Anyway, I'm glad it's not a Goblin, since Spider-Man movies involving the Goblin tend to suck hard (Note how the 2 good movies left him out nearly entirely :lol) |

So they choose Robbie, but they don't give him is signature style (Including the hole in his head constantly spewing flames)?
Jesus, I do hope GR gets the Netflix series he deserves... |
So this is from the letters section of a Dec 1975 X-Men comic. I guess people have always been complaining about the state of comics well before the internet existed. :-D

Didn't DC get waves of hate from killing Robin off back in, like, 88?
There was no escape from the hate in the comic book world :p |

It's widely rumored that about 100-300 votes were made by one man through call machine, which makes the narrow margin of the results (Yes beat out No by 72) all the worse. However, it's unsubstantiated and was only speculated on years later. |
You know, if nothing else, I hope Beast has the worst happen to him in Inhumans vs. X-men. That little shit's been nothing but a whiny hypocrite since leaving back in the Utopia island days, what with letting Logan continue X-force in their school after bitching at Scott for signing off on that and keeping it a secret (which is exactly what he ended up doing with the school's faculty), or going crazy sooner than Scott when he came under the influence of a cosmic power (Black Vortex), or just that Illuminati bullshit of blowing up alternate Earths to save their own, and the big plan that all these geniuses who are so "better" than everyone else is just a larger form of "blow it up" they usually give the macho military guys shit for employing.
Beast working for the Inhumans (granted, to try and find a peaceful solution to the Terrigen mist poison, but given his track record with No More Mutants I think much of his chances) just ended my tolerance for the character, at least the comic book version. |

Which is great because I love Robbie as Ghost Rider. Quote:
Yes, that one. http://static2.comicvine.com/uploads...cacomics01.jpg |
So I finished the final disc to X-Men and hot damn, except for two to three episodes, they were down right dreadful. The two parter where Storm suffers from Stockholm Syndrome is by far the worst multipart episode of the entire series, but even that was no where near as bad as some of the episodes on this disc. The Jubilee story time episode was just so dumb and boring. On the other hand, The Fifth Horsemen was a decent episode even though we never saw Jubilee meet Caliban before, so her just knowing him out of the blue makes no sense. We also have no idea who he is or why he becomes the way he does by Cortez at all. The ending is kind of cool, but since this is the last appearance of Apocalypse ever in this universe, it becomes a tad meaningless.
The Captain America one is average. It's cool to see Wolverine and Cap working together, but that is about all the episode has going for it. Thankfully, the following episode that deals with Mr Sinister's origins more than make up for any of the episodes that came before it on the disc because this one is amazing. It is hands down one of the best episodes of the entire series. Not to mention it not featuring any X-Men was unheard of. Sadly, that episode is followed by one of the worst in the series. Now Rogue can suddenly touch people without them passing out? WHAT?! She touches Cannonball, she touches Gambit, she touches other people without any repercussions, which means the animators weren't even paying attention to what they were doing. LAZY!! The ending doesn't hold any meaning either with The Right given that they are never heard from again after this. Alternatively, Graduation Day is a phenomenal finale to a truly spectacular cartoon series. It feels rushed and they should have made this a multi-part episode, but it is an ending and one of the best ways they could have ended the show on. To be fair though, I never knew this was originally the series finale because Fox never advertised it as such. I never even knew the show was over until a local comic shop employee told me in the summer of 98 that GD was the series finale. Overall, this show has been a blast to revisit. There are episodes that I never want to sit through again, but as a whole, I will definitely be watching the vast majority of it again in the future. There were a few areas that didn't make sense when it came to the original X-Men team because there were flashback scenes that showed Angel was part of the team, even though that was contradicted way back in the first season when they met Warren for the very first time. Even Shard says, "He will one day join up with the X-Men," also stating he has never been part of the team before. My favorite episode of the series (counting all multiparters as one story) is probably The Dark Phoenix Saga, followed by The Phoenix Saga, Beyond Good and Evil, and Bloodlines. The worst episode is easily Longshot, with Hidden Agenda, Storm Front, and A Merry Morlock Christmas right behind it. It is a shame that the show lost a lot of its story driven elements during the third season, as that really sets it apart from other comic cartoons. Nevertheless, it was truly nice to revisit this show after a decade (if not longer). Well, now to try and look to see if X-Men Evolution was ever released on DVD. |

I just hope it has more plot than sex scenes like JJ did. You could cut out 3 episodes if you removed all of the sex scenes.

X-Men updates from me:
Omnibus read: I just finished the issues where they are beaten by Magneto again and this series continues to impress me. Even the filler issue with Warhawk was an enjoyable one. One of the things I am loving about this series and have been surprised at is how continuous the plots are. It makes me think of manga. Of course, it's funny though because I complain about how tired I am of there being no stand alone stories anymore in comics, as everything is written for the graphic novel, but here, I am loving this series because it is a continuous story. Either it's because I have the whole story right in front of me to read at one time or it's just because the writing is that damn good. Of course, it still does have those issues that feel like a stand alone moment, so that could also be why I don't mind it so much. On the other hand, the whole "six month old babies" concept was kind of dumb, like really dumb. That just doesn't make any sense to me and seems kind of goofy for comics from the late 70s, but whatever. I was also surprised to learn that Magneto has already constructed Asteroid M. I thought that was a 90s thing. Anyway, I can't wait to continue and because I just sold off some stuff I have ordered the next two Omnibuses because I've decided I want to read this entire run in order as far as I can even though I just read the Dark Phoenix and Days of Future Past stuff a month ago. X-Men Evolution stuff: So we just finished episode five of season 2 and this show is not as good as I remember. Well, scratch that, season 2 so far is not as good as I remember while the first season is just as mediocre as my memory serves me. I hate Spyke. I really hate Spyke. He takes the worst aspects of Morph and cranks them up to 500. The animation is nice though while the music is unfortunately pretty forgettable. I'm also not a fan of Megatron being Xavier nor Black Arachnia being Jean. Oh, and sometimes McNeil is great as Wolverine while other times he just doesn't seem to fit. Other than those, I really have no complaints on the voice acting. Well, except maybe for Havok because god dammit all I see when he speaks is Kira Yamato. That is all I have right now for my thoughts on Evolution. It does have some funny moments, especially when dealing with Kitty and Nightcrawler, but for the most part, it's kind of bland. |
Well I just completed the first Uncanny Omnibus and my god I am so impressed with this entire series right now. Chris and gang have provided some of the best comics I have ever read and I have read a ton of stuff. These may even be better than the best Spider-Man stories I have ever read, and a ton of DC stuff.
Nevertheless, that doesn't mean everything was perfect. I don't remember exactly where I last gave my insight on what I read, but there were some so-so things that occured in this batch. First, I loved that the X-Men got their asses handed to them by Magneto and never really came out on top despite stopping him for the time being. The Savage Land stuff with Garrock was a mixed bag. I enjoyed it, but they never bothered to explain who Sauron or Garrock were, so if I had no knowledge of them before (or the animated adaptation of this story), I would have been lost. As such, even though I enjoyed it, I have to nitpick the poor writing. The same goes for the story in Japan, sadly. I enjoyed it, but it was poorly paced and I have no idea who this Magnum guy was as I had never heard of him before. Also, who the hell is Colleen? She just appears, is suddenly in love with Cyclops, makes no mention of Jean, and they are going out with each other like nothing. But then she is never mentioned again the moment Cyke finds out Jean is still alive. I'm getting ahead of myself though. I'm not really a fan of Alpha Flight, but I would be lying if I said the two issues with them were bad. That was a really great way to introduce this team for the very first time as they made great rivals to the X-Men. Still trying to figure out why the government doesn't suddenly recognize Wolverine's resignation when they had no issue with it in Giant Sized though. The Murderworld arc was fantastic. I highly enjoyed that and felt like the writing finally started to get back on top, especially as we entered the Proteus story. Holy ****, that was dark and intense, especially coming off just recently watching the animated version of that story. And then of course, it ends with the first three issues of the Dark Phoenix Saga that I read last month, but to have them in better quality and bigger is wonderful. In fact, I can't see myself ever reading these stories again in normal comic book size. I do need to address the biggest poorly written story in this book though, and that was the Annual. Perez's art was great, but the rest of the story was pretty bad. Not as bad as the animated version of it where they gave Storm stockholm syndrome, but still bad enough compared to the rest of the stories. This random guy shows up, threatens to kill Jarvis because reasons, and then heads off to beat the crap out of the X-Men because he wants Storm. He teleports Storm to his world against her will but then the next time we see her, which is probably like an hour later, she is willing to sacrifice her life for this planet because... why? We don't see anything nor are told anything that makes her want to willingly help these people out. None of it makes any sense and the whole story is just bad. Then Arkon just suddenly has a compelte personality change in the last few pages, which goes against how he acted throughout the entire story and it sounds like he acted this way in his previous appearances. This story could have used another 20 pages to tell its story as it feels like an abridged version to it. The other thing that bothers me about the whole series is how much they belittled Phoenix in the middle of it. It's like they made her so powerful they had no idea what to do with her, so they had to dumb her down. Fortunately, the writing is so good that I can easily let it slide, but I did feel the need to mention it. Well that is it until the next volume arrives, which looks like it should be hopefully tomorrow. In the meantime, I guess I should read through my backlog of Rebirth comics. |

The Avengers show up, but not very often. Cloak and Dagger played a marginally more substantive role in the series. |

X-Men Omnibus Volume 2 Update - I just hit the Marvel Tales stuff, but I'm not sure why they are in the book before X-Men 151-153 since they came out like 7 months after those issues.
Honestly, I've got to say that issues 145-150 were kind of weak. I liked the one with Cyclops and Man-Thing, but it ends with Lee in the hospital. Suddenly, in the next issue Cyclops and Lee are stranded on some island. WTF? Instead of telling us this happened, they should have shown us this happen because that is a pretty god damn important event. How did they get from the hospital to being on the open sea? What happened to her crew? Were they with her? Did they survive? Also, I felt the story with Garrock was mediocre and didn't make sense. Another thing that bugs me was the Avengers annual being in the middle of this story arc. Issue 150 seems to have the X-Men on their way back from the battle with Garrock, but the story with Rogue takes place over the course of several weeks and Miss Marvel is with Prof X in 150. Huh? So how long were Scott and Lee guests of Magneto? It ddn't seem like they were there for more than a few days. On the other hand, I'm going to guess this is where they really started to turn Magneto into more than just a one dimensional villain, right? None of the other issues I have read seemed to talk about Magneto's imprisonment during WWII. If so, then issue 150 does have some major revelations to it, which boosts it up quite a bit. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed these issues, but I don't feel they are up to par with everything that occurred before them. Oh, and X-Men Annual 5 was average. I didn't like how Sue seemed to be vastly inexperienced and needed support to help her both emotionally and physically just to handle a situation. That felt very out of character with the Sue Storm I have read about. The stuff dealing with Arkon was not bad this time around, but I just don't think he is all that great of a character. The scene between Thing and Colossus arm wrestling was priceless though. Lastly, it seems like the letters page is not present on the vast majority of issues in this book. What gives? Were they too damaged to remaster or did they just not exist to begin with? Well that is all I have to report on my X-Men reading at the moment. EDIT: I finished X-Men Evolution today and overall, it was an average series. Hell, most of the series was more of a high school drama than a super hero show. It also never made sense at times because we had one episode where the second door to Apocalypse was opened, but then the next episode has the team on a cruise. WTF?! Yeah, let's forget that the world is close to coming to end so we can have a trip to the Bahamas. Also, except for the Brotherhood, none of the villains were every truly developed and there were a lot of loose plot threads that were left hanging. Like what was the point of introducing Legion and having him leave saying he would be back if he actually wasn't? Oh, and while I liked the stuff with Apocalypse as a whole, the main attraction was barely on screen and pretty much did nothing. In fact, he was just as bad as the current movie version we have. WOW!! The Four Horsemen didn't even make sense because there was nothing in their powers to make them resemble the characters. Magneto was probalby war, but Xavier, Storm, and Mystique do not fit the bill for the other three Horsemen. Another thing I didn't like was how Wolverine stopped using his brownish orange costume to suddenly wear a black, maskless outfit. What the hell was up with that? It was a pointless change and didn't fit when no one else changed their costumes. The animation was pretty good for the most part though and the music was adequate. Some of the voices were completely miscast though while others, like Kitty, were purrfect. :D Although, since I had just come of watching Gundam Seed and Destiny I couldn't help but make references to the characters they voiced there (like Moonstar being Flay and the Hydra Scientist being Ramius). In the end, this show was a mixed bag. It had a lot of entertaining moments, but there was just way too much fluff and filler without enough super heroing around. My favorite episodes would have to include Dark Horizons, Walk on the Wild Side, Self-Possessed, and Ghost of a Chance. My least favorite episodes are really anything that featured Spyke as the main focus and Sins of the Son. I'm just glad I didn't spend money to see this series over again. Oh, and Hulu also seems to have the 90s Spider-Man cartoon on it, so I guess I've got a little less than a month to get through it before my free trial ends. Why can't they just put it out on DVD? |
Started watching Ultimate Spider-Man because the current Spider-Verse story arc sounds really cool. Plus I got the first 5 episodes free by playing Avengers Academy. Didn't realize just how many there were to go before catching up...
Not sure I will. I really, really don't like this fourth wall business. I doubt it'll change much as the show goes on either. Might just cherry pick the story arcs that sound interesting rather than watching everything and hope for the best. |
So I finished the 90s Spider-Man toon and boy was that final season terrible. The Six Forgotten Warriors arc was down right boring and I do not like how lackluster they treated both Red Skull and Cap. However, that is nothing compared to the insulting MJ is a water clone that followed it. That was a total cop out and one of the biggest middle fingers they could have given their audience. Whoever thought that was a good idea was a stupid idiot and this show deserved to get canceled after that abomination of an idea. Now, I have never read Secret Wars, so I have no idea if the storyarc was even remotely close to the comics, but I have a feeling it was not. The treatment they gave Cap continued to be detrimental to the character and this is exactly the reason why I never bothered to try to be a Cap fan back then. This show did the character a horrible injustice. Of course, they couldn't even get the FF right here. Hell, the movies have done a better job at portraying the family that this travesty. Ben is written to be a complete and utter moron and Sue is even more useless. Not just that, but Doom doesn't even speak in third person. At least they got his arrogance right.
Finally, we come to the original Spider-Verse. I do like the idea that Spider-Carnage is the final villain for the series, but this story should have really been a five parter as it is extremely rushed and we don't even get a proper ending for Peter and MJ. Overall, I am so glad to be done with this show. It was not what I remembered it to be which is a shame because I expected to feel less about X-Men and that show holds up quite well today. This show is the exact opposite of that with poor animation, terrible editing, bad characterization and the plot is god awful, especially for the final two seasons. I have no idea why they chose to go with a children's version of The Death of Gwen Stacy for the end of the third season, but that was a far better ending than what we got. Either way, MJ is lost, but at least it would have had some dignity left. The voice acitng is really its only saving grace as everything else is just a mess. If I had to choose a favorite episode or two it would be Goblin War!, The Hobgoblin, Framed, and The Man Without Fear. As for the worst episodes of the show, that is hard because there were so many, but The Return of Hydro Man, Rocket Racer, The Lizard King, and Partners are definitely up there. Actually, The Return of Hydroman are probably THE worst episodes of the series. The stock animation throughout the series was pretty awful and obvious. The animation itself is so cheap looking, choppy, poorly edited with a lot of unnecessarily long close up shots of character heads, broken line that look like the animators wanted the viewers to play "Connect the Dots," lip movements that didn't match up with the dialog, and outdated CGI. Now bad CGI can be ignored when a good narrative is involved (look at Beast Wars), but ultimately, this show is not the least bit spectacular to keep you distracted from. The music is cool at times, but it's like they stopped making new music for it after the first season and just reused the same music over. Oh, and did they really need to recap the same whiny tones at the beginning of every episode? Lastly, what was up with the Sinister Six being called the Insidious Six? Was the name Sinister trademarked? In the end, I give this show a 5/10. It's pretty average as far as a comic book show goes and the amount of villains used seemed to regress into the same few after a while. I love Scorpion as a much as the next guy, but why did it take 60 episodes to bring in Electro? Not to mention their treatment of him was down right insulting. What about the Enforcers? Or the Tinkerer? Beetle? Big Man? Carrion? Shriek? Rose? Well, that is pretty much it outside of finishing Ultimate Spider-Man's third season on Netflix unless I can find a site that is streaming Wolverine and the X-Men and Silver Surfer. |

From what I recall, the planned original ending to that show involved finding Mary Jane in Victorian England, where Carnage had become Jack the Ripper.
maybe it's for the best the show got canceled. If you want a QUALITY show, check out "The Spectacular Spider-Man." |

I still like the 90's Spider-Man TV show. Sure it can be very cheesy at times, but I still enjoy it. Censorship back in the 90's was different compare to now, so they are limited on they can get away with. I feel like Spider-Man Unlimited and The Avengers: United They Stand where the worst of the 90's Marvel animated shows in my opinion.
