That was sarcasm btw. I think the comics are respectable enough, but the show does need to get a bit less... childish. I like the cheesy fun but it needs to have more serious moments and such. And better cinematography, both Dino Charge and Ninja Steel are absolutely awful on that front.

My point is that fans seem to care what other people who aren't fans outside of their fandom think about their respective franchise. If you're already a fan, then you kinda already respect the franchise enough that you'll stick around through thick and thin, or you'll leave and it might draw you back in.

Changing any formula could be good for the people who are already fans. If it brings any outsiders to the fandom it won't be a permanent thing. For example, the Transformer films brought people to the theater that weren't fans and they found them enjoyable*. After the movie, people leave waiting for the next film but they don't become "fans" like we are of a particular franchise.

I'm not saying it doesn't need work, but having this need for the franchise to be "respected" outside of their fandom isn't going to happen. They'll either have a brief nostalgia trip, or a summer flick fling (so to speak) that is just for fun.

I've seen people mention that the Shattered Grid stuff being on actual television would bring in new viewers and breathe life into the franchise. Both of those statements are probably true, but it won't be because of any sort of "respect" that was garnered, it will be because of nostalgia or curiosity.

I'm referring to older viewers and fans of course.

*I'm not here to debate the quality of the films, they did well enough from outsiders that they were able to keep going for five films, which is my only point here.

Waittaminute, since Hasbro owns them are they still going to retain that "Saban's Power Rangers" thing? I hope not.

Because, outsiders view Power Rangers as a joke. Some are even shy to admit they liked Power Rangers because people always view it as a joke. Hell, some of us hope this acquisition is a good idea because hopefully it will make PR a respectable brand.

Unless I'm wrong, those last three are on backburners. Mask is the only focus now, followed by Action Man. GI Joe seems to have got a new screenwriter but it's not yet happening.

The Transformers movie toys are still their #1 product line. The issue is the films are, you know, kinda shite and not what they envisioned when they licensed the rights to Steven Spielberg in the first place.

I'm a freelance brand consultant for Playmates, who are a Chinese/HK toy company that has the master license for various kids entertainment brands. They have no UK office so I act as a middleman between UK-specific licensees and retailers and their main HQs. I used to work on TMNT, then moved over to Voltron: Legendary Defender, and now I'm just squarely focused on launching my media marketing agency so don't really have time to do much. I consult for Toy Wiz every now and then. The brand licensing stuff I fell into accidentally with Bandai, where I held the UK license to Figuarts and supplied mostly DBZ merch to indie vendors and convention scene. I've become good friends with lots of people in the London/Brighton scene as a result.

I didn't say they were moving away from live action output. I'm saying they want to do their own films, including a CGI Transformers film produced in-house. And I think all of those films are on hold for now except MASK and Action Man.

Because they didn't plan on the buyout happening for a little while longer, so it was business as usual? I don't know and can't pretend to know. But you're wrong on how buyouts work, it's been announced now and it's from here on they work out logistics for all third parties to transfer/return rights, etc. That said, Hasbro has had IDW working on Power Rangers for a little while. Enough for us to begin seeing reboot timeline material from October. It's more than just the comics. What I was told at BLE 2017 was IDW writers are now involved in all storytelling for Hasbro, and their reboot will be the new timeline all the franchises follow.

Am I the only one who doesn't want to see Power Rangers mixed with Transformers and GI Joe? Ugh. If the acquisition gives us better Sentai adaptations and better toys, then cool. But if it gives us forced crossovers, no thanks.
