The JP version comes out April 29th but it looks like it doesn't have subs
|
Well April's certainly going to be a big month of shows.
But this looks great! It's always nice to see Tsuburaya bring in Ultra characters who haven't appeared in ages. I wouldn't be surprised if The Next or Nexus shows up in one of these. |

In Trigger we got a new group of Giants Of Darkness that where based off the ones from Final Odyssey here though judging from the description it seems like the Sphere are exactly the same from Dyna.
|
Dyna's even more of a big nostalgia spot for me than Tiga was so I think I probably will end up checking Decker out despite how unenthused I was with Trigger... Decker's version of Strong and Miracle actually look really cool too >_<!
|
There was a BGM Collection released recently, and included tracks from Z and Trigger, so we finally have clean versions of those

As of last night, I managed to finish Ultraseven and also watched two more episodes of Ultraman Tiga.
|
Ultraman 80 is so painfully boring! I haven't been this bored forcing myself to watch it since Dyna.
At least it's done with the school stuff. |
Just finished watching the fifth disc of the Ultraman Tiga DVD set today. I should be able to finish the series either this week or very early on the next.
|
As of last night, I managed to finish Ultraman Tiga and I got to say that I really am glad that I decided to buy the DVD series set. It's honestly a shame The Final Odyssey movie doesn't come with the main series as a special feature though.

A new set of cards for the UR Orb Ring, both old cars reprinted and new ones, has been announced.

fusion overload
time to become Ultra-god |
There are cards for the Absolutians??
|
I wonder if confirms some fan theories about the Absolutians' relations to the Ultras.
I thought one of the "Secrets" might be the female Absolutian, but is the A and B constituting the fact that they're form changes? |
I mean given the Absolutians are Ultra Adjacent (Especially with what we've seen of the Destined Crossroads Prologue they put out) it makes sense they'd be given cards of some kind.
|
Got the Ultraseven X blu-ray in today and checked out the first episode. It is very much a mid-00s tokusatsu, but I kinda dig the "Blade Runner on a much, much smaller budget" aesthetic. The ending theme is fucking terrible, though.
|
If you needed a reason to see the English Dub of The Destined Crossroad, then how about Ramirez from Kyoryuger doing the Dub Voice of Zearth and Hilltop from LuPat doing the Dub Voice of Nice?

I can hear the sub supremacists coming to kill from here
|
I'll need to hear the dub but also I think it's kinda annoying they're seemingly locking us out of the original Japanese audio for the dub for like the release we have to pay for. I appreciate them doing a dub but man... uh... I would not pay for that? It having been free on Youtube? Yeah I'd have been fine with it, but pay for? Uh... no...
No offense to any of the English actors but like... most of the work on the English version UGF series isn't... that great for a dub. There are like, a few exceptions (scenes) to that rule though. And even then some of those scenes are mostly me sorta laughing at some of the bad line reads. Neat to see those two taking a crack at Ultra's though, will admit that. But that's all it really is to me, neat. |
I have nothing against a dub, it's cool Robert Baldwin and Ike Nwala are in this, but I've been watching Ultra subbed so I want to hear these characters with their actual voices and not a dub VA's I've only heard in commercials.
(Which, okay, all the Ultra Brothers have new VA's in this but still...) Like, Zero is Mamoru Miyano. Z's not going to feel the same without Tasuku Hatanaka. I don't know if all the New Gen's are going to get lines but Riku dealing with a time-displaced version of his dad is going to feel off without Tatsuomi Hamada. I can see why they would want to have a dub available for anyone who is not a sub-watcher, but I would think a good portion of their audience or anyone who has watched Ultraman enough would be used to it subbed. |
I finished R/B
I think I like the movie more than the series also Orb Dark was a character I wish wound up being more than comedic relief and eventually just killed. Is Gruebe entirely CGI |
I feel like R/B is a show that really grows on you over time and you learn to embrace what works for it (the comedy, the kind of low-key vibe, the strong family dynamic, etc.).
I'm curious to see what Takasue does on a more traditional Ultra show like Decker is shaping up to be. |
R/B is great, I just think people don't give it a fair chance because it's more comedic than the standard Ultra series. Agreed that Aizen is fantastic up until he gets casually written off. It's a sharp pivot I don't entirely understand.
And yes, Gruebe was 100% CGI, apparently due to time constraints and the complexity of the action scenes. |

Having seen a bunch of Ultras by now, R/B is still one of my favourites. Like Ginga it's not your typical Ultra fare and I can see that turning a lot of fans off, but go in accepting it on its own terms and you'll find a lot to love. Easily one of my favourite family-centred Tokusatsu shows
|
It's a nice number 3 for me
Orb/Geed are tied for 1, Z is 2, Ginga is 4, Ginga S is 5 and X is 6 I wanna watch Taiga |
I finished 80. It was an unfocused boring mess. That's all that you need for me to say.
EDIT: Made a tier list of the shows I've seen so far https://images2.imgbox.com/17/7d/LaRgF3vX_o.png |
I remember R/B being the first Ultra Show I watched raw (the first episode at least), but I really loved it from the start, even considering it the Fourze of New Gen Ultra.
I liked 80, but it was that final episode that absolutely won me, seeing UGM take out a monster without the aid of 80 was just so good. I do agree it's messy, it loses its theme at times, but I enjoyed it. Anyway, The Destined Crossroads Opening! Late this month, looking forward to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0vs-p4-yk8 |
I'm very tempted to and eventually will re-watch R/B. It was, until Trigger came along, easily my least favorite of the New Generation shows. Even though at the time I fully admitted it was not a bad show, and I only had to rank it that low because every other one was better to me.
But now I realize a lot of that was due to the designs not working for me, which is something I can overlook nowadays, and also the fact that it was not broadcasted to the west. Geed was the last show to stream on Crunchyroll IIRC, then that deal ended and - nothing until Taiga aired on YouTube. So R/B was out in the wild only and got no real coverage. One group started, stopped, then only sporadic updates and a cancellation until a new group entirely emerged and finished it. But that meant a lot of breaks in between and a lot of frustration trying to watch the show. I'm not an entitled "yOu OWe ME mY sUBs"-idiot, I know what we enjoy is brought to us by the sacrifice of free time and hard work others muster and I'm grateful for it. But R/B suffered for me personally because of this situation, I think I even grew annoyed at it a little, so all that is just on me for being a weak human being. I want to give it another chance eventually. Because honestly, I only have fond memories of it. The characters were fun and wholesome, the action was great, and the villains were a pure delight. Aizen was great and Saki - I adore her. Her relationship with Asahi was fantastic, every scene they shared was a treat. I'm looking forward to watching it again. |

I felt nothing about Saki either way. She just happened and left me confused about what they wanted from me
