I finally saw The Wolverine - 10/10
Seriously, of the four films I've seen this year, all of which I've really enjoyed, this one takes it's place in second, right after Into Darkness. Loved it more than Origins (which I didn't hate at all), more than the original 3 X-Men films (all three of which I also very much appreciated). I think they made a great film, and I hope to see more like it. |
Even better than First Class?
|
Picked up Ed Wood from the bargain bin a couple days ago.
This is probably my favorite Tim Burton film, a cheerfully dour retrospective on the founder of "So Bad Its Horrible" filmmaking. Martin Landau's performance as fallen star Bela Lugosi is beautiful; his Oscar was well-deserved. "Visions are worth fighting for." :) |

Watched Equestria Girls. 7/10
Better than anticipated, should've had the friends drift apart naturally rather than rely on villainous interventions. Watched X-Men First Class. 7/10 ...Meh. |
Kick-Ass 2 was actually pretty good. If you liked the first one, you will most likely enjoy this one, just do not expect it to be as good. If you hated the first one, you definitely will not like this. I never read the comic, so I do not know how accurate it was to it, but I have been told not so much. The movie is quite violent, but then, that was to be expected since the first one was as well. Plus, the dialog is hilarious. Lastly, there is a scene after the credits, which was kind of a dumb, but still seems like it would be important if they ever do the third book. Overall, is it the greatest thing ever? HELL NO!! However, with all of the garbage that has come out this summer, you could do much worse.

I have always wanted to watch a Bruce Lee movie, any recommendations?

Watching Humancentipede. Now, either I've been desenstized to violence over the years like the news always said I would be.. or it wasn't that horrible. All I've heard is how I'll be disgusted, and it was the worst bit of gore anyone had ever seen, and on and on.. But seriously? It was more of a comedy than anything else.
Korean and Japanese horror movies have spoiled me for the rest of the world. They have. Once you watch Audition, Humancentipede does become a bit of a comedy misadventure. |
My problem with the Human Centipede wasn't the gore, but that it was a poor attempt at shock horror. It wasn't trying to be interesting or creative or even all that scary. It was just "I wonder if we can make the people with weak stomachs actually puke!? Wouldn't that be cool?"
Anyway, just watched Imaginaerum. T'was an interesting movie about a man suffering from dementia. |

Is that the one I'm thinking of, Heath Ledger's last movie? |

I guess my problem is that all my friends are big into horror movies, no matter how campy, cheesy, or foreign they are :lol No, that's not Imaginaerum. This is http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...rum_teaser.jpg |
Saw Alpha Papa this afternoon and it was okay, nothing special. It was very funny though, so I suppose the film served its purpose. Especially at the staff price of nothing.

I just got to see Escape from New York at the Alamo Drafthouse and wow, what a great movie that is. I somewhat enjoyed it on DVD last month, but getting to see it on the big screen with audio and video that did not look or sound like **** was amazing. In fact, between the Carpenter movies I have seen recently (Thing, Halloween, and Escape), I just realized how much he uses the score of the movie to build up the tension of the scenes. I noticed this in Thing many years ago, but I never actually thought about it until tonight. That is pretty damn awesome. Now I really must see some of his other movies like The Fog. Anyway, this movie is a bit dated due to things like the giant cell phone, but it does not take away from the great story being told. I think this is one I'll be buying on BD the next time it gets rereleased (which will hopefully be using whatever source the Alamo showing was from). I give this movie a 9/10

Staff screening tonight, Elysium, hell yeah!

Spent the day watching The Dark Knight Trilogy and what an awesome trilogy it is. It starts off with a nice origin story and a great beginning to the series and gives a nice look at the persona of Bruce Wayne and Batman. Then comes The Dark Knight, which is without a doubt The Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy as the movie is just pure perfection. There is not a single moment in this movie that lets you down and the tension just continues to build throughout the entire moment. Not to mention we get to see more of what Gotham is like now that Batman is around, along with a great cast of characters with Joker, Harvey, and Gordon. Plus, it redefined what it means to be a truly great super hero movie. And then it all comes down to a nice, but somewhat weak, finale with Rises. Rises is a great ending, but it does have its moments of disappointment or confusion. Nevertheless, the ending itself was is very satisfying even if the characters in the movie were not as strong as those found in the previous two entries. Overall, this trilogy belongs right up there with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings as one of the best movie trilogies ever.
Individually, I give Begins a 9/10, Dark Knight a 10/10, and Rises an 8/10, but as a trilogy, I give the whole thing a 9.5/10. We will never get Batman movies like this again, especially ones that ripped scenes directly out of a various amount of comics and gave us near perfect movies because of it. Not to mention the amount of originality Nolan and gang put into it to make it their own version of Batman. |

I actually never felt the Dark Knight Trilogy was all that strong, but that's just me. It took itself too seriously so I could never believe that they were the characters, they all felt like actors going through the motions.

And I was mad at the pronunciation for Ra's as well at first, but after about 10 viewings of the movie, I gave up caring. FInally, the seriousness is what makes them great. Batman is supposed to be serious. If you want something not as serious, that is what Superman is for. |
It breaks the scene when a man in an ugly costume walks in and I'm supposed to take that seriously.
I'm fine with the Batman films being grounded in realism. That was fine. But it took itself too seriously, despite the fact that the very premise is something that isn't. Batman is dark, but he is nowhere near serious, and I feel that attempts to make the character "Serious" backfires and makes him feel more ridiculous as a result. |
Everyone mispronounces Ra's Al Ghul, anyway (you need an Arabically conditioned tongue to pronounce it correctly), so it never bothered me.

Watched Elysium. It was okay... the film was overlong and lacked focus, managing to take everything that didn't work about District 9 with very little that did. Sharlto Copley's Agent Kruger was awesome and there were some fun action sequences (although nothing as cool as the mech fight or the lightning gun) but the action was self contained and far between, with the long gaps between the action stuffed with pretentious irony. Look at my social critique, that I spent $200 million on! I could have used this money to help make the world a better place, but CGI!

Just rewatched both Hellboy movies, I still think the first one is better.

And yeah I would love 3rd one. |
Agreed with the previous comments. I think Golden Army is a great movie - I think Prince Nuada was fantastic, but the first is still a better movie.
Why no HB3 yet? :cry |
Yeah, I'll hop on the "Hellboy 1 is better" bandwagon.
But I adored the designs of some of the monsters in 2 a lot more. |
I love the Golden Army itself, thought they were really cool, plus the Tooth Fairies were creepy as hell, and I already mentioned Nuada, Wink was neat as well.
