So I watched the first episode of 80 last night, just because it's available now. I liked it. The show has a very different feel compared to the other Ultra shows I've seen, with the main focus being on the school and the main character's role as a teacher. I liked that, though, as it gave a good alternative to the usual set-up that we normally see in these shows. The only things that didn't work for me that much were the music (the theme song sounds like it belongs on a 70s sitcom or something) and the 80 suit (mostly the helmet - I've never liked the red crest). I'm not going to continue it now, but I'll definitely come back around to it in the near future.

The role of the teacher sounds interesting. While I'm not sure what I think of the suit design yet, I might check it out in the future.

I watched and enjoyed the first episode of Ultraman 80. I like that Takeshi seemingly has a double secret identity. I'm still not a fan of the 80 costume though.

I can't wait to watch the final episode just because of it's name.

I finally finished Max last night. I'm a little sad now that there are no more episodes to look forward to (although I suppose I could try to find HK subs of the clipshow, but meh). It definitely ranks as my favorite Ultra series; I loved the cast, loved the suits, and loved all the stories. I'm really going to miss it (although I totally plan on making Elly's Christmas an annual tradition).

I'm not 100% sure where I'll go next; pick up Leo or go back to Tiga. Probably the former, since streaming Crunchyroll on my tablet is more fun and convenient than watching Tiga on my laptop. Either way, I am definitely on a big Ultra kick right now and fully intend to continue it.

Heard great things about Max, definitely the next one I'll be catching.

So unlike nexus I got hooked on mebius and I am really liking it.

Nexus isn't an easy show to get into. You really have to have a high tolerance for the kind of storytelling that you saw a lot of in early Heisei Kamen Rider. Nexus is pretty much the Ultraman version of Faiz.

So yeah... Ultraman Leo's third episode starts with a couple kids seeing their dad get graphically cut in half by an alien. You even see his severed torso in the background of a couple shots, bloody stump and all. :eek:

This is going to be a different kind of kid's show.

What was Leo's Ultra Beam???

I'm not sure. So far Leo is just a brawler. As I understand it, he doesn't start using beams until later in the series.

I don't mean his finisher alongside his twin brother.

No, at this point he just uses his fists and feet. No attacks that aren't martial art-based.

I have recently read the manga spinoff sequel ULTRAMAN where Hayata's son is a Ultraman but not the one we are familiar with from the source material. Specifically the ultras in this comic are powered suits but some reason it works really well. Also it is created by the folks who brought us Linebarrel so check it out if possible. so far up to volume 5 is out and even Sakamoto has said good things about it too it seems.

I really like 80's first theme song, but I think that's because the cheesiness of it strikes a chord with me. Although, I'm of the opinion that it sounds 100% better played by an orchestra. With that said, the score outside of the openings and endings is good without being too dated IMO.

80's suit...yeah. I got used to it eventually, but it looks a bit flimsy and the red coloring of his head doesn't match the red on the body.

Ultraman 80's design is one of my favourites because of its uniqueness. The show itself is enjoyable and the music is decent.

I think it's more the material of the costume than the design itself that I have a problem with.

Anyhow, I agree that the show and music are good.

Need to find the thirteenth episode of Gaia. The video on YouTube is nearly an hour long and seems to be the kind of video that shows all of an episode and then reshows.

Anyone who's seen Ultraseven: was Dan a complete dick on that show, too, or is that just a Leo thing? It seems like every episode so far he finds an excuse to just be a total jerk to Gen.

Dan was pretty easy going in Ultraseven as far as I remember. I haven't gotten around to watching Leo yet so I can't really compare.

Dan is much more of a cool guy in Ultraseven. The embittered bully you see in Ultraman Leo seems like an entirely different person in comparison.

I'm up to episode 16 of Leo and I just want to point out that the second opening theme is garbage.

Yeah it definitely doesn't kick as much ass as the first theme.

I recently started watching Nexus. I don't get why there were so few monsters.

Finished Ultraman Max today, after getting round to all the goodies on Crunchyroll. Trying to decide what to start next.

Mebius is an anniversary season, right? So would it make more sense for me to just watch Leo and 80 beforehand? I've watched anniversary seasons of Toku really early before (Gokaiger was my second-ever Sentai), and it didn't harm my enjoyment of whatever I watched after too much (bar some spoilers). I'll see what I think about this tomorrow.

Ultraman Leo has always been one of my favorite Ultra series. Certainly in my top three if not in the number two position behind Ultra Seven.

Try Cosmos, Gaia or Nexus.

Watch the first episodes of all three and then continue whichever one appeals to you most.

I watched episode 1 of Leo and thought it was pretty cool, I'll take your advice and checkout the first episodes of 80 and Mebuis as well before I decide. I do wanna see more Leo though, so I might just get stuck into that.

I've been watching Nexus too and enjoying it. Since I'm new to UltraMan, I was wondering what things are UltraMan Zero in? He really interests me.

He is the son of Ultra Seven! That makes him Ace & Taro's second-cousin & Ultra Mother's great nephew. He was trained by Ultraman Leo. We think his mother was a Blue Ultra considering his color scheme.

Zero appears mostly in movies, starting with the Mega Monster Battles film, then Belial's Revenge, and the one that I don't remember the name of. I think he's been in a web show, too.

Ultraman Saga where he merged with Cosmos & Dyna. He's gonna appear in the Ginga Movie due out in March.
