I guess they didn't think OO's through...But if he could rewrite their DNA, couldn't he give every ranger every set of powers? |
Dairanger 9. The deciding episode! And it's Daigo focused one!
I laughed so hard at the unintentional nastiness. Lin suggests trying to the mirror on herself, as it only takes young and beautiful women, to which the team reply with 'don't be so stupid'. I know both are joking, but come on guys, have some tact. Although she totally looks like a dude. Then again, the general reactions from the team, when they learn who is behind all this, only highlights how weak they are as a team. Even Daigo was a bit of a dick this episode, which really seemed out of character with how he has been presented so far. This show is so camp, which at times is fun, but at others distracting. The stories presented are epic, but 'Master Mirror Makeup' who uses a mirror with a tongue to convert vain people into energy? Wut? And Kujaku, the Peacock Buddha? All I could think of was http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__...2ganzkrper.jpg. Anyway, Kujaku must totally suck, to be defeated by that Mirror Dude who was really quite crap. Probably the crappiest of the week monster so far. Master Mirror was years ahead of his time though, what would he do today, where men seem to wear more makeup and spend longer on their hair and chasing fashion than women do? He'd probably implode in on himself. The fights are still great though, I love the focus on the individual, as well as the team, giving them each their own unique power and fighting style. There is still way too much focus on Red, as there always is, but the rest of the team don't feel quite as much like spare parts in other series but the focus on them never feels quite as forced either. Plus, although extremely low budget, low possibly some of the lowest I've seen from sentai, I like how that doesn't stop it from having ambition. The amount of chaos Gorma cause on an episode to episode basis is absolute craziness, I'm surprised there is anything left of the people and the city the Dairanger's inhabit. Do I feel better about Dairanger than I did before, now? Do I want to keep watching? Honestly, yeah. When I watched it the first time around, none of this footage was used for Power Rangers (well minus the mech stuff) so I had no expectations whatsoever and all I had to go on was people claiming this was one of the greatest sentais ever made. What I got was this rushed, garbled, confused mess of awesome suits and stunning action sequences. And although it hasn't quite shaken itself free from that opinion, pushing past those first few very rough episodes, the show really starts to open up and gather more focus, suggesting that what is to come is gonna be epic, huge and high camp and I'm fucking excited as hell. And since I've just watched a fifth of the show already.... Quote:

Actually, it is explained in the next episode how Kujaku was trapped in the mirror.
I love the scene where the guy starts looking at himself in the mirror and is eaten only to be spat out with the monster yelling at him. |
Dairanger 10. It's nice to have some more backstory, but I would like someone to explain why the Dairanger's themselves are exclusive to the present, but everyone else was there 6,000 years ago. Why is everyone able to live so long? If they had access to the Dairanger powers, why not use them in the past?
Still, it's cool to have some badass women, after watching so much Kamen Rider I started to forget women existed. I love Gara's weird sword thing. And their rematch really was very enjoyable, the special effects aren't great, but the ideas are. Everyone just has such insane powers, and it's really like TTGL in the way it's so balls to the wall with everything. People are firing energy blasts, using telekinesis, breathing fire, turning into spirit animals and that's like a minute of screen time. Although, the episode kinda ruined that, with how Daigo is just obsessed with her from the word go, for no reason at all. And when she turns round and almost kills him with a couple of burning daggers, he only falls harder. So all the Dairanger's got an upgrade on their rods now? I like how Daigo got a proper introduction for his, and everyone else gets them just because. It was also kinda weird that 'Lion Style' includes a move of complete calm, I mean the scene is kinda cool, but I wouldn't have expected that from a Lion, even if it isn't mean literally. I think I spoke too soon with how this show handles the Rangers, Zaku has had no focus at all. Lin found out just how important she was, before she vanished into the background, Ryou has had focus on principle of him being red and Shouji got one arc dedicated to him but seems to have nothing wider going on so he too vanished into the background, bar a few aggressive outbursts now and then. Why was Cherry Blossom even here though? He made like one pointless unmorphed fight happen, and then for the rest of the episode stood in the background being a dick. |
Dairanger 11. After pretty much solid story focus from the start, I thought it was about time for some throwaway filler crap. So this week Shouji got the hots for some chick, or some shit, I don't know.
This weeks villain was another creepy oddbally over acting weirdo, who broke the fourth wall! Weird how some of these guys have human forms, while a lot of them don't. His monster form looked fucking cheap as hell. Also, the fuck is gauss? And why wouldn't he recognise the Dairanger's? For a show so incredibly goofy, the Rangers sure seem to be on the left foot...like all the time. |
Father Magnet just down right rocks!!! Wait until the next episode, as it is also one of my favorite stand alones.
|
Dairanger 12. I would complain it's more inane filler, I mean tofu hermit what the fuck? but it's actually centred around Kazu who has done fuck all in this show yet, so it's about time he got to do something.
I do like the little touches, in this show, like the fact that they bothered to give each Dairanger a unique martial art, so they make sure they use it unmorphed fighting just as much as morphed. Helps keep the illusion that it is actually them in the suit, even when you know it isn't. And Drunken Fist is just a really fun to watch martial art. How the fuck does the timeline of this episode even work? They showed scenes mixed together of Daigo and Shouji sobering and Kazu and the drinking contest, so how could the sober Daigo and Shouji have rigged the drinking contest? And why was the 'water', orange? Getting drunk, for kids! |
Dairanger 13. More filler, more weirdos. Kabuki Boy has to have one of the worst suit designs I think I've ever seen. He was also so fucking annoying, in moderation it could have been amusing but Jesus, SHUT THE FUCK UP.
It's kinda fitting that some weird old man is the reason for the Aura Changers. And then he went and flat out murdered someone? Dafuq. Right after he gave Lin that speech about murder! |
Dairanger 14. I'm confused. The Dairanger's defeated the Archbishop, who was able to catch the Qi-Bomber in one hand and deflect it. The Dairanger's struggle against the Gorma, but all three of them are needed to deflect the attack. Shouldn't they be easy for the Dairanger's to beat, then? Plus why did the Gorma get stronger by closing their eyes? It looked so stupid.
Oh well, this whole arc seemed largely purposeless, an elaborate way to introduce a new Dairanger, who isn't Tommy. I hope for all this drawn out nonsense, this new Dairanger is actually good, especially considering the core five have had barely any spot light time as it is. |
Dude, how can you say these two episodes were pointless? They just gave you their purpose a few times over. The Byakkoshinken and the Dairinkens. That is pretty important.
You complain when Sentai series are 80% filler and 20% story, but now with DaiRanger, you are still complaining even though it is 75% story and 25% filler. HOt damn dude, you take my negativity to a whole new level. BTW, 1 archbishop is not as strong as 3 generals. And of course the sixth is NOT going to be Tommy, Tommy is PR, this is DaiRanger! I feel like you are watching these shows just to criticize them and not enjoy them. |
Quote:
Well that Archbishop seemed stronger, as he deflected the attack on his own. The Tommy thing was a joke, bro... And criticising shows is how I enjoy them. |
Dairanger 15. The episode where the leader of our team of heroes abandons his friends, and then almost gets killed by a bunch of comic relief characters because of it. God the Dairanger's are awful. I like how the sixth Ranger will be arriving any episode soon and the core team still haven't got their shit together.
The Three Stooges were pretty cool, as far as that goes for the villains in this show. It's just a shame they wanted to play football, rather than actually fight. Still, with the rules of this show, the goofier you are and the sillier your plan, the more the Dairanger's get creamed. Also giant footballs. Why are brothers and sisters so creepy in Toku? Your sister should never think 'being cute' is an argument to hang out with her. Also, why has there been no scenes between these two? Ryou learnt their Dad wasn't dead, but a 6000 year old super villain, I mean I guess I can understand him keeping that to himself but don't you think they'd talk about something related to it? Seems unfair to leave her totally in the dark, even if that might be for the best. Hey look Kazu remembered he can control fucking time itself. |

I found Kabuki Boy infuriating levels of irritating. And no, the other stuff doesn't matter, but it legitimises my criticisms when your defence for all the random shit padding the arc out is the forum equivalent of a shoulder shrug. |
I thought Kabuki Boy was really funny, especially his random-ass robot... But I do admit the cliffhanger "OMG, murder and the Dairangers look like they'll be blamed" ending in completely nothing was a bit lame.
The Three Stooges are still my favourite characters of the show though! |
Quote:
But yeah, that Kabuki arc was dumb, I mean sure the Stooges thing was dumb as well, but at least they contained it in a single episode and didn't add one sentence of story focus to try and pretend it was worthwhile. |
Dairanger 16. The episode where Ryou is a dumbass, finding lots of children turned to stone, he still questions whether it was Gorma behind it. Then again, it is Japan, so there are probably more people with that ability than we realise...
It wasn't all bad though, Kujaku was back, who is one of the coolest characters in the show. She is especially awesome, as Sentai is a franchise notorious for treating women awfully, so to see such a badass female character is really rewarding. And I love how whenever she is around, we get loads of focus on Daigo as well, who is the only member of the Dairanger's I genuinely like. It was also nice to have a genuinely terrifying villain for once as well, Funeral Ventriloquist and his creepy as puppet thing was fucking nightmare fuel. Even when he made Daigo dance, there was something so creepy and sinister about it. His showdown with Daigo was just epic. And then that twist, awesome! Man that electronic guitar they use for dramatic scenes is seriously fucking awesome. |

Dairanger 17. Kibaranger is some perverted brat? Oh man, suddenly the idea of Genta doesn't seem so bad... Not that Shouji was much better, as much of a dick as Kou is, heroes shouldn't threaten to beat up children.
Those Priestess things sure looked crappy. Although I can't tell if they were more naff than when a random old man and kid just rode up, ended the action scene and then left. It makes me laugh how much Kaku is like Zordon, at least in the being the dick department. 'Oh I have important information, but oh well I'll keep it to myself unless the Dairanger's bring it up, doodeedoo.' ASSHOLE. |
Dairanger 18. They did such a good job of making Kou feel like a real kid, whether it was him actually feeling emotions, and not just charging into battle or enjoying his powers. Seeing him work with the sword is really fun as well.
It's just a shame that his actual powers kinda suck, he has like...his own band...or something? What does that have to do with his theme? And does anyone wanna explain the talking sword? Or why it can give him an adults body? Guess not... Wow, this episode made me hate the core Dairangers even more. Pretending to be the kids dead Mum what the FUCK. And Ryou of all people is really the only one who had issue with this? It's actually completely out of Daigo's character to go along with this shit. If that kid and the old guy can jump cut anywhere on the planet, why does he need a cart? And if he will use a vehicle, why does he use a cart when the other three Gorma fellows drive around in cars? |
Dairanger 19. Kibaranger is my favourite character in this show. I love how they've handled Kiba, making him really interesting to watch and discover but also constructing him in that fashion that every kid will be fighting over who gets to be him in the playground.
But then the Kou side is handled just as well, Kou being a kid doesn't just feel like some cheap novelty, he genuinely feels like a child. I'm just really impressed how well they've handled a character that could have easily gone horrible wrong. Shouji's showdown with the ring priestess was pretty fun as well, even if I don't really care about Tenmaranger as a character (I may as well count him as his own character because him and Shouji are so totally different). |
Yes, it is amazing at how well they wrote Kou, as being a kid, he could have gone really bad. Fortunately, they treated him like a child, wrote him like a child, so it all worked. And the only reason he turns into an adult-ish (still not quite there) body when tenshined is to hide his identity for being a kid.

Watched More of Gokaiger, episodes 27-29 and really love this whole team and loved the Abaranger and Jetman tribute episodes. Black Condor is really badass. Need to watch more of this, I watch it with my friends.
|
Dairanger 20. The episode where Dairanger became Wizard for a bit, luckily Kou didn't give into despair, so maybe now he can become a Wizard. When Shouji is the voice of reason, you know you have issues.
There was some great action this week, as well. I love seeing the big bad's get involved directly. Also, seeing Kou punch Akoumaru repeatedly in the face was fucking amazing. Still kinda sucks that Kibaranger's power is just a shittier version of Daigo's. Man I don't get how the Gorma work at all, what the fuck is this hierarchy? |
Go-Busters 24, how I missed you.
A Hiromu episode telling us more about his school days, it was actually quite heartwarming to see the always serious Hiromu enjoying himself so much. |
I'm watching Goseiger vs Shinkenger.

Go-Busters 25: First half is done for. J being on the front finally serves a good purpose :lol, Ryuuji keeps thinking about Hyperspace, and I still don't like Escape.
So standard Go-busters fare, so far so good. |
