actress arc was ok, however seeing the guys doing more covert missions was great. As for 13-14 I loved it, Enter plan was kinda obvious, but I can't get mad at that guy :p Plus the Buddyroids riding Nick :lolol And the Buddyroids birthday was very heartwarming. Also Beet buster and Stag buster! Edit: 15 Quite good! I haven't actually watched Den-O but J and Jin really remind me of Deneb and Yuuto. :lol good pair. Their synchronized transformation is awesome. |
So I just watched Shinkenger vs Go-Onger and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I don't like everything that was done in the movie (such as Juuzo getting beat by the Goseigers and the mecha), but it was not a bad movie as a whole.
|
Just got back into Gingaman and why does Hayate faint after he eats a biscuit covered in honey? Is the weakness that he eats honey and enters a euphoric bliss or is he allergic to honey or what?
Also are the Gingamen's civilian garb supposed to make me think of Native Americans? EDIT:So he's just scared of honey because of a bee sting? Huh. |
Gobusters 21.
I kept watching and i kept saying out loud to noone in particular... You guys are idiots. |
Paused Go-Busters on ep. 22 and tried to start Kyoryuger but it didn't really click so I just started watching Gokaiger instead.
|
I'm starting to think about giving GoBusters a second chance.
|
i just started magiranger ep 2 and im surprised theres 6 sentai heroes from start (7 if you count wolkaiser i know he becomes good in power rangers so maybe in magirangers to). once ive finished watching magiranger ill go back to gaoranger (im on ep 13) then abaranger (im on ep 2) shinkenger (im on ep 10) then back to gokaiger (im on ep 5) then ill start go-onger. and while sentai is more childish then kamen rider i still like it (of course having said that ive only watched den-o which is supposed to be childish by kamen rider standards)
