The Doctor though and his regen into 11th was handled brilliantly. They never really delved into what exactly happens when the Doctor has to regen, it just usually happens. To him, it would be like dying. He stops being him and becomes someone new. His name, his memories. But a different face, different personality, the Doctor as he was dies. So why would he be happy and smiling as he goes out? I think the line "I Don't Want To Go" Worked brilliantly for both the Doctor and Tennant. David said himself he didn't want to go, but he needed to go before it became a Job. Because he never wanted the Doctor to feel like a Job. I also enjoyed how much of a role Wilfred played. Of all the Tenth's allies, it felt like he was the closest to the Doctor. An Old Soldier, Wary of Taking Life, Reaching the End. And I'm glad they left alot to our imaginations. One thing I hate in shows like this is having everything spelled out for me. What fun is that? You get the implied notion that it was the Doctor's Mother from how David reacts to seeing her. And as for Rossilon, that was more an Easter Egg for Whovians who knew what role he played in the early days of the Doctor. And now the end. You have to remember in the movie "The Planet of the Dead" the old woman from the bus said "He Will Knock Four Times, and Then You Will Die". The Doctor, as many of us, took that to mean The Master. With the ever-present drumming haunting him. But having it be Wilf, having the Doctor give his life to save a man he'd be proud to call his father? Meant so much more. I even appreciated him going on a final goodbye tour. And now we're back to your problem with that goodbye tour. We'll start with Jack. The Doctor wanted to see his friends happy one last time before he 'died'. Yes, Jack did something horrible during Children of Earth. But I think that was his way of saying he could be forgiven. Mickey and her being together doesn't bother me either. And I loved seeing him say goodbye (in a roundabout way) to Rose. I loved End of Time, it's by far the best of the Tennant Specials. |

I think The Time Lords were Dicks explain alot of Tennants time as the Doctor :lol And much of Smith. It wasn't pandering. Tennant was an amazing Doctor. His tenor helped solidify the series back into the modern era, moreso than Eccleson. Alot of the new Whovians only know Tennant, so him leaving was a very big deal. They were basically taking a leap of faith they'd like the new guy. And she did serve a purpose. She helped guide Wilf where he needed to be, helped him get the revolver into the Doctor's hand right when he needed it most. Without her who knows what might've happened. I just don't see that Khan thing. I get what you mean, I just don't see it. And that's Jack, though. That's his personality. Look how he handled much of his personal problems in Torchwood. It was usually by bending Ianto over peices of equitment. Then sex seemed to be how the lot of them handled problems :lol And Mickey.. I think alot of it is you just don't like Mickey. Which I can see, I hated him to. But I also didn't like Martha much. |
Dude, I really liked Mickey :lol Like Rory he was one of the few companions I actually felt grew as a character

What happened to just normal men and women going on adventures with this crazy old man in a blue box? Now every companion has to be one of the X-Men and also has to dribble over his dick for the entire series. |
I agree, but sadly its something that's prevalent with the modern version of the series and isn't going to go away soon :(
If they won't do a proper alien companion again the least they could do is one that isn't from goddamn modern day Earth. |
I liked Amy in season 5 but by the end of her run she was grating. I like that they have more to do in the current series than historically. A lot of times in classic Dr Who the companions were about as useful as Shunpei in Wizard.

As much as John Hurt as the Doctor is perfect, I also loved him as a choice because it isn't another sexy Doctor pile of shit. The Doctor was never meant to be sexy, not conventionally anyway. I hate all this new emphasis on the Doctor being young and attractive with girls fawning around him, it makes him feel less special and more of a douchebag. The Doctor should feel like Gandalf not Legolas. |
SPOILER WARNING for The Name of the Doctor!

Seeing an older Doctor was a big part of my excitement as well. While I loved Matt Smith's "old guy in a young body" take, it would be really nice to have an older actor play the Doctor again. This may be the only time we can legitimately see one, as I don't think any mainstream incarnations of the Doctor in the future are going to be old-looking. |
Hasn't it already aired in the US? Therefore is no longer a spoiler?
I don't just mean old, but the Doctor is now this young, hip, sexy man in a box and it's just all wrong. The Doctor was never ugly or whatever but he wasn't ever conventionally sexy either. There was supposed to be this strange, mystery around him, this quirky alien feel, Eleven just looks like he should be stood in a Topman window. Don't get me wrong, I love Matt Smith as an actor, and Eleven is a great character but I just don't like the modern approach to the character visually. |

For me, I think Eleven does a decent job at playing a weird, eccentric spaceman despite his youthful appearance. I suppose that they tried to do more with it the way he dresses like the first three Doctors, but unfortunately (fortunately for the fangirls), he still looks great in a coat and bowtie. :lol I do feel that Eleven is the more alien of the three New Series Doctors, though. |

But yeah Ten was just as bad, I think Nine got off best in this regard, that is why a lot of the modern audience completely skip him and that fucking fills me with hatred. |
Quote:
Nine wasn't thaaaat chaste, remember the bits of dialogue he exchanged with Jack Harkness? |
Quote:
And that is true about Nine, but let's be honest, how can you not flirt with Jack Harkness? |
i just finished the season finale of doctor who and all i have to say is........ WHAT. THE. HELL. JUST. HAPPENED.

Here's an activity for you guys. Imagine BBC hired you as head writer, and you're to decide the characterizations and stories for a series featuring a new Doctor. Describe:
Apart from that, be creative. Describe what monsters you will include, any returning characters, what adventures he will embark on, where he will go, etc. You could even come up with new monster ideas if you feel extra creative. Let's hear your ideas! |

I just want the doctor to offer Jellie babies again like in old who

I've never really though about actors I'd like to see in the role (honestly I'm not all that attentive when it comes to TV actors) but judging on Rowan Atkinson's performance as the Doctor in "The Curse of Fatal Death" (yes I know it was a comedy episode, but it's still the best Who Moffat has ever written) that's the kind of character I'd like to see. Visually he played him like McGann, but I'm more referring to the kind person with a very snide sense of humour about him.
Companion-wise I'd like to see a larger group again, since it worked so well in "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship". 1 male and 1 female would work too, but I'd like to see them completely unrelated to each other and from different time periods. Episodes....whatever as long as there's no overarching plot. I'm done with those. I want a big Dalek episode done properly (get Nick Briggs to write it rather than just get him do the voices, he does BRILLIANT Dalek stories). Featuring the Dalek Time Controller is a must as he's the best thing to come out of the Daleks in years. |
Since I don't have a way of watching the old series', quick question. Had the time war had happened already, happened during those series, or in between 8 and 9?

It would never happen, but I would love to see John Nobel ( Walter Bishop on Fringe) as the doctor if they would ever have an older actor again. Not really going along with the game, just a thought I had.
|
John Nobel would be an excellent Doctor.
|
Seems everyone here wants an older Doctor. :D

I don't think anyone has an issue with John, its just who exactly John is playing people take issue with.

I want Ben Kingsley =p
Anyway, The Doctors Name was a decent episode. It was kind of paced weird though, like a lot happened but nothing happened at the same time. I also wish Jenny stayed dead. Harsh i know and I do really like the scooby gang, but it would have just added more weight to the episode. The twist/Hint at the end was very awesome though. Overall this half season has been very hit and miss for me, it was alright but nothing to get super excited about =) |
It's Doctor Who :lol No one stays dead.

Exactly. I thought they'd really upped the stakes, I sat watching it thinking 'oo this is gonna be good' then they conveniently revived her moments later. Could've at least revived her by the Doctor doing some clever timey wimey stuff, not just Strax with a remote control =p

And I've been thinkng about this episode and what they've established with events in past episodes. And none of it makes sense. It was said that No Man Can Tell a Lie, yet the Doctor seemed quite capable of not saying his name no matter how much TGI asked. The Silence were no where to be found and they were the damn ones trying to stop it from happening the first place. There was no mention about what reason either. They just left so much out. And another thing that's been bothering me is River. According to how the scene was set, this happened in her timeline after The Doctor saved her to the Library. So she's alread 'dead'. Yet that never happened in the episodes yet, and I was looking forward to that since they first teased it in Silence in the Library. I know he hates Goodbye's but come on.

It's not as confusing as it is plot holey. It just sort of leaves you feeling like you've missed something, at least thats how I felt.
Kind of like reading a Grant morrison graphic novel, just requires a few more watches/reads or a later issue/episode to make sense. |
