Goseiger 5: So much to say.
A Hyde episode this week (is there a Jekyll in this show?), personally I felt that Agri shined more, also are all the Gosei Angels from the Landick Tribe so good looking? Stupid sexy Landick siblings... We finally see the debut of the first auxiliary mech, the Seaick brothers, it's basically a new hat and hands for Gosei Great, I find that stangely appealing. I also find it extremely convenient that the headders are dormant in earth but whatever, there is basically no effort involved in getting them but again whatever. The Genius cold is way too creepy and effective, they should have kept it for a later date, a disease transmitted by air that both harms humans and produces foot soldiers is overkill. One last thing I can't tell the Warstar apart, they have freakingly long and complex names, and really busy designs, Brad is cool though. Overall I liked it, it's a fun show so far. :) |
Oh, Algo, I feel your pain. Moune.. Agri.. There should be laws against Landick Angels that good looking.

I know it isn't true of all shows, as expressed here, but I find it really odd how much better quality a lot of older series are, than modern ones, I dunno whether it's codecs or what but like Century King's Black rips look a thousand times better than TVN's Den-O rips, which suffer from regular tearing, pixelating and distortion.
The same can be said for the Dairanger rips by some sub group I've never heard of, they are murky because of the limitations of both money and tech of the time, but in terms of the quality itself it's beautifully crystal clear, with a constant consistency to its framerate and it never starts to crack, or distort or whatever else. Compare that to like the TVN Shinkenger rips I had, that looked all washed out like they were a water colour painting or something, I just find it bizarre. Shows from like twenty years ago, looking better in terms of video quality than shows that came out like five years ago. |
The oldest series I've watched until now, either KR or SS was Den-O, so I can't really make an informed judgement on the quality of the old versus the new yet. These Battle Fever J episodes are pretty bad, though. I'm used to VHS tracking issues, but the loud audio pops are what really make this tough. It almost looks like it was subtitled in its original era. :D

and I like it a lot. im gona keep going but I want to finish go-busters. |
Dairanger 30.
I love how Kou has been in the show so little since his introduction, every time the show focuses on him again it thinks it needs to exposition dump what has happened to him so far. They would probably do the same for Kazu if he had even a semblance of a character arc, but he doesn't even have that. Also Kou's Mum is a terrible actress. So what was the point of the whole secret identity crap? He had one arc introducing him, vanished, then came back for an arc centred around everyone finding out his identity. And I know why he had a secret identity, storywise, but it seemed like a pointless device if his identity would be revealed in his second proper arc anyway. Kou's introductory arc was great, but everything else Kibaranger related has been a massive waste of time, or just plain ridiculous like the stupid Romeo and Juliet style backstory for his birth. Wow so Yellow Owl got the Lailai jewel, huh? It would have been pretty cool if he did become a new Dairanger, he'd be like the JDF of super sentai. Plus both owls and turtles are unique as far as I know. |
Oops, the last episode of Dairanger I watched was 29, THIS is episode 30.
This episode was such a mess, so much was happening and none of it really made a lick of sense. They built up the Hell hole thing over two episodes, but that came and went for the sake of the monster of the week instead. Plus, with how often the Dairanger's get their assess kicked, I didn't even really notice a jump up in the Gorma's power anyway. And with the way this show is paced, the Gorma always come across as much worse villains than they actually are. Still, any fight scene with the Warrior Dragon Star Lord is good with me, it's probably the best mech suit ever made, minus Ace in GoBusters. The bazooka was pretty cool as well, but why do they need it if they could already do that Spirit Bomb attack? Fuck me that cricked neck old inventor has only been back for an episode and he's already getting on my nerves. |

I've never seen any reason to translate names or proper nouns. RyuuseiOh sounds a hell of a lot better than the mess you mentioned Locke. It's the same complaint I had with OT translating the "Oh" in Go-BusterOh to "King". Rather pointless especially when there was an actual Go-Buster King Later. Names should just be left as names. Otherwise you get into the murky territory of ridiculous things like making Kyoryuzin the very silly "Dinosaur King" or Daibouken becomes "Great Adventurer". It just gets way out of hand and unnecessary.

Also both Dinosaur King and Great Adventurer sound rockin', it's just that Dairanger has such goofy names for everything that it sounds so silly when put in plain English. Star Lords, lol. |

I love overtime subs, but I'd prefer if they left the show titles alone "Voltasaur" and "Spec-Ops" don't ring with me to be honest. |

But why leave half of the stuff untranslated? If you want that, get TVNs rips.
|
Names of shows/teams, mecha, and characters should just not be translated in my opinion.
For example it wouldn't make any damn sense to translate something like GoGo Sentai Boukenger to "GoGo Team Adventurer". That just sounds awful. So rather than try to pick and choose things to translate and not, I'd just rather names weren't translated unnecessarily at all. Bouken/Adventure is the central theme of Boukenger, I don't need to be told things like that when I already know them or easily can know with out interrupting the flow of dialogue to translate it. Invoke Sentai Goseiger irks me in the same way, and Voltasaur is just completely made up. If anything Zyuuden means Electric beast. |

I'd still rather have the meaning of words translated for me, without knowing what words mean, the word becomes meaningless, literally. I watch translated subs, to understand what is going on, if I wanted it all left in Japanese I'd just watch a raw.
|
I'm not really fussed on team names eitherway since they're barely said in the show outside the roll call where Im never reading the subs. I just rename the file as soon as it downloads anyway :p I will agree "Invoke" is a bit of an odd one though.
Mecha names and nouns just bug the hell outta me though :lol At least with mkvs I can change all that myself I guess, even if it is effort (Note: I know this for a fact, I went through every single O-T file to change "King" to "Oh" and vice-versa :lol) |

Dairanger 31.
Fuck me Yellow Owl is annoying in this show... he is actually a super turtle? Fuuuck, how much drugs were consumed in the making of this show? I mean this is also the episode where someone is dragged from hell...with a fishing rod. And one of the Dairanger's gets a masked glued to his face, that his friends try and saw off, and instead get it off by...firing a bazooka in his face. Most of the time this show is just stupid, and makes me question why I watch it, but every now and then there is an episode so fucking insane you can't help but fall in love. Great Infinity looked pretty cool though, to be fair, apart from when it went Warrior Mode, that looked bare shit. Although still not quite as awful as the Heavily Armoured Qi Palace. |

Go-busters is the strange exception where I prefer "King" to "Oh" most of the Buster Machines have english names, so "Oh" feels kinda out of place. Quote:
