This show made me sad about Red King of all things, noooo! This sucks! (This is great)
I too was expecting an episode all about showing off King Joe STORAGE Custom (and it looks like that might still happen next week, alongside other fun stuff), and what I got here was unexpectedly great. I had a sneaking feeling at the back of my mind that all of our heroes excited declarations for exterminating monsters would be challenged one day, and this episode does so in an exceptionally heartrending fashion... Really hope they continue this epiphany Haruki has into the next episode! |
I haven't seen any other Ultra series, so I don't know how far they go into the ethical questions of killing monsters. But I'd love to see Z explore that, especially since they unknowingly have an alien/monster on their team.

I was initially going to be a lot harder on the episode because the King Joe debut was kinda meh, but the emotional dilemma of Haruki is pretty great, and I really like that it continues into the next episode. Plus, we haven’t seen everything the new King Joe can do yet either.
My only nitpick with this episode, which can be applied to the show in general: Z communicates way too little with Haruki. Early on we had these nice little scenes were Z would pull Haruki to the side to talk to him, and we don't really need more of that but instead simple voiceovers, Z can talk to Haruki in his mind, let him do that more often! Like, this episode would’ve been so much richer if they just framed the flashbacks with Z being like "Wow Haruki, I never knew about your family, what was your dad like?“. If I'm right there will be a "talk" of sorts next episode because Z will try to get to the bottom of Haruki's feelings but just saying, I would find this a lot more "natural" if Z spoke a bit more often. |
I too was thinking that Z has barely been a character in the show. Just like a lot of character stuff relating to the Titus and Fuma in Taiga, Z mostly shows his personality in side material.
I never expected the three Ultras in Taiga to be as prominent as say, the Imagin in Den-O, but I think they were still far too understated. I can't help but feel like the same is gonna happen with Z in this show ostensibly named after him. |
Someone discovered something interesting.
If you use the “attack” combos with Riku’s Access Card, you get clips of HIM announcing the attacks. https://youtu.be/y4eD5JIGpjI |
That’s just incredibly cool! There’s so much packed into this thing...
Is there a video of all the Geed stuff in the Z-Riser? Or most of the ones discovered so far, at least |

I haven't said much over the last few weeks, but I've been having a good time with Z! King Joe best robot. But yeah, it's weird how, in a series called Ultraman Z, where he's supposedly his own character, Z doesn't do much other than tell Haruki Ultraman facts he doesn't remember.

This week on Ultraman Z, wounds leave scars. Not exactly what I expected from this show, but I ain't complaining. |
What a nice episode this week, and I'm glad to see that Haruki's little issue isn't going away anytime soon. To the point where I think we'll be seeing this possibly stick around until Delta Rize Claw shows up.
This episode was pretty good for Yoko, she gets some good dialogue and finally gets a real big win via King Joe. Even if said win is well a bit questionable.... I mean to be honest, the whole stuff regarding the Allied Forces and Grigio Raiden is also very questionable. So much so that toy listing leaks that reveal other stuff leave me concerned at certain things that will transpire. Cause while STORAGE itself usually has good intentions behind their counterattacks, the Allied Forces they work under... well they're a bit shadier now. |
This episode was excellent. I was very much questioning Haruki’s moral compass ever since he coined himself a "Professional Monster Exterminator" so I'm glad that this dilemma of his isn't a fluke but instead takes multiple episodes to overcome.
And yes, the authority behind the research of Grigio Raiden seems questionable at best. Very interesting indeed. My only issue continues from last week's episode - Z himself is way too silent during all of this. At least dub in three sentences or something, it's like he doesn’t exist at all when they really could use him better to develop Haruki as a character. There seems to be a talk coming up next week but this could’ve been handled better IMO. |
Oh hey, even more medals! Gashapon exclusives this time though.
Featuring Ultraman Zearth, Ultraman Nice, Ultrawoman Grigio, Greeza, Sevenger, Windom and King Joe STORAGE Custom. I love how the angle of the image is changed for Sevenger and King Joe because a side profile clearly won’t work for them :lol https://i.imgur.com/ucTMdv9.jpg |
There goes my second theory of Z’s movie form! Man, I’ve got no idea at this point...
Still, Zearth and Nice! Holy hell yes!! Now I just need them to make an Ultraboy to complete the greatest Ultra trinity around |
Man, it feels good to be caught up on this show again.
I'm really enjoying this story arc with Haruki questioning what he's doing. End of the day, he is killing all of these creatures and that's not something everyone would be able to do without having some moral concerns. Between this and the early "wait, how does the henshin device work" scenes, it feels like the show is going for more of a deconstruction of how a standard, hot-blooded, "YOSH!" shouting protagonist should work. It's a good, subtle deconstruction, too; another show could easily overcompensate and give us a much more obnoxious or ineffective character. I like that the show is going this complex with its hero. I know that this episode was at least 33% toy commercial for the DX King Joe, but man am I happy to see an Ultraman show with some flashy vehicles again. My first Ultra series was Nexus and I really loved the multi-combination jet/tank from that show. A lot of the other, older shows had similar forms of unique vehicles and it's something that we haven't seen in a long time. Even if it's based off of a kaiju, it's still great to see a return of the awesome support vehicle. Also, Yoko's leg-jettisoning finisher was totally badass. So cool to see her upstage Z for a change. |
Just saw this tonight. Couldn't yesterday cause I drove an hour and 45 minutes (at least) to another city that actually does have a legitimate comic book store to try and obtain the first issue of Marvel's Ultraman...to no avail!
As for the episode itself, it wasn't anything more spectacular than other episodes save for Haruki's inner crisis. Seeing King Joe get so much love isn't surprising, but it had its moments and unlike a standard Ultraman or Sentai Robo, King Joe doesn't get what one would call a standard stock footage finisher. I'm worried that once Haruki and Zett get a new form, King Joe will get even less focus. I'm honestly not familiar with this Kaiju, but having a giant cannon adds to its unique appearance. Having a bunch of (toy) cars and garbage on set as "monster food" was a nice decorating touch. Dining on Windom was a little unexpected. Seeing Zett in his "basic" form while still giant helped show the uniqueness of Zett and the series as a whole. I now suspect Zett and Haruki will meet X and Cosmos and this inner crisis will come around again even if Haruki finds some sense of inner peace in the series proper! Next week...Kanegon hungry! |

I think STORAGE will be needing an additional pilot in the future. It would be a shame if any of the robots end up in mothballs in future episodes.

The original, Grigio Bone, was meant as an assistant to the original Rosso and Blu from O-50. After they died, the monster crystal ended up in the hands of Aizen Corp, who evolved it into Grigio King and Grigio Regina (where Raiden fits into that evolution, I don’t know). Eventually, the new Rosso and Blu’s sister got her hands on the Regina Crystal and used it to evolve the power into Ultrawoman Grigio (note: despite being spelt the same in English, the monster is pronounced “gru-geo”, while the Ultra is “gree-joe”. |

I want those Robot Ultra Medals!
I really need an SHF of Sevenger too! |
so I'm looking at picking up the Ultra Medal Set 04. https://tokullectibles.com/products/...4f824ca1&_ss=r
What does it mean with the Normal and Rare type? It also says 8 but shows 7, that means one hasn't been revealed yet? |
|
I remember how I used to think that all the filming of these New-Gen Ultraman shows is done before the first episode goes live. Anyway, looking forward to whatever exciting performances await in the latter half of the show!
|
How many episodes is it supposed to be?!
|
I believe it's confirmed to be 25?
But yeah Ultraman is usually pretty good with filming super ahead, it's why they were barely affected by the whole virus situation. |

This week on Ultraman Z, Haruki makes a friend in what's ~probably~ the best New Generation clip show yet? |

Because yep, this is our standard clipshow and I just loved the framing of it all. Also that little heart to heart moment at the end with Haruki and Z was just great. Next week has me really excited though, my boy Bullton is back and it's looking to be just as amazing as the original 66' debut! |
You guys liked the DX King Joe STORAGE Custom, right? And everyone adores Sevenger, correct?
Well, hold on to your butts because they're making a DX Sevenger with lights and sounds next. https://toy.bandai.co.jp/series/ultr...s/detail/1665/ https://i.imgur.com/mUMZQtl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3Xecbjh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zGaUHFn.jpg |
I hope Sevenger scales with the upcoming SHF Alpha Edge.
|
It’s made to scale with DX King Joe
|
I want to recreate the scene of Z, Sevenger and Windom running in the intro.

So I watched this week’s episode now and... why exactly is there another clipshow? Wasn't the last one like 3 weeks ago? I mean its 2020 so that shouldn’t be surprising but - I'm really not happy with this episode.
On one hand, it's a great clipshow episode. Lots of fun scenes to guide you through it all. But the thing is - we already had a rather terrible clipshow which now feels like even more of a waste than it was in the first place, and they also try to resolve Haruki's personal conflict during all of this which I’m not a huge fan of. I really don’t know why they chose to do this, I would’ve done the clipshow earlier and replace the first one and put Haruki's development front and center with an episode entirely dedicated to it. It kinda sucks and puts a small dent into this show for me; this was massively wasted potential for something truly great here. Quote:

Also, this week on the audio drama, Zero and Z discuss what their dream fusion forms are. They’re “coincidentally” the exact materials required for their video game exclusive forms (Zero would like Ultraman, Ace and Seven, while Z would like Zoffy, Mebius and Tiga).
|
Haruki and Kanegon's back-and-forth about Beta Smash was totally a Redman reference, right?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntmv-qzZs0k I wasn't expecting a clip show, especially since we got one a few weeks ago. Well, it wasn't quite a "clip show" but whatever. It was a funny episode at least. I like that Yoko has a photo of Z in her locker. |
Quote:
With (probable) references like these, it makes you wonder if a "Live-Action Redman Revival" is in the works cause there isn't much reason to reference that guy (unless someone at Tsuburaya REALLY likes the old Redman material)! |

The prior clipshow was literally just to fill time and give them a week off, since I'm assuming Covid likely pushed back filming so it was likely last minute. Given well, that prior clipshow has no episode number, so we literally lost nothing with it. This one is the proper one with actual setup and bits inbetween like we're used to. |
